In the beginning there was nothing. A vast expanse of cold waters named Nun churned endlessly without cause or purpose. There was no light, there was no warmth. Time had no power or meaning here. For countless eons this void of darkness fueled chaos reigned supreme.
Until...something stirred from within. A single spark of light rose up out of Nun. Fearful of change, the waters tried to swallow it back but the spark grew ever brighter. Two beings named Atum and Iusaaset emerged from this shimmering light. Using their great power, the waters of Nun were driven back. Their aura filled the void with warmth thus drying up the earth. Upon the dry land, their children, Shu and Tefnuit, were born. At first, the four were happy alone together. However their role as creation deities soon began to call out to them.
On Atum's command, Shu separated the sky from the earth with Tefnuit's support. In the space of separation Iuasset planted a sapling. Known as the Persea Tree by the divine ones, each leaf that sprouted represented a living creature. The first mortals that sprang from the tree were in awe at the sight of their creators. Atum gifted each and everyone of them a life force stemming from his own Ka. Blessed with this gift, the mortals descended to their own realm. Shu and Tefnuit were instructed to accompany them to establish law and order. With their creation roles complete, Atum and Iusaaset looked on from above as they tended to the Persea Tree.
As time wore on, old leaves fell as new leaves replaced them. The Persea Tree stood as a pillar for all life no matter how great or small. Creation had taken place in a once empty void, and would continue to do so until the waters of Nun prevailed once again.
