Hello everyone. This is Toadly1998.

Welcome to the sequel to Pokémon: United Bonds. The sequel to Pokémon: One of a Kind.

I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed making it.

The song started quietly at first and then built into a chorus of joyous, lighthearted chirping. This happy tune, carried by Pidgeys, drifted through Flash Town and down into Louis Serrano's bedroom.

Soon, the harmonies reached deep into his sleep and began to draw the boy awake.

Louis sat up, rubbed his eyes of the rest, and emerged into the kitchen, now bustling with its own morning routine.

"I hope this one lasts longer," said Janet, turning as she placed a feather-wrapped pen on a table before Miguel. Its silver-white vane catching the morning sun in a bright display.

The man picked up the tool and proceeded in scribbling a small number of words on a nearby sheet of paper. The ink flowed from the pen effortlessly as he wrote. Miguel wrinkled his face in a smile. Wise lines of experience cornered like crows feet in his expression.

"This is fantastic!" Louis' father said, excitedly.

"...I promise I won't lose this one."

Louis stood in the arch of the kitchen, where the aromas of breakfast flowed through the boy's nose.

"Uh...morning?" Louis sheepishly offered, still wracked with exhaustion.

"Oh! Morning, son," said Miguel. "Your mother has made breakfast...and the toast is perfect!"

"Did you sleep well?" Louis' mother questioned.

"I think so," replied the boy. "I think I spent the night dreaming instead of sleeping."

More chirping entered the homestead's circular windows.

Louis reached for a slice of toast and spread a thick dollop of creamy butter across its golden-brown surface.

"I take it you're off to see your girlfriend today?" remarked Pidgeotto, teasingly.

A corner of toast lodged in Louis' throat at this. Louis coughed on the words he had just heard. The boy proceeded to scowl at the brown-feathered bird.

"Pidgeotto!?" the boy groaned. "You know it's not like that!"

Miguel chuckled as he watched his son's face turn to a faint shade of red, in between bites of toast.

It had been a week since the letter, since the invitation. The aches of the last adventure had finally left his body, and today, Louis Serrano felt fresh for the first time in a while. Nervous energy flowed through the boy at the thought of meeting the Pokemon Academy's teachers.

Louis caught Miguel drawing something strange.

"Is that...a Pokémon?" the boy asked.

The boy picked up the sheet and studied the odd design. Depicted was a dancing, duck-billed pineapple creature sporting a sombrero-like growth on its head.

"What is that?" he continued.

"It's a Ludicolo," answered Miguel.

"...a what?" inquired Louis, still baffled.

"A Ludicolo," explained the father. "It's a Pokémon from the Hoenn region."

"Oh…" Louis paused. "...I thought you made it up."

Janet approached the table. Her yellow and black long-sleeved shirt drew the boys' attention.

"So, what are you doing today?" she asked.

"Well...I was planning on going to see Taki," answered Louis, shooting a glare at Pidgeotto.

The bird cheekily chirped and turned its attention outside.

"Mig, you going with him?" inquired Janet.

"Not today," the father answered. "I was planning on heading east to test this pen out."

"More cataloguing!?" she asked.

"There's always something new to find out there, and I want to be the first." he smiled.

Soon after, both father and son finished packing their day's preparations.

"Hat, keys, water, snacks, compass," said Louis to himself, smiling. "All set."

The front door flung open, and two sets of feet left the Serrano home, travelling in two separate directions. Before waving goodbye, the pair hugged.

"Be safe, boy," said Miguel in a firm but friendly offering.

"Hey...you too, dad… good luck, and no falling, ok?"

Miguel laughed.

"I could say the same for you!"
