Edit: Thank you to zjloco & aalmarashi9 for the constructive criticism on this chapter. I've fixed it for everyone to read without a bit of a headache that would otherwise discourage people from reading lol

Howdy everyone, how all are ya? I'm new to the whole fanfiction scene so this would be my very first Fanfiction Story. I hope you all enjoy this story I'm bout to write to you all.

This is my take on one of my favorite anime called Re:Zero & combining a character that I don't often find taken on a creative path. This character, or rather boss is from Dark Souls, specifically the 3rd installment.

If you all feel there needs to be work done to the story, do leave a constructive review that gets me thinking! Anyways, let's begin

Just for anyone's information: 'this is what a thought will look like'

Chapter 0: Prologue of A New Life

'How pathetic' he thought.

To think a being like him would be in the position that he was in. Something as prideful & powerful as him reduced to a mere guardian for a test. To be killed by that which was a mere unkindled, a glorified undead that would stay resolute to it's duty. Until it's duty was concluded, it would not hollow no matter how much it died. It was a truly persistent being that would stop at nothing to complete its objective.

Though, this wasn't the only thing on the prideful one's mind, for he felt ashamed at his defeat to the brother of the Lord of Cinder Lothric. Oh what was that being's name? It had escaped his mind for he had been where he was left by that cur after his defeat. It had been difficult to keep time in his mind, considering his condition and the cavern he was in, which it had been who knows how long since his defeat. Though it had been one hell of a battle that the being quite enjoyed, his enjoyment was overshadowed by the pure rage he felt at the pompous royalty. He himself was royalty; which stung even more, however it was pointless to be filled with hate and rage when it was impossible to even act on his aggression.

His soul was fragmented after his defeat, meaning he no longer could maintain the body he once had. He now had to depend on another of his kind to keep what little of his soul alive. He had to take a passive role, in a sort of limbo, and he merely watched the surroundings of the two that were currently in the cavern that were stuck with him. To say it was a boring existence would be an understatement. He was highly fortunate to not have a body currently as he most likely would have gone hollow staying in the cavern for such a long time.

The only entertainment he had was every once a while, an unkindled would journey down to this cavern to face the test that his situation was. It was intriguing seeing the two beings tag-teaming the unkindled and ending it's misery like it were a fly to an undead. Though he most definitely did not enjoy the part of him being able to not do anything, he merely wished to escape this cavern and experience the outside world once more. How he longed for such freedom.

However, one day something happened. An unkindled, determined to complete the test, had set out for the two beings. The fragmented soul, not expecting anything out of this puny unkindled, watched on with amusement. However, this being seemingly was predicting every move they made. Every move they made, he was two moves ahead of them as if he were dancing in a ball of death. (The ball being a formal dance party). It was impressive that he was outwitting them, & then the unthinkable happened… one of the beings fell to the unkindled's blade, slicing through it like it was mere meat ready for butchering.

The soul began to grow concerned, he never imagined any of the puny beings able to slay his kin. The fight continued, with more anxiety beginning to grow on the soul. 'Impossible, how can this morsel stand up to my kind?' The fight continued with it heating up more and more, his kin was slowly being overwhelmed by the unkindled until finally, it collapsed. Exhausted beyond belief, it no longer could fight & was only a matter of time til the unkindled would kill it. Sensing this, the fragmented soul began to prepare for it's unveiling. As expected, the Unkindled's GreatSword slashed away the kin's head, making for a swift end to it.

This enraged the soul to the point that flames began to pop out of the ground around the body. The Unkindled sensing danger stepped away from the body and began to prepare for whatever might happen. With a mighty roar, the being exploded revealing great flames enveloping it. The Demon Prince had returned. The Demon Prince began it's assault upon the unkindled, however just as the Unkindled had done to his demon kin, he was being outmatched as well by the Unkindled. The Demon Prince being even more enraged by this development, began firing hists of fiery rain upon the Unkindled. This did more damage than both his kin could ever do. The Unkindled took out an orange flask and took a swig from it, his injuries healing in record time.

This angered the prince even more and began swinging fire orbs at the Unkindled. The Unkindled attempted dodging which was met with half-success. Most of the fire orbs missed him, however he did mistime his rolling dodges against some of the orbs which hit him, injuring him more than ever.

'This is my chance to make this fool realize he is out of his league!'

The Prince began flapping his bat-like wings and reared back to the other side of the cave. Summoning much of his power, he began to concentrate into a very high-powered beam of heat at the unkindled. However the Unkindled predicted this, & at the very last second dodged the beam with precision accuracy. This caught him off guard, he began to charge up another beam attack while the undead was making his way to the Prince. The demon unleashed the beam attack only to miss once again.

'This bastard is starting to get on my nerves!'

When the Unkindled reached the Prince, he took out what looked to be a Talisman & began to chant a prayer, one the prince heard stories of. The Prince attempted to smash the Unkindled but it was too late, for the unlikely Unkindled finished the chant of Sunlight Spear & hurled it at the Prince. The Prince, & demons in general, being weak to lightning became greatly injured as well as it seemed he was paralyzed.

'How can this be, a mere Unkindled overcoming me!? Have I truly lost myself!?'

With one final Swipe from the Unkindled's GreatSword, the Prince Lost. The battle, his life, & his soul. At least the last bit of his soul. It seemed the time for peace & rest was upon the Prince, though quite understandably angry at this thought, decided his fate was that of a mere test to unlock the Pygmy's great land, The Ringed City. As he begun to think that this wasn't such a bad thing to be at rest in whatever this void was…

He was thrust into the light. Dazed, he found himself lying in the ground, however something was off. He was on pavement, something found only in human civilization and those that were in some way related to humans. But there was something more… alarming. He was alive, and he was in his more human-like appearance. He had the features of a more attractive human, with a slim but muscular build on top of a somewhat chiseled face. On him, he wore clothing more suited for common folk but he had some leather armor upon his body, (pauldrons, bracers, body armour & full leg armour) & most intriguing, a cape was strapped upon one of his pauldrons. (Though to call it a cape is a bit of an overstatement, it's more like a flag strapped on his pauldron) the cape showed a bat upon a black & red color scheme.

In his eyes, he didn't feel the need for any armor upon him for his hide was quite resilient. The only reason he became injured at all was that the Unkindled had some very latent strength that seemed to have been unlocked. Though he did not realize it, his more human appearance was alot more… fragile than his demon self. Whatever the case may be, he was very bewildered & sat down and thought to himself.

'Very intriguing, I'm alive and in a more human form. In a way, I guess I got what I wish… but I have the oddest feeling that I'm nowhere near where I was.'

In front of the alley he was in he saw a crowd of humans & other interesting creatures. Most interesting was none were out to kill each other, which in his eyes was quite odd indeed.

'Most likely, these beings are not afflicted with the undead curse, though how that is possible I do not know. Probably a good idea not to go causing trouble when I have no idea where I am.'

The last remaining question for him was… what should he do now?

'I could just fly around in my true form, though that would most likely raise suspicion… Perhaps I should check this city out, after all I have never been in a human city before.'

And with that he walked into the crowd to check out the sights and sees.

And that is the end of Chapter 1. I hope this is a decent story for anyone who is reading this. I want to take a kind of neutral stance with the Prince for the time being. I will go along with the story of Re:Zero, just in my own taste and words.

Anyways, I will do my best to update the story whenever I can, I've always wanted to make a fanfiction involving the Demon Prince since I never could find any involving him. He is my favorite boss in the whole series hands down. His boss fight isn't too unique, except for him having different movesets on which demon you take out last. But I love all both demon's designs, 1st phase & 2nd phase.

Also, The prince will be kinda overpowered. I'm going to attempt to balance him in some way, but he still is gonna be powerful. Also, there are going to be some things added on; like the fact he can morph into things, simply so I can kinda give him interactions with the other characters. Also, I do know that technically the prince and king titles are more based on power, but I figured why not add both power & familial descent together. In terms of who is more powerful, The Old Demon King & The Demon Prince, I think scaling wise due to gameplay it would be The Prince but… theoretically, in the lore The king would be more powerful. But you could also argue The Old Demon King isn't in his prime since it's implied he is quite older.

Anyways, I do hope you all enjoy this chapter. If you wish to leave some criticism for me on how I can improve the story, please do tell… just don't make it personal. Anyways, thank you for reading & I wish you all a very great day.

Hopefully this will be a much better edit than what I previously had going for it. I kinda made this up on the spot, but at the same time I was giving it a lot of thought. I have been wanting to make a fanfiction in this particular series with my favorite boss. As for chapter updates, It's gonna be really dependent on how busy my time schedule is with work. Hopefully I can do a chapter every week but if I do not upload I most likely will tweet if I am unable to make a chapter update. So yeah, if you wanna keep up to date on how chapters are going, I'll just be leaving my twitter username. *shameless plugin* Sonesey01
