A/N: This will be taking place directly after the end of the XYZ series and will be following Serena as she explores the Hoenn region, makes new friends and have adventures. As you can probably guess one of her main traveling buddies and rivals will be May. We will also see another character join the group that I will keep a secret for now. I made this because I notice many people didn't make many of the Serena expanded stories. With her being my favorite character and a character that could be easy to continue with, I just had to write this. As always review and rate. Also, no OCS in this story.
Chapter 1: Hoenn, Where Dreams and Adventures Continue!
As Serena stared out of the window of her plane down at the crystal-clear water. She felt hopeful of her future. She of course felt sad when she had to leave her friend in Kalos, but she was able to keep on smiling like Ash had always told her too. Ash... She smiled and touched her lips, remembering how she had said goodbye to him. As much as she wanted to stay with him. The blonde knew she need to find her own future.
"Never give up until the end!" The boy's words of wisdom rang in her ears. She nodded her head, grabbed her three pokeballs, and told herself that she would honor his words and not only compete in the contest, but win all the way to the end.
Looking back out the window, the Kalos girl saw the region of Hoenn in the distance appear on the horizon. Her heart jumped at seeing her new destination. Her smile only grew as they got closer to the new region.
Once the plane had landed, she raced off into the hot sunshine. Knocking a few people out of the way in her excitement, the hastily apologizing and helping them off the hot concrete. Serena looked around at the large dock town of Slateport City. Before she left Kalos she had read that one of the contest halls was in the oceanic city. Smiling brightly once again she raced into the city, encountering a bunch of pokemon she had never seen not being equipped with a pokedex yet she was unable to learn about the ones she had seen. However, she was excited to learn more about all the new pokemon. Serena put that thought out of her mind and begin to make her way through the town once more, focusing on finding the local contest beginning to get underway. However, in her haste she forgot to watch where she was going and slammed into somebody in front of her. Being knocked on her bum Serena was dazed for a second before looking around to see what she had run into. Looking over she saw a tall boy about her age hold a map she presumed he was reading before they collided. Feeling very badly for running into him she began to apologize.
"Oh, I'm so sorry for bumping into you!" She spoke very and looked hoping for forgiveness.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" The boy said harshly while picking himself up and brushing his knees he had landed on painfully.
"You don't own the sidewalk lady! Learn to share it with the rest of us!" He continued risky while giving her a mean glare. Serena scoffed at this and felt he was being overly rude.
"Hey! I already apologized, and besides it was an accident!" The blonde spoke angrily as they both began to stand up.
"Oh, Yeah thanks! That apology will really help me fix my map!" He practically yelled as she then saw that their fall had caused his map to be ripped in half. She was going to say something back in her defense but couldn't find any words as she felt to guilty. He just scoffed at her and shook his head he walked away. Then he whispered under his breath "newbies" as he tried to rearrange the map to fit it back together.
Serena just stood there for a second feeling overly depressed. She had started off so happy but felt personally responsible for ruining some else's day. Almost crying she realized there was no Ash, Clemont or even Bonnie to help her now, she was completely alone. No, then she touched her belt and remembered the three friends she still had with her. It didn't matter if she was moving on, she would always have her Pokémon by her side.
"So, who needs you mister… whoever you are!" She blurted out very uncharacteristically of her luckily there was no one nearby so she didn't look like an idiot. Smiling again she dusted herself off she made her way through the beach town again; this time make sure to pay attention to where she was going.
After some searching and and a journey through the local market area. She would have purchased something from the nice people, but she did not want to blow her funds to early. The performer then arrived at the contest hall. It seemed a little smaller than she had seen in her guidebook, but it was impressing. Smiling one last time Serena made her way through the double boots to apply for the contest.
Looking around the lobby, the blonde was amazed at the many extravagant people and Pokémon she saw all smiling and happy. She then bounced her way passed the many coordinators over to the concierge.
"Excuse me!" She attempted to get her attention and smiled happy when the lady turned to greet.
"Hello, how may I help you" She asked nicely as she looked down at the bubbling girl. "I'd like to sign up for this contest!"
"Great! I will just need to see your contest pass to get you registered!"" The concierge stuck out her open hand to accept the girl ribbon case. Serena's eyes when wide as she had never heard of that.
"Oh, I'm sorry I don't have one of those, haha" she awkwardly tried to laugh to break the embarrassment she was feeling.
"Oh, then I'm afraid you cannot register without a contest." The lady spoke sadly having lost her bright smile. Serena has also lost much of her glowing aura as her ear to ear grin was replaced with a blank expression. Wishing to cheer the young coordinator up, the concierge did find some good news.
"Well you are in luck as just a few towns over in Littleroot Town lives Professor Birch, he can provide you with a pass." Serena perked up at this news but did not say anything as she was waiting for the lady to continue.
"He also provides many new trainers and coordinators with their first Pokémon and Pokédex." This really made the honey blonde girl smile as she had a new destination to continue her adventure.
"Littleroot Town. Where is that exactly?" She asked the nice lady who gave her simple directions.
"Just follow route 110 to 103 then down to route 101" "okay, sounds easy enough" Serena responses as she quickly ran out the door to get to Littleroot Town. However, she turned around and ran back up to the desk to toss a quick "thank you" to the nice lady.
As she walked back out into the hot Hoenn sun she smiled again and tried to remember her dire directions.
"Route 110 to route 103 down to route 101" she told herself as she travels north and found the route 110 sign and began her track to Littleroot Town.
Later that night:
"Alright, I'll admit it. We are lost!" Serena shouted to nobody as she threw up her arms in frustration. She had made it onto route 103 fine but was having trouble finding the path to route 101. She eventually gave up on her back tracking and sat next to a tree, feeling very fatigued. what made it even worse was the fact that the sun had begun to set and seeing as how she was nowhere near a Pokémon center; she was going to have to camp. Though she did not hate camping it was always better with company. Being able to joke with Bonnie had helped her get through that experience. Utter a huge sigh she stood up and began to take her backpack off, ready to set up her supplies. However, right before she was going to up up her pack; she heard a rustling next to her. Looking to a nearby bush, the blonde saw what looked like the backside of some Pokémon. It looked black with a rounded back side. Moving closer in curiosity the creature the suddenly moved standing up causing Serena to scream and be knocked on her bum again.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! Did I startle you!" Serena looked around frantically as she searched for the source of the voice she had just heard. Looking up she saw the "Pokémon" she had just been staring at, but it wasn't a Pokémon at all. It was a girl. She appeared to be not much older than herself, though they couldn't look any different. Rather than having Serena's honey colored hair, this girl had chestnut brown hair. Said hair was tied with a green bandana that caused it to be spilt into two pigtails. That green bandana matched the rest of her outfit as she had a green suit with a pair of black shorts. She then stuck out her hand to help her up.
"Sorry about that! Hi, I'm May!"
A/N: I know that one was kind of short, but I wanted to leave off on a cliff hanger. So yeah Serena is in Hoenn she has met May and she is going to get her contest pass and Pokédex. Just to clarify she will not be getting one of the Hoenn starters. I have already written her team as well as some of the other characters teams. Lastly, May will not be a traveling buddy, she will be a recurring rival like Paul or Shauna.
