Chapter twenty two:

Light enters into the main room to see that everyone is getting to work. He heads to a spot next to L. He begins checking things on the computer to resume where he had left off last time.

Matsuda can't help a glance to Light and he feels a bead of sweat drip down his neck. He feels his heart pound slightly in his chest at the very thought that they have Kira in the very same room as those trying to stop him.

L happens to notice Matsuda's look and before Light can take notice he turns to the brunette. "Light. Would you do something for me?" He questions bringing the others attention to him.

Light turns to look to L with Matsuda quickly turning away to look back to what he was doing. "Yeah sure. What is it that you need me to do?"

L grabs some of the files that he had gotten while everyone was asleep. "I need you to go through these files of the victims. I do have belief that Kira most likely did some tests on the Death note. I want to see what it is potential of. The files include pictures of their name in the Death note. I do believe that it'll help us if we understand what it is fully capable of."

"Of course." Light agrees taking the files and placing them by his keyboard. He opens up the top one to begin looking through it.

Soichiro can't bring himself to look at Light feeling a true and deep disappointment in what has happened. He almost can't believe that his prized son would turn down to this evil path. He slightly turns as he feels a hand on his shoulder. He sees that it is Aizawa who is holding a piece of paper.

"Soichiro do you think that you could double check this? I wanna see if my theory is right that all the writing is the same. I am wondering if the two Kiras used this death note or if it was just one." Aizawa mentions though Soichiro can tell that this is just an excuse to give him a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Oh. Sure." Soichiro takes the paper and looks over it though he doesn't feel if Light might have turned to him. He really hopes that the man he once called his son is too distracted with the work that L had given to him. He decides to respond in a way that he doesn't know the writing as if he isn't thinking that Light is Kira. "Well it looks like they might have shared it." He confirms to Aizawa only turning enough to look to him. He can see the sympathy in his eyes since Light wont see it. "Though I don't know who the writing belongs to."

"That is okay." Aizawa takes the paper as Soichiro hands it to him. "Thank you for at least confirming what I had been thinking." He heads away after that and Soichiro turns back to the work he had been pretending to do.

After all everyone is just pretending to do work as if they have no idea who Kira is.

After a full day of work they all head to bed for the night.

Soichiro leaving first saying that he is feeling pretty tired, which isn't a lie. He had hardly gotten any sleep after hearing the news from L. He lays in bed and despite how exhausted he finds that he is unable to fall asleep right away. His mind brings up the memory of finding out that Light is Kira. He also remembers how the second Kira is actually L's spy. He still finds himself surprised that such a thing had happened. He lets the thoughts swirl around in his head until exhaustion manages to win so he falls asleep.

In the meantime Misa is sitting in the living room of her hotel room on the couch. She is looking at her phone as there is a message from Light on there.

We will need to move quickly. These first few days will be when they are mostly distracted by having their hands on a Death note. Here is what I want to do. We will spread the whole support of Kira. I want you to make sure that you share on the media, social media or in a TV interview we can set up with Demegawa, that you support Kira. If people see that you do so then they are sure to follow along. I also have a plan to try to bring the investigation to a halt. We can make higher ups decide to stop the case making it sound as if they are too scared. Scared for all those that are involved. Then they'll die in a way that would be not suspicious like maybe a Kira supporter shooting him screaming to end any investigation. The first step though is to make Kira a bigger name. I do have a piece hidden in my watch if I need to kill someone quickly. It is the only piece I have on myself at all times so I am not afraid to use it.

Misa knows that she needs to find out a little more before she sends the information to L himself. So she begins to type her response back to Light.

Okay. Why don't we do both? I can schedule an interview with Demegawa myself. I am resourceful enough to do so. I will also figure out the perfect post that will sound like me. Yet in great support of Kira so that it makes others think that it is a good idea to support Kira.

Misa sends it though she doesn't have to wait long before a response comes through from Light.

Alright. I will leave it up to you for now. If things go badly I'll see if I can find a way to make Rem kill L. That'll set things back if it is needed.

Misa's eyes widen at seeing her love's name on there. She takes a breath to calm herself and responds with a simple 'Ok I understand. I'll get started.' She is quick to switch to L sharing their whole conversation with him.

L thanks her then decides to let the team rest for tonight. He will make tomorrow night the time of the meeting.

The next night…

Everyone is gathered in the room though without Misa or Light. The others that aren't L glance to each other knowing what this meeting means. They are all at least glad that so far Light hasn't caught on that they know. The others turn back to L as he speaks.

"Light didn't waste much time. He is planning to take action right away. Action that can hinder the whole thing. So we will need to act tonight." L informs them and gets to his feet and pulls out some police handcuffs. "We need to move tonight as it is the only time that we have before my spy reveals things to deter people from following Kira. If Light sees or hears about it then we all could be in danger if he believes that we know. Not to mention the spy would be dead."

"Alright." Soichiro agrees with a nod of his head. "Let us do this."

So the group head towards the room where Light is sleeping. They all stop outside for a brief moment then L opens the door.

Light gets up out of bed as everyone comes in as he was about to move the covers to go to sleep. He looks around at everyone.

Aizawa and Ide move over and grab his arms with Aizawa taking the watch from Light.

"Hey! What is going on?!" Light tries to demand though he has a sinking feeling in his chest what this is about. He glances to his father to see that he isn't looking right at him but the wall behind him. His eyes go to L who approaches him.

"Light Yagami." L speaks and hands the handcuffs to Ide so Light can be handcuffed. "You are under arrest for all of the deaths caused by Kira." He knows that the other knows that he means for being Kira and doing what he did.

Light looks around to the others about to protest only to realize that they all know that he is indeed Kira. He has no way out of this. He turns to look back to L and lets his eyes go darker by shadows from his hair. He clenches his teeth as he glares at the dark haired man. "How did you figure out that it was me?" He knows that L wouldn't make such a move as this without solid proof that it is him.

"There is more to the investigation than you thought. We had help by a spy of mine who figured out that you were Kira. That is all that you need to know right now." L tells him and Light is taken away to be taken into custody by the police.

Rem becomes worried that Light will figure it out and kill Misa or put a hit on her. So she heads to where Misa is and she stands by her.

Misa turns to her as does Ryuk.

"There is something that I have to do." Rem informs Misa. "To protect you. Though I will be gone. It was nice to work with you."

"You don't have to go." Misa tries to protest though Rem shakes her head.

"It will be alright." Rem pulls out her other Death note and begins writing a name in it.

Light Yagami.

As soon as this is done Light gasps in the back of the car and his eyes widen realizing what is happening. He then slumps causing the car to pull over at seeing this.

Rem turns to dust on leaving her Death note there.

Misa blinks with tears in her eyes. "Goodbye Rem." She mentions sadly. She picks up the Death note and holds it close to her chest. "Thank you for everything."

Months later…

Misa had relinquished her ownership of any Death note as even the Kira team give up the Death note in their hands. She knows that they all did this to let Ryuk leave after Light was officially given a guilty verdict publicly, even though he couldn't be there as he is dead, then Misa even became a huge advocate to go against Kira. She also wasn't afraid to mention that she was a spy pretending to be the second Kira, which she found caused a big impact with people to go against what Light was doing.

Though there are some followers still left people have started to try to make Kira old news as time goes on after the reveal.

Misa is sitting with her boyfriend L in the back of the car and their hands held together between them. She and L had flown in a private plane away from Japan. She looks as they pull up to some large gates and she reads the plate on the wall next to it.

Whammy's house orphanage.

Misa turns surprised and confused to L who smiles to her.

"I wanted you to meet the kids that are working to do good in society. With the highest ones hoping to be my successor." L explains and Misa can't help her face brightening.

Misa does understand that when they decide to have kids that the kids should pick their own path, so it makes sense that those already training to be a successor should be considered for the role.

The two head with Watari following them into the orphanage and the kids there quickly hurry over to say hi.

Misa finds so much excitement to see her and that L had brought her for a visit even though they don't know that they are dating. She isn't holding L's hand. She crouches to be more on their level then notices a trio approach a little closer. She realizes from their looks that they are the ones that are the top three here. She smiles a little more happy that she gets to meet the potential candidates to be the next L.
