INTRODUCTION
The date is October 31st 1981. What was originally the young Potters home now lay in rubble, in the distance the sound of a crying baby could be heard. It's late and no one is around but the awful sound of the explosion had woken people and lights began to click on, curtains stirring. In the distance there is a faint roaring sound, almost nothing. There is the sound of crushed rubble and a large figure makes its way through the rubble, a large body, almost 8 foot tall, long brown messy hair, large hands. It is Ruby Hagrid, searching frantically, following the noise of crying. Rubble moves out of the way in front of her, seemingly on its own as all that the large woman held was a pink umbrella. Hagrid hurries as she hears the roaring getting closer, as it gets closer it is more clearly a motorbike engine, though by the volume of the roar it seemed as though the motorbike would be the size of a small plane.
Hagrid stops suddenly and reaches down. When she stands straight again there is an infant in her arms. She holds back tears; this baby belonged to Lily and James Potter, now deceased. Her name is Harriet Potter, her hair is black, though coated with dust, and her eyes Green like her mothers had been. Hagrid sobs slightly and spots a mark on Harriet's forehead, a cut shaped like a lightning bolt. The roaring sound suddenly peaks and then shuts off. Hagrid knows who it is and she knows that Sirius Black would definitely want to keep Harriet, the offspring of his two close friends but her instructions from Dumbledore were clear, take Harriet to her last living relatives in Privet Drive. She turns around to make her way back through the rubble and jumps.
Sirius black stood behind her, almost 2 feet shorter than her but intimidating all the same.
"Let me take her, it's what they would have wanted." He pleads, he is clearly crushed by the death of his friends, and he feels that this is his fault.
Hagrid hesitates, considering what the right thing to do would be but she trusted Dumbledore and if he decided that Harriet would be best left with her relatives than that's what should be done. She tried to walk around Sirius:
"I have clear orders from Dumbledore, I'm sorry."
Sirius was conflicted, he wanted Harriet to be safe and Dumbledore would definitely know how to do that but at the same time he had met these relatives once before and had heard about them from James and they sounded awfully boring and horrible. Harriet would have a much more loving home from him; James wouldn't have wanted her to live with Lily's awful sister.
"Please Hagrid, these relatives are awful, she would have a poor childhood, I can give her what she needs." Sirius begged, Harriet had noticed him now and started reaching out to his familiar face. Looking at her made Sirius' heart hurt, she had lost her parents and he had lost his best friend.
Hagrid froze suddenly and turned around to face Sirius, she was very troubled, on the one hand she had orders from Dumbledore but on the other hand she wanted this tiny infant to be with someone who would appreciate her. She thought for a moment then sighed.
"If you stunned me and took her I wouldn't be able to stop you." She said quietly. Something stirred in Sirius' eyes and he pulled out his wand.
"Thank you Ruby." He whispered "sorry"
Hagrid saw a bright flash of light and there was a thud as she fell to the floor though a cushioning charm that she hadn't conjured seemed to catch her fall. When her mind refocused she realised that her arms were empty and she heard the roar of the motorbike. She smiled to herself; sure she had done the right thing. Though she frowned slightly as she turned back towards the street to catch the knight bus, she felt guilty when she thought of Dumbledore who she respected and who had done so much for her.
"Welcome aboard the knight bus."
