Belle sent out a decree that any child in Auradon may be exchanged for the life of another, like an exchange student. Both children will go back home after 2 months. They will be treated like the parents' actual children. Understandably, some parents were worried about safety. They were reassured by a negotiation about Fairy Godmother using her magic to make sure nobody died.
1 month later
"Carlos, Dizzy, Mal, Evie, Jay, Gil, and Hadie have been chosen to go to Auradon for 2 months. In their places will be Lonnie, Ben, Chad, Audrey, Jane, Kit, and Ari." Maleficent's voice gleefully boomed across the Isle of the Lost. "You have one day to pack." The aforementioned children scurried off to pack. The next day, a beautifully beat-up Jeep dropped off pampered teens, all of them looking to be about 15 except for one 10-year-old girl who, along with two 15-year-old girls, looked tougher and more ready to fight than the others.
The Isle exchange students walked into the Jeep curiously. They had never seen a car before. Their pondering was cut short when the driver started to talk.
"Jay will room with Mulan and Li Shang. Evie and Dizzy will be with Anita and Roger Radcliffe. Mal and Hadie will room with King Beast and Queen Belle. Carlos will be with Cinderella. Gil with room with the Fairy Godmother." After the driver finished that monologue, the VKs sat and wondered about their 'foster parents'.
When the car pulled into a driveway labeled as belonging to Auradon Prep, the driver explained that it was their new school. None of them responded but they all were listening.
Waiting in the garden of the school, a crowd of adults paced. Mulan fought the urge to punch something as Li Shang watched. Anita and Roger played with two of their dogs, but not quite as enthusiastically as normal. The King and Queen whispered to each other, concern apparent on their faces. Cinderella had climbed a tree. The Fairy Godmother ran around muttering, "Bibbidi Bobbidi why? Bibbidi Bobbidi why?" Tension lay thick in the air.
From way up in the tree, Cinderella exclaimed of the silver Jeep pulling up to the school. Everyone hurried to look like they hadn't been worried.
Two doors opened. On the left side, two teenage girls stepped out with their vivid hair sheltering two 10-year-olds. On the other side, a guy with white hair stared at the ground. A guy with black hair and a guy with blond hair punched each other playfully.
The driver cleared his throat. The guys who had been punching each other looked up. Deciding that it was time, Mulan opened her mouth and said something.
"Uh, hi. I'm Mulan. Who's Jay?" she stuttered out. Immediately she regretted it. It came out harsh and uninterested. The black-haired boy strutted forward and inspected her. Without any apparent reason, he nodded his head.
"That would be me." Each of the teenagers in the car walked over to their foster parents, the vibrant-haired girls with their charges.
One Hour Later In The Radcliffes' House
" Here's the extra fabric you wanted. Dinner's in a few hours. Just tell me if you need anything." Anita smiled shyly at Evie and Dizzy. The two artists got to work. By the time Anita got them for dinner, each of them had made their own wardrobe, a fashion line, and a few outfits for the dogs and Anita and Roger. All Anita could say was a simple 'wow.'
"Oh is it dinner time? We're coming." Evie and Dizzy grinned. At dinner, there was a salad, some steak, rice, and a pie. Anita and Roger watched, bemused, as Evie and Dizzy gobbled down the salad, rice, and pie. When they asked about the steak, they said they were both vegetarian. Evie ate as though she was starving and painfully polite. Dizzy ate less, but very quickly.
They all started talking about opening a fashion brand, with Evie on clothes and Dizzy on accessories and shoes. Dizzy braided Anita's hair and Evie's hair got twisted into an updo.
They went to sleep in the softest beds they'd ever felt.
That Afternoon In The Shang House
"Ok. You probably don't want to waste time on a full house tour but if you want I can show you to the martial arts and gym room." Mulan glanced at Jay. Or rather, where Jay had been. She sighed and made her way down to the gym, where she correctly guessed that Jay had bolted. What she didn't guess was how good he was. He made his way through the hardest parts of the gym without breaking a sweat. Or, rather, she assumed he wasn't as he hadn't taken off his shirt. Most guys went without a shirt and girls in just sports bras. Mulan shrugged and got ready to do some martial arts training. It would've been better to spar, but with Lonnie gone, no one ever wanted to go up against the infamous Mulan.
"Hey. Let's spar." Jay still didn't take his shirt off. The whole match, he kept it on. He sweat through it but he still kept it on. When the match was over, he turned around. His red leather jacket seemed, if possible more red, more vibrant.
Dinner was a short affair. Mulan ate quickly as did Jay. Li Shang just ate a little. Mulan and Jay got into a playful debate of whether it was alright to use someone's strength against them in a fight.
Jay fell asleep at one in the morning in a chair with one eye open.
That Afternoon in the Fairy Godmother's House
"And that's your room." FG finished off. Gil stared at her in utter shock. "What? Did I say something?" FG worried.
"I get my own room?" Gil stared at her with saucer-wide eyes. "With, what was it called, a…. Bed?"
FG was perplexed. She knew that the Isle kids were different but she thought that they'd at least have had beds. She swallowed. "Uh, yeah. Would you like dinner?" Wrong thing to say if she wanted to be less surprised.
"But, I haven't done any chores yet! I get dinner?" FG was taken aback. Speechless, she nodded.
When they got to the table, Gil stopped short. "This is dinner?" FG was about to respond when he continued. "How did you get all of this food?" This was not what she was expecting.
Taking a deep breath, she slammed her mouth shut. The rest of the night she wondered what really happened on the Isle,
Gil slept for the first time in a week.
