The 25th Quarter Quell: Revenge
Disclaimer: I do not own The Hunger Games.
District 12:
We sat in front of the T.V. waiting to find out what the twist would be for this quell, they've been worse since Katniss Everdeen was killed in the 75th games.
I held my breath as the president came up on stage and grabbed the card marked with a perfect 625 written on it and started to read.
"For the 625th anniversary of the Hunger Games, to prove the capital's sacrifice and mark the end of the Games the districts will vote on 24 capital citizens to enter the arena.
What just happened? I couldn't believe it. The capital was risking the lives of its own citizens to prove sacrifice, what sacrifice? We were the ones who started the war over 600 years ago.
The broadcast cut off just as every one was taking in what she said.
I knew who I was going to vote for.
Capital: Six months later:
I was with a group of 15 year olds in a roped off area on the Corso, waiting for the reaping to start. President Cale stood up at the podium to call the names of the unlucky capital students this year.
"The children representing district 1 will be Joshua Crowly and Alice Dorr. District 2, Michael Green and Carrie Dower. District 3, Ollie Farsmith and Abigail Hevansbee. District 4, Quant Flikerman and Rabia Rosehair. District 5, Zach Lowbreeze and Lia Nightgaze. District 6, Fallan Mildwood and Serenity Batfur. District 7, Aaren Call and Delilah Mason. District 8, Abott Xalek and Hannah Tonelte. District 9, Carl Noler and Tayler Kertoy. District 10, Jhon Xanhi and Erica Kaliner. District 11, Royal Sanilet and Rose Alinter. District 12, Sam Crane and Carel Snow."
I froze when she called my name. Of course District 12 would vote for a descendent of Coriolanus Snow. He made the 3rd quell so their victor, Katniss Everdeen, would be killed and they can't choose him since he's dead so they chose his only living descendant, me.
1 week later:
We had just got our trackers put in and were in the aircraft on the way to the arena. When we got to what the districts call the slaughter house under the arena my stylist came in with my outfit for the Games.
It was a navy green t-shirt and black leggings with dark brown leather boots and a black jacket. As he helped me get dressed I took my token, a small necklace with a blue heart, out of my pocket. It was the last thing I would ever see from my family, I knew I wasn't going to win, I think it was easier for the Districts since they could handle hunger and fought for their life every day even if they never went into the games, I wasn't going to win I was weak, slow, and not good with a weapon. I was good at art, so I might be able to camouflage myself until the end, but what would happen when I was in the final 2? I would have to fight, and I would lose.
As I was lifted into the arena the first thing I noticed was that it was the same arena used in the 74th games, Katniss's first games. They were trying to symbolise something, and I think I knew what, that year they let 2 tributes win. This year was showing the capital's mercy to the Districts again so none of them had to die, only 23 capital children.
As the gong sounded I grabbed a grey backpack that was by my feet and ran to the field where the guy from District 11 hid that year, I knew I would be able to get food and hide in here.
I found a small hole that would be great to hide in if I covered it in grass after I got in, so I climbed in and started going through the bag. I found a bag of trail mix, 2 throwing knives, a bottle of water, and a pair of night vision glasses. That's when I heard cannons going off, 9, I climbed up later that night to see who had died.
Ollie, Rabia, Zach, Delilah, Hannah, Jhon, Royal, Rose, and Sam. I was about to cry, Delilah and Rabia had been my best friends, but I heard other tributes coming by and sank back down into the hole. They saw me, shoot, I knew I was going to die. I grabbed the necklace and crawled back into the hole and, releasing it was an old mine shaft, crawled in a small tunnel hoping they wouldn't notice me. They didn't see me and left taking one of my knives that I had dropped, not that I could use it but they were more skilled than me and it was dangerous anyway, more dangerous when they had weapons.
I didn't sleep that night. Instead I came out to look for food and found a feild wild vegetables just as Lia came through the grass with an axe. If I had my knife I would have tried to defend myself, but I left it in the mine shaft. As she brought her axe down on my head I heard a cannon, my cannon.
(A/N: When it says what district the tributes are representing it means the district that voted for them)
(A/N2: I will not continue this story)
