Chapter One: First Player Set

Throwing his hands in the air, Makoto quietly whispered, "Yes." He had won his fifth match on Chaotic online. After spending a week improving his OverWorld deck with the cards he possessed, he'd been on quite the winning streak. Chaotic was a trading card game that could be played online. It was first released in America but after gaining more popularity the game spread to other countries. Purchasing a starter pack out of curiosity, Makoto quickly became hooked.

Makoto was about to close out when he received a notification from . The message only had random numbers and letters like the codes found on the Chaotic cards. Makoto sat down on his chair pondering what to do. Should he enter the code? It seemed risky, especially since there wasn't anything else written on the message. Makoto quickly opened the Chaotic Discussion Board and typed.

"I got a message claiming to be with a code attached to it. Has one got a message like this before?"

In a few minutes someone responded.

MajorTom: I got a message like that a few months back. It's not a scam but very hard to explain, it's something you have to see for yourself.

MNaegi23: What should I be expecting?

MajorTom: Your scanner won't work for a while. Don't worry it's not broken so don't throw it away; the scanner is going to be used for something fun. It's something you have to see for yourself.

MNaegi23: Anything else I should be concerned about?

MajorTom: Wear pants.

MajorTom logged out before Makoto could ask further questions. He was more concerned now, especially about the part about wearing pants. Taking a deep breath he grabbed his scanner, put in the code, and pushed "Enter." A tunnel of coding engulfed Makoto causing him to jerk back as he was cared though. Next thing he knew Makoto found himself in a chrome colored building with people around his age sitting, chatting, eating fast food while watching creatures that are the same as the creatures in the Chaotic cards. Regaining his composer, taking a deep breath and calming down he took another look around, "Where am I?"

"Well that's a calmer response than most."

Makoto jumped, turning around and seeing a flying robot. He shook his head, absorbing everything right now. He understood why MajorTom left things so vague; he wouldn't believe it.

"Well, time for introductions. Welcome to Chaotic, MNaegi23," The robot greeted. "Your first match will be started soon. Head to the Chirrul Drome and you'll figure things out from there."

Before any more questions could be asked the robot floated away. Makoto groaned, wanting to learn more about this place. Taking one last look around before trying to find where Chirrul Drome was, he didn't have too many options. He smiled; one of his classmates would love this place. Looking at his scanner, it had directions on where the Drome was at. Staring at the entrance, Makoto took his first steps and got ready for anything. Inside the Drome was dark, with the Chaotic insignia floating on the side.

"MNaegi23, please step forward and doc your scanner," the insignia instructed.

On the other end was another individual with blonde hair and wearing a red jacket standing behind a stool. He was holding his red colored scanner.

"FireKing, please step forward and dock your scanner," the insignia repeated.

"Hi, new here?" He asked.

"Yeah how did you know?"

"You only have your socks on."

Makoto looked down and indeed he only had his pure white socks covering his feet.

"I was in my room," Makoto grimaced.

"Don't worry about it! Believe me, I've seen more embarrassing stuff."

Thinking back to the brief conversation he had online with MajorTom he wondered if the former entered Chaotic without pants.

"This will be a one-on-one match. Players select your creatures and make your decks," the Chaotic insignia announced. FireKing tapped his scanner and a large digital screen popped in front of him scrolling what he assumed was Chaotic cards. Makoto repeated what his opponent did, tapping on his scanner and seeing the screen pop up in front of him. 'If this is going to be one on one match it would be best if I pick a creature what came with a Mugic counter and a decent ability.' Makoto began thinking of his strategy. Shifting through his creatures he spotted Tangath Toborn, a humanoid lion that was one of the OverWorld's best Creatures and warriors. He was Makoto's second favorite creature; when battling online, Tangath helped him in several pinches. 'Tangath may have low energy, but he possesses two elements: Earth and Fire. And he can heal himself by sacrificing a Mugic counter. For battle gear it has to be the Sword of Khy'at, the signature weapon of Tangath. It gives a creature an added energy and speed boost and adds more damage to attacks from Warriors like Tangath. Tangath need to hit hard before he loses all his energy. Last but not least, Mugic. If I have to pick one Fortissimo would be one of my better options: able to heal and increase the creature's stats.' Smiling, Makoto finished the rest of his selection and docked his deck. Both players saw their respective board. Makoto saw his opponent was using Barath Beyond. Makoto started to get nervous as Barath Beyond is a dangerous and rare creature, skilled with fire attacks like Tangath is.

"MNaegi23, since this is your first Chaotic match, you will select the first location," the announcer declared.

Spinning the location randomizer, it landed on the Forest of Life. With only one option Makoto selected his target. "Tangath Toborn attacks Barath Beyond."

The display screens disappeared and code formed around both players. Makoto's hand became claws as fur covered his body. Once everything was done, he looked like Tangath Toborn. His foe FireKing transformed into Barath Beyond and looked at him with a smirk, showing the creatures fangs ready to rip into the newbie. "Let's get Chaotic!" Barath shouted.

A flash engulfed the Drome and Makoto found himself in a forest that resembled the artwork from his location card. One thing after another Makoto was having a hard time absorbing everything that happened in the last few minutes. With nothing else to do Makoto once again took a deep breath and walked forward. An odd sense of nostalgia came to Makoto, he'd never been to this place before yet was able to recognize the different paths. Crouching down he leaped onto one of the trees. Clutching onto one the branches, he lifted himself onto it and observed. He felt ready to fight, planning and thinking; he felt like Tangath Toborn. The excitement didn't last, however. His nose caught a heavy scent: smoke. Turning to the direction of the smell his eyes widened, a wildfire was spreading right towards him. Leaping off the branch and slamming to the ground he got up as quick as he could and ran. He needed to get away. breathing becoming more frantic looking back seeing Barath emerging from the fire.

"You can't win if you just run! Ember Swarm!" Barath shouted, unleashing a swarm of bullet-like embers which hit Makoto right in the back. He tumbled, rolling on the ground. Groaning as he stood up Makoto felt something. He could tell how much energy he lost. He started off with 40, but now it was around 25. Looking at his foe Makoto roared and summoned his sword.

"Rock Wave!" he shouted as he stabbed the ground. This unleashed a wave of sharp stones from the earth, slamming into FireKing and sending him flying back. Makoto was stunned; he never was that aggressive. Something inside the new Chaotic player was screaming to fight. He was confused but this was no time to panic, he needed to work through the confusion and find a solution. Once again, this sensation was guiding him. He embraced it and ran off again. Barath got up and started to pursue the fleeing lion.

'I have to admit it's rare to see a Chaotic player get in tune with their creature so quickly,' FireKing thought, but he knew how this version of the game works. He played in this location and knew where to go. Taking a detour around the trees that weren't on fire yet, he planned on surprising his foe and hopefully finishing him off. Quickly catching up, he spotted Tangath looking around and trying to figure out where to go. Victory was in sight, smiling as he readied his final attack. Suddenly, one of the burning trees started to fall towards him. He got out of the way before the tree hit him. Tangath's ear twitched. Turning around and spotting his would-be attacker, he scrammed. FireKing groaned and cursed his luck as he continued the chase.

The two reached into a clearing from the forest before they stared down each other.

"Nowhere to run," Barath declared.

"I wasn't running, just finding a clearing! Fortissimo!" Makoto shouted, activating his Mugic. As seven musical notes played, a column of yellow light surrounded the OverWorlder and filled him with power. The lion warrior grew in size, towering over the UnderWorlder. Barath Beyond stepped back; he didn't expect this. Makoto looked at his new gigantic height and smiled. Summoning the Sword of Khy'at and pointing it at Barath, he unleashed one last attack. "Lavalanche!" shouted Makoto as a torrent of lava spewed from the tip of his sword. Barath Beyond tried to flee but the stream of lava struck him as he burst into code. Light engulfed the area and Makoto found himself back in the Battle Drome, still as Tangath Toborn.

"The victor is MNaegi23," the announcer declared.

Code started to surround Makoto as he went back into being himself again.

"Wow, that was incredible!" FireKing praised, walking to Makoto and offering him a hand. "Good game and congrats on your first win."

"Thanks. In all honestly, I was really nervous," Makoto admitted, accepting the handshake.

"Trust me, that's normal. I'll see you around and good luck in your future matches. I'm meeting some friends for a scan quest." FireKing waved as he headed out of the Drome. Makoto waved back as he headed on his way. He got back to the main lobby when the realization came to him. He forgot to ask how to get back home! Makoto began to panic, how was he going to explain this to everyone?

"Lost?"

Makoto jumped a little. He turned around and saw a man a bit older than him with blonde hair, a matching goatee, and pink shaded glasses.

"Name's Klay, I've got to say you did better than most newbies. Let me guess, you don't know how get back home?"

"Yeah," Makoto admitted.

"Those robots just throw you in the middle of things without explaining a thing! It drives newcomers nuts," Klay continued.

"Sadly, I'm used to that." Makoto chuckled.

"That explains why you did so well," Klay praised, "Well let's get back to the main topic, you can get back home with your scanner." Klay gestured for Makoto's scanner. Looking at the scanner, he did need to get home. Trusting Klay, Makoto passed his scanner to him. Tinkering with the scanner Klay handed it back to Makoto. 'This scanner acts as a key to get between home and Chaotic. You just have to stand at the transport to get back home." It made sense since Makoto first entered Chaotic through the transport.

"Thanks Klay, I'll see you around. Maybe you can give me some pointers." Makoto smiled, waving goodbye as Klay smirked.

"Wait."

Makoto looked and saw a kid looking around his age with style with a grey shirt with blue sleeves. Klay growled. "Mind your own business, MajorTom."

MajorTom? That was the Chaotic player Makoto talked to earlier. Tom walked towards Makoto, all the while glaring angrily at Klay. "Klay was planning on transporting you somewhere dangerous and hoped you would never come back. He did the same trick when I first came to Chaotic," Tom explained.

Makoto was taken aback by this. Somewhere dangerous? Was Klay planning on killing him? Klay just scoffed, placing his hands in his trench coat pockets and walked off. Tom kept an eye on him until he was clearly out of their sight.

"Thanks, MajorTom. Again, I really appreciate it," Makoto said offering MajorTom a hand.

"No problem! And you can just call me Tom. You did amazing on your first match." Tom accepted Makoto's handshake.

"Thanks! My name is Makoto."

"Well Makoto, welcome to Chaotic."

Notes: Inspired by draconichero21 "Dueling Trigger Finger" Starpion and I are working on our own crossover with the cast of Danganronpa and Chaotic. We got this idea after we learned we both are interested in Chaotic after watching episodes on Youtube. After a few weeks of discussing we got the notes for the first few chapters down. Stay tuned for more.
