Chapter nineteen:

L is sitting alone working since it is rather late so he had made sure that the others went off to bed for the night. He brushes his right thumb against his bottom lip in slight thought as his eyes scan over the computer screen in front of himself. He finds his gaze drifting to the seat to his right. He can't help imagining Misa sitting there working with him on a case as his girlfriend and fellow detective.

Imaginary Misa turns to look to L as if curious while pausing in her work. She smiles happily at L himself and moves her left hand closer to his work area.

L snaps back to reality when he hears footsteps. He turns his head to look over his shoulder. He finds an all too familiar brunette standing in the doorway. "Light. Shouldn't you be sleeping? You need rest." He mentions as the said brunette walks further in the room towards him.

"What about you?" Light questions the great detective stopping a little behind him. "Aren't you tired? You've worked harder than the rest of us. You even stay up while the rest of us go to bed."

"I have some other cases that also need attention." L informs Light. "Plus I do some work on the Kira case as well. You don't need to worry about me Light. I am quite used to working late. I assure you that I will be fine."

Light stares into L's eyes for a few moments then lets out a breath. "Come on. Why don't you just try to get some sleep? You'll probably feel a lot better. And be able to work better."

"I appreciate your concern Light however I must again assure you that I will be okay. I probably wouldn't sleep if I did try. So I might as well get some work done instead of just wasting time laying in bed not doing anything."

Light stares at the black haired male for a few good moments before deciding to drop the issue. "Well alright then. I guess I will see you tomorrow."

"Have a god rest Light." L nods his head softly and for a few moments watches Light leave to head back to bed. He turns back to the computer that he is working on after the brunette male disappears from his sight around the corner.

The next day…

Misa turns as Light approaches her. She is wearing black sweat pants, a black baggy pull over hoodie with the hood pulled over her head, black high heel ankle high boots, and finally a pair of large sunglasses to truly hide her eyes. She wanted to make sure that she wouldn't be recognized especially with what her and Light need to speak about. She can't let those on L's team know that she is meeting up with Light, probably even when he is lying to them about where he is going. She doesn't even have her usual ponytails since she really doesn't want to be possibly identified. She opted on not wearing the wig. She feels like she is in a good enough disguise. She actually doesn't like being out with such baggy clothing though she understands the need for it quite well. "Greetings Light."

"Hello." Light gives a nod to her as he stops by her. He slightly glances around noting that no one is even paying any attention to them, or even close enough to hear them. He turns his attention back to the disguised Misa. "Things seem to be going quite well."

"We could make it go by faster." Misa offers to Light who tilts his head at this. She pulls out her cellphone. "I secretly got a confession from the man that we are using to get the Death note in the hands of those who are doing the investigation. We can give it to them so they can find a way to get their hands on the Death note faster than before. Then while they are distracted with that we can make our next move with them possibly not even noticing. Due to how distracted they will be with checking out the Death note we have given to them." She stops in her explanation as she waits for what Light thinks about her idea. She feels like she doesn't have to say that it was her own idea as she worries that then Light might get suspicious. She can't risk him thinking that she might be working with someone else. She could easily be killed by the brunette. Then how would she be able to have a life together with her beloved L? Not to mention that she doesn't want to end up leaving L all alone again without her to live with him. She brings her focus back to Light who looks like he is about to say something.

"Alright. You can contact one of the others. Whoever you can and say that he wanted to talk to you alone. Or something that will fit how you got him to confess to being Kira." Light agrees making Misa smile. "I am sure that they will want you to play it for all of them."

Misa nods her head and puts her cellphone away in her hoodie's pocket for now where she stuffs her hands into said pocket. She feels her heart slightly pounding in her chest from the excitement at the fact that things are going smoothly. She feels so much closer to be able to help L bring Light down to be arrested. She pushes away her feelings knowing that before anything she has to make sure that L and his team gets the Death note. "Will do. I will make sure I have a good story about how this came to happen. I will make sure that they won't suspect anything. Promise."

Light nods his head glad to hear this. "Well I need to meet my mother for a lunch that I promised her. So that way I am seen where I need to be according to what I told the others."

Misa nods and heads off keeping her hands in her pocket. She makes sure that she is walking with her back to the brunette, even as he also walks away to go to where he is supposed to be right now, and she allows herself to smirk to herself. She has him tangled in her web and he doesn't even know it.

Two days later the meeting she had arranged is going to take place. The day before it felt like it was time for her to reveal the recording that she had managed to get of the confession.

They just had said that they will meet her today as they had some work to finish up, which didn't matter to Misa as she can make sure she has her story straight.

Misa is waiting in the hotel room, her case files of other cases she is working on safely hidden so that they won't find them, as she holds onto her cellphone. She is currently wearing some of her usual clothes without any shoes on since she's in her hotel room. She can hardly sit still on the couch of her hotel room. She feels like this is going to be a huge accomplishment for herself as well as L himself to catch Kira.

The man who is able to kill anyone that he wants to with a heart attack or any other way that he can think of.

Misa turns hearing a knock come to the front door. She gets up putting her cellphone down on the coffee table then heads to answer it. She offers a smile to Matsuda and Soichiro who are standing there. "It is good to see you both." She mentions in greeting and moves to the side allowing them inside her hotel room before closing the door. "Please. Make yourselves comfortable." She mentions then heads past them to settle down on the couch.

Once the two have taken off their shoes they join her in sitting on the couch.

The three are turned so that way they can look at each other from where they are sitting.

"We might as well get straight down to business." Soichiro mentions then clears his throat before he continues with what he is going to say. "You mentioned that you had something important that you wanted to share with us." He receives a nod of confirmation from the only female in the hotel room. "What is it that you have for us to check out?"

"Well you remember how I mentioned that Kyousuke seemed to be a possibility for being one of the Kiras?" Misa receives nods of confirmation that they remember though she sees a concerned look come across Soichiro's face.

His eyes shine with worry, his mouth turns downward into a frown, his eyebrows moving down creating a concerned wrinkle between them, and he shifts slightly. Though he remains quiet for now to allow Misa to finish what it is that she needs to say to them.

"Well he has been wanting to continuously contact me." Misa knows that this isn't a lie as she has found that the man they are talking about has texted her. She tries to keep him humored while not promising anything to him. "And we ended up meeting after he had suggested that we do. So I jumped on the opportunity." She picks up her cellphone. "I told him that there was something I wanted to talk about. Since he has been wanting to meet quite a bit." She isn't lying about that as he has bugged her to meet up again after that one meeting. She keeps their meetings limited and she doesn't let things go further than anything friends will do. "And I managed to get him to confess to being one of the Kiras because I lied to him to nudge the conversation the way that I wanted it to go in." She plays the audio recording for them as she stops talking to let them listen.

Once the audio recording is done Soichiro is the first to speak. "That was a really dangerous move. You have put yourself in unneeded danger. I understand you were trying to take advantage of him wanting to meet up with you. Though if he finds out you lied to him he could kill you."

"But she got the man to admit to being one of the Kira's." Matsuda mentions looking at the older man who turns his attention to him. He doesn't back off even as their eyes meet with one another. "I mean she did a pretty good job. This is going to help us move forward quicker after all. So can't we give her some credit for being able to do this?"

Soichiro lets out a sigh closing his eyes for a moment. "Yeah. I suppose you are right on that." He admits causing Matsuda to smile widely at hearing this. He opens his eyes and turns to look to Misa who is waiting patiently for them to finish their conversation. "Alright." He tells the female as their eyes meet, and Matsuda leaning forward a little more to get a better look at Misa as they share final words for now. "You did good on at least getting the recording. We will get a copy and take it back to the others who are investigating the case."

"Just glad that I am able to help." Misa assures them about it though pauses as Soichiro clearly is going to speak again.

"Just don't let him catch on that you lied to him. Also just be very careful. We don't know how they kill people and if things get figured out then you could be killed." Soirchiro informs her in which Misa nods her head in understanding.

"I will be careful." Misa promises to the two of them. Truly just happy that she is helping move things towards being able to arrest and convict Light for the killings. She then could stay with L so that way the two of them can continue to work together on cases into the future. She keeps herself calm as she gives the two men a copy of the recording. She has to push away the thought of maybe having a family with L one day after they bring this case to a close, in order to remain looking calm. She doesn't want to blush in front of them knowing that there would be questions. She will keep herself under control as things go along.

Step by step closer to taking down Light from being Kira once and for all.
