Santana had been humming a different song lately. And not like Rachel who refused to let a moment go by without her melodious voice belting out some Broadway tune. More like people were surprised to hear her emit a sound other than a growl out of her windpipes.
"Hey San!"
Santana nodded, and didn't speak until she was done humming.
Brittany's face scrunched up in confusion, "I feel like I know that song."
Santana laughed jovially (the nearest people around to witness this felt their brains turn to mush) "I bet you do know it, Britt."
"What is it?"
Santana poked her shoulder teasingly, "You'll just have to figure it out."
Brittany groaned and Santana just got up and left her to her misery.
Brittany tried hard all day to figure it out but turned up with nothing. The worst part was now the tune was stuck in her head so she couldn't just forget about it. "Damn Santana," she muttered.
She marched into Glee club and took a seat in the front row, denying Santana to bask in the glory of winning her little game.
As more people filed in Brittany could still hear the song ringing in her head and banged on her forehead a couple times to make it stop. People just gave her that weird look they always did and didn't question why.
After she realized it would never go away she then figured out that it wasn't playing in her head, she could hear Santana humming it again in the back row.
She's torturing me on purpose! Brittany thought spitefully. She prepared to shoot the most menacing glare at Santana when she saw the glazed look in her friend's eyes. She was completely unaware of everything around her and she was humming louder and louder.
Quinn, who had been slouching in her chair across the room heard the familiar tune. She was surprised to see that Santana was the one humming it but it couldn't hurt to sing along.
"…and I can't stand it," the blonde girl let out softly, "and you-ooh. You got me where you want me, cause I'l do-ooh anything to please you…"
Quinn continued to sing along with the low rhythm of Santana's humming when there was a light tapping heard from the front row. Finn, though on any other day would be embarrassed to admit he knew this song, got caught up in the Glee moment and began tapping out the drum beat on his lap.
Tina and Mercedes smiled and started snapping along with the beat. Sam picked up his guitar and began strumming along while Puck looked on at them with disgusted faces.
Rachel and Kurt, obviously unwanted in the song which was in a genre such a far cry away from their usual, simply provided their services by swaying simultaneously in the background. Mike slowly shuffled into a fitting freestyle with the cute, fluffiy lyrics.
Santana pretended she didn't notice any of it happening but she did, and she couldn't help the smile creeping up on her face as she saw the look of realization cross Brittany's face.
She signaled to Mike and he started spinning Brittany around while Santana directed her voice to her blonde best friend.
"Baby, I love you,
I never want to let you go,
the more I think about,
the more I want to let you know,
that everything you do,
is super duper cute,
and I can't stand it."
They all finished up their impromptu concert and Brittany settled into a more preferred position with her head on Santana's shoulder, pinkies interlocked.
Nobody commented on Santana's song because she didn't need compliments, or solos, or singing tips. Those quiet moments before Glee club were just theirs and they liked it that way.
Santana still had the glazed look on her eyes and some of the kids dared a peek back at the two best friends because they were just so super fucking cute.
