"Hah! Take that, Chase!" Percy shouted, his video game avatar absolutely crushing Annabeth's. The blond girl sucked in her teeth, trying to keep her cool, as she watched her 8-bit health bar decrease rapidly.
The two were playing a game of "Fight Fighters"—a vintage-style video game from a couple of years ago. Thankfully, demigods could play video games without getting found by monsters. Unfortunately, that meant more risk of Annabeth breaking into a rage over losing at a video game. But it wasn't Scrabble, so it's an improvement.
Annabeth rapidly pressed the B-button, powering up for a mega attack that would totally defeat Percy. She stared excitedly at the TV screen as her video game avatar spun his arm backwards, before aggressively punching Percy's, knocking his health down to 0. The screen faded to black, with the words "GAME OVER" written in big, white letters on it.
Triumphantly, Annabeth threw down her video game controller onto the ground, standing up from her spot on the couch. "HAHA! Take THAT, Jackson!" She began to dance her victory dance towards her boyfriend, who was watching dejectedly from his side of the couch. "Yeah, yeah," he muttered, picking up his controller and pressing a button. The screen blinked back to life, displaying the two demigods' avatars once more, except now Percy pressed a button, and defeated Annabeth once and for all.
Annabeth was broken from her victory dance, noticing what Percy was doing too late. "Wait, Percy, what are you doing—NO-" but it was too late. She was forced to watch her avatar crumble into pixels, wanting to wipe Percy' smug smile off his face.
