Chapter fourteen:

L turns as Misa enters the car.

With the blonde female model safely inside and the car door closed Watari begins driving them around aimlessly.

"How did your mission go?" L inquires brushing his thumb against his bottom lip as his eyes meet with Misa's own. "Were you able to get the pictures that we need?"

"That and a video." Misa confirms handing L the device that she had used. "He had no idea of what I was doing. He thought that I was getting a drink of water at the time." She smiles to herself feeling rather proud of what she had accomplished.

"Very good." L puts the device in a safe spot then lets Misa take hold of his hand lovingly. "I will get the death papers of the names written on the pictures and video. Then I will start the beginnings to take down Light. However I am thinking that it'll be easier once Light allows us to get our hands on a Death note."

"I think so too. They'll believe it better if they have the Death note that Light is going to allow you guys to get." Misa agrees with that logic. "I will be willing to help in anyway that I can."

"I actually have an idea of how we can go about this." L mentions to Misa. "I will keep in contact with you if I need you to do more. However there is a part that I will need you to play. If you are up to it that is."

"Of course I am." Misa confirms to L as they watch each others eyes. "What do you need me to do?"

Elsewhere….

"An anonymous letter came in the mail. Someone here has contact with Kira." Kyosuke's co-worker named Namikawa holds up the letter. "Though it could very well be that one of us is Kira."

"I don't think that matters." Takashi brings up gaining their attention to him. "What matters is that we can have whoever we want killed. We can further our company by having our rivals killed."

"I agree with that idea." Kyosuke speaks out in agreement to this and smirks. "After all when are we going to get an opportunity like this again?"

"Well then…" Kida glances around to the others. "Let us all take a vote on this. Who should we have Kira, whoever that may be, kill first?"

Later…

L and the task force are watching the news on the latest killings and after hearing some of the names L begins to research on some of them.

"Well it appears that something has changed." L's words cause everyone to turn to look to him.

"What do you mean by that?" Light inquires for all of them being rather curious though in reality he knows what L has already spotted. Considering it is all a part of his plan.

"It appears that not all the killings were of criminals." L explains looking over his screen. "Some were business people. Those in companies that are in someway competition to Yotsuba Corporation."

"Why would this start now?" Matsuda questions slightly surprised at hearing this.

"Perhaps Kira has shared his power." L responds and pauses as if in thought over it. He thinks to himself that this is going perfectly. Surely soon enough he'll be able to reveal the truth and bring Light down. He keeps those thoughts as hidden as possible not letting even a spark of it appear on his face. "There is one thing though. If this trend continues then we may need to look to the Yotsuba." He doesn't want to rush things just yet. He knows that if he jumps on board for it right away then things could go badly. "In the meantime we will look for more clues. While keeping a close eye on the next killings that Kira, or possibly this new Kira commits. I am only thirty percent sure that the Yostuba corporation is somehow involved in the whole Kira thing currently. I will share my idea if the case that they are somehow involved does indeed happen to show that it is true. For now we will focus on what we can."

With that the others get back to work knowing that L doesn't want to jump onto this as it could be a trap set up for them. They know that there is no way to tell just yet. So it is better to wait to see if it really does continue.

Light moves from where he was standing by the others to sit next to L causing the raven haired male to turn to him. He looks to the other man allowing their eyes to meet with one another. "If the Yotsuba corporation does have Kira's ability or be in contact with Kira why in the world would Kira choose someone from there? Out of anyone else that could have been chosen?" He questions trying to pry a little into giving a fake look of concern over this. "I just wonder what Kira could be thinking letting someone who would do this have the ability to have whoever killed by Kira's methods. Whatever that method happens to be." He slightly glances away. "It doesn't really make any sense to me."

"It is possible that Kira has a favour to this corporation." L points out bringing the brunette male's attention back to him. "Or perhaps Kira was unaware that this would happen upon sharing his method of killing." He theorizes to the other. "We will just have to continue along with what we are able to gather for now. We will cross into that territory more when the time comes. If it truly turns out that they are somehow involved with Kira."

"I suppose you are right." Light nods his head to this. He sets to work as L turns away to do the exact same thing.

L waits until the others have already headed off to bed for the night. He glances around to confirm that he really is alone. He turns back to his computer feeling satisfied after seeing that he is indeed all alone in the main room. He pulls out the device from his pants pocket where he had hidden it. He plugs it into his computer and goes through the stuff saved on it that Misa managed to get. He checks it all without any audio just in case Light happens to be listening in. He double checks the names that he sees being written by Light himself. He finds the confirmation that he was looking for that those people did indeed die of a heart attack, on the day that the files from the device are labelled as when they were taken. He finds a small smile to come to his lips at seeing the proof before his very eyes. He knows that he's got Light and now all he needs is to get the Death note from Kyosuke before he can make any big moves. He also doesn't want Light to find out that Misa has been sharing information with him because that would put her in danger. His heart warms as he truly thinks about Misa causing a small blush to dust his cheeks. He never thought that he would ever have a chance like this.

A chance to be with someone romantically and to have someone close to him who isn't the man he sees as his adoptive father Watari.

He still cares very deeply about Watari though he had thought for so many years that he would be the only who would be like a family to him. His mind does briefly drift to the orphans who currently reside in the orphanage that he and Watari made.

The orphans that he looks to as his students that he sometimes takes time out of his day to help in their training; Though they're trusting those hired by them and the manager of the orphanage named Rodger to do most of the training.

They don't have enough time between cases to do it all on their own after all.

L supposes that Misa could at least meet the top three students there.

Mello, Near and Matt. They are the current highest orphans out of all those that are currently there. They have had the pleasure of meeting him face to face while the others have only to spoken with him through a computer, when he schedules such times for visiting with him. They are the three likely to follow in his footsteps to become the next versions of L the worlds greatest detective.

L isn't playing favourites though he understands how important that Mello, Near and Matt's schooling is if they are possibly going to follow in his footsteps. He has this as the reason that he allows them to know what he is really like, as well as to be able to have face to face visits with him whenever he drops by the orphanage. He has a thought that with Misa working with him so far confirmed for future cases then they should get to know her a little as well. He'll just have to decide how much information to share with them as he doesn't tell them everything. He feels his phone vibrate pulling him out of his thoughts and he pulls out to check who has messaged him. He feels warmth filling his body as he finds a message from Misa with the simple words that are the sweetest thing he has read today.

I love you.

Misa has truly stolen his heart and he is unable to resist her charm. She even cares for the greatest detectives heart that she had been offered to hold in her hands. She makes sure that if she can help it then nothing bad will happen to it.

L sends a response of 'I love you too.' To Misa in response then holds his cellphone close to his chest lightly closing his eyes for a few moments. He opens his eyes again knowing that he should probably get back to work. He does have things to prepare in secret after all since he can't let Light catch on to what is really going on behind the scenes. He puts his cellphone away and begins working once more so he can get all of this ready and hidden before tomorrow.

Misa in her hotel room lightly squeals happily at reading the raven mans response to her message she almost didn't send. She clutches the phone to her chest as she lays on her back on her bed happily starting at the ceiling. She cannot stop grinning. She is glad that she did end up sending the message because the message she had gotten back truly made her day a lot more special. She closes her eyes knowing that she should get some rest to prepare. She wants to be ready for when she is asked by the love of her life to do what he has planned. So she will make sure that she gets plenty of rest every night until that time comes. She is prepared to help the other in anyway that is needed of her. She soon finds herself drifting off to sleep after putting her phone on its charger. Her dreams filled with cliché romantic scenes of her and L together. She smiles in her sleep as she continues to dream.
