Chapter 1: The final battle

Today was a special day in Knothole, more known as one of Freedom Fighters hubs.

Miles "Tails" Prower, the second youngest comrade of theirs, will be promoted to a commander!

He earned this rank for his bravery on the battlefield and civilians he saved during the last battle with Eggman, he had some extra training with Sonic and was able to improve his fighting skills. Tails always looked up to Sonic and wanted to be like him, he considered him his big brother not only because of his encouragement but because Sonic saved his life when he was a kid. Tails was born on the day Eggman attacked, he never knew his parents so he spent 8 years by himself, when he was born a nuclear radiation caused him to mutate into a two-tailed fox. Because of that he was bullied by forest creatures until Sonic found him one day, beat up the bullies and gave Tails a helping hand, from then the two of them formed a brotherly bond that would last for life.

"Congrats, commander!" Knuckles said as he slammed his palm into Tails's back, Tails turned to him and smiled

The party was being held at his workshop, they cleaned it up so there was more space for the friends to assemble. There were various foods on the table, varying from sandwiches to hot dogs, from drinks there were water and chaos cola. The party was ready to start.

There were a lot of people such as Knuckles, the Chaotix Agency, Cream, Amy, and even Shadow. Rouge was absent due to being on a GUN mission, there were even Freedom Fighters like Sally, Bunnie and Antoine. Rotor died in the last fight when Eggman launched his missile at the tech support team, Rotor threw Tails out of the way but unfortunately the missile hit him directly as Tails watched in horror from the distance. He had a majestic funeral. Mighty the Armadillo and Ray also died 6 months ago due to being poisoned by Eggman's scorpio machine, it was a huge Scorpion robot that Eggman was in. Just like a scorpion it had a poison sting that unfortunately scratched both Mighty and Ray which was enough to kill them in 3 days. Before the party they went to their graves to pay respects, even though Mighty and Ray were not in Freedom Fighters most of them knew them.

They were partying until a knock on the door was heard, Tails went to the door and opened it only to see Sonic standing there leaning against a pole.

"Hey buddy, sorry I'm late. I had a mission to take care of and it couldn't be delayed"

"It's okay bro, come in" Tails greeted him

Sonic came in and greeted everyone

"Okay now that everyone is here I think we can start!" Sally said

"You bet babe!" Sonic said, it was widely known that Sally and Sonic are together but that wasn't a surprise since both of them were very similar in more than one ways. Both of them were rooting for freedom and justice, both of them were upbeat etc.

"We also brought you some gifts Tails, I hope you will like them!" Amy said as she gave the fox a new attachment to his arm cannon, it was a charge shot. Tails opened a hole in his arm cannon and put the chip in and went outside, he shot a regular ball of energy in the distance, that created a small explosion of 1 meter in each way. Then he charged again but kept charging it for 5 seconds before he launched a bigger ball of energy that created an explosion of 5 meter radius, after that he charged it again for 10 seconds this time and launched a big ball of energy that landed in the distance and created a big explosion of 10 meter radius. Tails was amazed by this new attachment as he tried to charge it again for 15 seconds but it seemed like it's limit is a level 3 energy ball, he shot the blast in the sky where it exploded creating a nice firework actually.

"Well, if it isn't a more fitting time for fireworks!" Sonic joked which caused everyone to laugh

Tails turned to Amy "Thanks Amy! This is really cool! Where did you find it?"

"I found it in the laboratory of late Rotor, by the blueprints I saw that he wanted to give the chip to his new fighting robot, but I also found a note that said if he does not come back that we can take the chip and give it to Tails"

Tails nooded seriously, he knew that with this gift he will never allow anyone to die again as the unpleasant memory of Rotor's death played in his mind

"I also have something for you tails!" Bunnie said which caused Tails to snap out of his thoughts

"This is also something I also found at Rotor's lab so I thought you might need this as a new commander" she handed him a new chip that Tails immediately installed in his arm cannon. When he activated the chip it turned out to be a laser sword! The laser blade was stretched out of the blaster to form a sword that was twice as long as his arm! Everyone looked at him curiously, Tails went out to test his new sword by cutting a tree, with one slash he cut the tree in two. He went back inside and thanked Bunnie, Cream gave him some steel dummy rings as weapons, Shadow gave him some money and so did Antoine while Knuckles gave him

"What did you bring Mr. Sonic?" Cream asked Sonic causing everyone in the room to look at the blue hedgehog

Sonic facepalmed as he remembered he forgot

"Ohhh shit, sorry Tails I completely forgot about that. Sally was definitely riding my back this week"

Sonic looked at her and winked signing that he didn't mean any harm in that sentence

Sally couldn't help but smile

"Well, you are just irreplaceable Sonic, without you Freedom Fighters would be just as half as strong so I don't have much choice"

"Relax Sonic, for me, you being here is more than enough"

Everyone was amazed by the fox's humbleness

This caused Sonic to smile

"Thanks lil bro, I appreciate it. Anyway, since we're all here how about we get this party started?" Sonic stated

Everyone agreed and that's when the feast started

However, they didn't know that in 2 days their fight against Eggman will change their lives forever

When everyone woke up they were still at Tails's house, after waking up completely they were able to remember everything correctly. Shadow remembered that Knuckles drank a lot of Chaos Soda causing him to become dunce, it was actually similar as it would be if he drank alcohol. Since Chaos Soda contains caffeine, Knuckles became hyperactive last night causing him to run out and repeatedly punch trees In the forest. He managed to send one of the trees towards Tails's house which almost hit it actually but Sonic with his homing attacks and superspeed was able to prevent the tree from breaking through the roof.

Then he rushed and punched Knuckles in the face and called him an Knucklehead idiot, Knuckles realized that he almost destroyed the house and therefore apologized

Sonic, being a daredevil hedgehog he was, drank 6 beers together with Sally. 5 out of them were toasts for Tails's promotion, then he and Sally started making out and ended up in a bedroom, no one saw them for the rest of the evening. Bunnie and Antoine were also making out while Amy, Cream and Tails talked. Shadow was outside keeping guard since he was always a loner and had nothing better to do. The Chaotix had to leave early because there was a mission for them that broke out.

Sonic and Sally woke up in the bed with Sally hugging sonic, they were both mostly covered with a sheet, Bunnie and Antoine weren't having sex but became an item. Tails and Amy were completely normal looking while Knuckles was sleeping on the roof, no one knows how he made it there while shadow was sleeping on the grass in front of the house.

"Good morning Sal, how did you sleep?" Sonic asked

"Pretty good, especially while you were near me Sonic" Sally said as she hugged him again

"Yeah, last night sure was a blast" Sonic stated

"I love you Sonic" Sally said

"I love you too Sally" Sonic kissed her in the hair

"Thank god no one attacked us last night, otherwise the only one who could have possibly fought would be me" He turned to Knuckles as he approached him

"Hey knuckles, wake up" Shadow shook him a bit

"Uuuugh, hey Shadow, what happened?"

"The party is over and pretty much everyone is a mess" Shadow replied

"Man, that party was so insane that it's weird how are we still in one piece" Knuckles said as he stood up

"What's up with Tails and the rest of guests?"

"Come with me and find out" Shadow said

"Morning guys" Knuckles entered the house first

"Hey Knuckles!" Tails, Cream and Amy replied and were the only ones fully awake and sober

"Where's Sonic?" Shadow asked

"He is with Sally" Bunnie said as she got in the living room with Antoine

Knuckles smirked "Like it takes a genius to figure out what happened last night, especially knowing Sonic"

"Good morning everyone" Sally came down the stairs together with Sonic

"You guys just had to get wasted" Shadow stated

"Well, the promotion to commander is not an everyday thing y'know" Sonic replied and laughed

"Congrats again Tails, and thanks for the party"

"Don't mention it" Tails smiled at him

Later on when everyone got sober and serious they talked about the final fight that would occur tomorrow, they got some information from Rouge and Omega that Eggman spent last 2 months making the most strongest and dangerous machine they had ever seen. They managed to snatch the copy of the blueprints, but what shocked them the most Is what was he planning to do with the machine, he was planning to destroy the whole city with it and wipe out most of the population! They knew Eggman was evil and that he robotized Mobians but they never knew he would go as insane as to kill innocent people. This time they knew they had to stop him for good.

Tails was training with his new charge shot and laser sword while Sonic ran around Mobius and was training his speed, Knuckles also trained while Sally and Bunnie were in the training room in Knothole. Shadow, Rouge and Omega were training as a team. In the evening Tails found sonic laying at a stone, "Hey Sonic, do you think the tommorow's battle would turn out alright? Eggman is far more dangerous than ever before" Tails asked worriedly. "You worry too much Tails, I will defeat him like I always did, I faced much more dangerous enemies after all. Also after all these fights I had with Eggman I am almost certain how will they end, that's because I learned all of his personality and tactics, I know which trick he's gonna pull next. I will protect you guys no matter what". This response caused a smile to appear on Tails's face, "Yeah, I know you will be able to do it bro, just please be careful", Sonic smiled "Don't worry buddy, I will", Tails then asked "You wanna sleep at my house? You might catch a cold here", Sonic noticed the air was actually getting a bit chilly due to the nighttime. "Okay then, let's go!" Both of them ran off towards his house

Tommorow at noon Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Shadow and Omega were standing at the borders of Mobotropolis, they were waiting for Eggman's arrival and were making tactics on how to take him down. Even though they had blueprints it was unknown how it looks like in sight so they weren't sure if he had added some new improvements to the robot so they had to be very careful either way.

Then in the distance Knuckles was able to see Eggman approaching with his new machine, when he got closer they were able to figure it out, what they saw left them in shock.

Eggman was riding a huge human-looking robot that was the same size as a building, It had robotic arms and legs and a human-looking body, it's head was egg-shaped and in the spot where eyes were supposed to be was one big hole with hardened glass in the middle and there was Eggman, sitting at the command center. It's color was white and it seemed like it was made of harder metal than it was before. They also noticed there were wings on his back with jet holes, so the thing was able to fly and make a getaway if things get out of control.

"This time Sonic, I will not fail! You will all be crushed beneath my feet!" Eggman proclaimed as he proceeded to activate his arm weaponry, he spread the robot's palm and it revealed the fingers as laser blasters. "When will you ever learn Eggman?" Sonic sighed as he alerted the others to prepare for battle, Eggman pointed the robots finger towards them and fired a laser beam, they were able to escape the beam as it exploded when it made contact with the ground creating a big blast. Sonic and the crew were very surprised by this and realized Rouge wasn't kidding when she said this robot is the toughest one Eggman had ever made, Sonic didn't have much time to think as another laser shot was coming for him, luckily he made a homing dash evading the shot and watched as it went into the distance and exploded.

"Whoa, if I didn't evade that one I would be more fried than barbeque" Sonic thought

The rest of his friends got down to earth and charged towards Eggman, but they now had to evade bullets that the robot kept firing from his finger on other hand which now fired it at a faster rate than a machine gun. Amy was almost hit with bullets but Knuckles got in front of her on time and punched the ground causing a rock to pop out which worked like a shield, it successfully stopped all the bullets.

Amy opened her mouth to thank him but Knuckles stopped her "No need to thank me Amy, you're my friend after all" He then punched the stone which flew with great force towards Eggman's arm, it successfully hit the machine gun preventing it from fire for another 15 seconds which was enough for the echidna to get close, hop on the robot and climb it while punching it repeatedly till the head. However he realized that the metal from this robot was made was harder and more quality than the previous robots because Knuckles wasn't able to break through with his punch, however it did leave dents. However when he was reaching it's heck he saw the robot's palm going straight to him he managed to jump just in time before he could get crushed by the robot's hand, however as knuckles was gliding through the air he didn't se the fist coming straight towards him from the back, he barely had the time to turn and guard himself from the mechanic fist. However even though he managed to save himself from taking full direct damage he was sent flying, he began falling to the ground but luckily was caught by Tails who propelled himself with his 2 tails in the air, luckily he noticed this in time and was able to catch Knuckles before he hit the ground, otherwise it would have ended up fatal for the Echidna.

"Thanks Tails" Knuckles said but then felt an excruciating pain as he threw up blood

This shocked Tails as they quickly descended to the ground

"Knuckles, what happened? Are you ok?" Tails managed to see that the fist actually managed to do some damage to Knuckles torso and ribcage

Knuckles, with 2 trails of blood on each side of his mouth said: "Yeah, that did hurt me though. Don't worry, I can still fight!" He got in his fighting stance again and was about to rush towards Eggman again but the same pain stopped him again as he fell to his knees. "H-Hey Knux, take it easy now. I think you should take a break"

Knuckles, who was very hard-headed realized the kitsune was right and decided to back down for a while. Tails was glad the echidna listened to him as he once again used his tails to fly up in the air and began charging his arm blaster, he sent a few charged shots that exploded on contact with the robot actually causing it some damage and it caught Eggman's attention, he was surprised to see the fox actually causing some damage to the robot due to the fact he knew that Tails was one of the weaker members of Sonic's crew.

Just when Tails began charging another shot he had to avoid missiles that Eggman fired towards him, luckily with his flight he managed to avoid the most of them, the last one almost hit him but he activated his light sword and managed to cut it in half before it hit him. He charged the shot and he was about to fire until a blue light passed above him, the light was so strong it blinded him for a second until he realized it was Sonic, this caused Tails to lose his focus and discharged the blaster he looked curiously at him as Sonic was flying towards the robot's head. Eggman was panicking by now and tried to shoot him down by shooting a huge laser from the robot's huge glass eye but Sonic clashed with the laser beam and after a few minutes of struggling managed to overpower it and land a direct blow to the Robot's weak spot, it was super effective as the robot survived some short circuits and began falling, there were even some cracks on the glass eye. Sonic thought that he won but the robot stood on one leg and got up, what Sonic didn't notice was that the robot was charging a beam on his palm and was about to fire it at Sonic. Sonic was tired from the light speed attack and wasn't able to move in the air anymore, "Shit!" he thought before Tails grabbed him and pulled him and himself to the other side as Eggman fired another huge laser beam in the sky.

"Tails! Thanks buddy, you saved my life!" Sonic said gratefully

"Don't mention it Sonic, I couldn't just leave you there to die could I?" Tails said as he smiled at Sonic while they both descended

"What's up with others?" Sonic looked around

"Well, Knuckles got hit by the robot's fist, luckily it's not a direct hit but he is injured so it will take some time to fully recover, as for team dark and Amy they are currently fighting the robot. Shadow managed to provide us some analysis about the robot and said something you managed to figure out before him and that was the fact the glass eye is his weakness. I managed to spread the info through my communicator so everyone including you got the message, however even if he focus all our attacks towards the glass eye it is a very risky action because Eggman has a lot of weapons in robot's hands and can even fire huge laser beams through the glass eye so we need to be very careful. We also need any help we can get, Sonic can you fight now?"

Sonic listened very carefully, then he responded "Yeah, through this attack tired me a bit I will be back at my full power in 30 secs or so. I also contacted Sally and Bunnie, they should soon arrive with reinforcements. Tails, we must protect Mobotropolis at all costs! There are many innocent people that live there and I will do anything to protect them and you guys!" Sonic was very serious while saying that, Tails noticed that

"You're right and we will, just like we always do bro" Then the two of them brofisted and ran towards Eggman to help Shadow's team and Amy

Shadow was shooting chaos spears towards the robot's glass eye but Eggman managed to block all the shots with a shield he activated with his palm, that was another feature Sonic and his friends didn't know which just made the battle harder for them. Then he saw Eggman priming another laser towards Rouge and Omega so he used Chaos Control to stop time and get there to pull out of the way, it was successful as Eggman missed them. Rouge then caught Shadow and Omega and lifted them up in the air, she managed to shoot Shadow curled up in the ball towards Eggman and it hit the glass causing some damage to the robot, then Omega flew towards the robot in attempt to land a punch to the eye but Eggman blocked the punch, Omega expected this as he bounced off and activated his missiles and shot a few towards the eye. They managed to hit the robot, then Eggman noticed they weren't some ordinary missiles and that they contained smoke in them in order to prevent him from seeing them.

Rouge charged at him somewhere from the smoke and started kicking the glass repeadetly, she kicked it twelve times until she performed a strong Angel Eagle kick which caused the robot's head to be blown back, however the robot recovered quickly as he activated it's machine gun and started shooting Rouge. The bat tried her best to avoid the bullets and she did for 20 seconds, however she was hit with a few bullets causing her to scream and pain and begin falling towards the ground. This alerted Shadow

"ROUGE!" he shouted as he teleported right below her to stop her from falling to her death. When they got to the ground Shadow looked at where the bullet hit her, he thanked god it was nowhere serious. Two of the bullets hit her wings preventing her from flight, 3 of them hit her in the legs and one hit her in the arm. "Thanks Shadow, but I don't think I will be able to fight for a while" Rouge proclaimed, "Yeah, I think so too so just stay low" Shadow told her.

Sonic and Tails saw this behind a tree as Sonic proceeded to activate his communicator

"Sally, please tell me you're close. Two of our friends are already hurt, we need backup immediately!" Sonic said

Sally from the other side was shocked to hear that, from then she knew that Eggman is more dangerous than ever and he needs to be stopped immediately. "Don't worry Sonic, I'll be there in a few minutes. I'm so sorry I can't make it sooner, please tell everyone to hold their own for just a little longer!", "Don't worry Sal, I will not allow anyone to get hurt anymore! See you soon" with that the connection stopped and Sally turned towards Bunnie and Antoine who were right behind her. "What's up Sally?" Bunnie asked, "We have to get there immediately, we already have 2 people hurt!" Sally said worriedly, "Oh my god!" Bunnie said, "Don't worry Bunnie, with my nerves of steel and bravery we shall put a stop to Eggman's tirrany for good!" Antoine said in his usual formal voice "Well, let's hope so!" Bunnie responded as they kept running towards the battlefield. On their way they met Knuckles who was running towards them, Sally managed to see that he really was wounded because he was holding his hand on his ribcage.

"Knuckles! Are you alright?" Sally asked him, Knuckles got closer to her as he said "Don't worry, I did suffer some direct damage but it's nothing life-threatening", then he fell on his knees again due to the pain. "You can't fight like this Knux, Antoine you treat Knuckles wounds. Me and Bunnie will go to the battlefield, the medics are right behind you so tell them what happened." "Affirmative Madam" Antoine said as the two freedom fighters rushed to where Sonic directed them

On the battlefield Shadow was carrying wounded Rouge, Omega also managed to strike the robot's eye a few times before he also hat to evade lasers the robot fired towards him. He got hit by one but managed to protect himself so he didn't receive nothing critical, he descended to the ground where the rest of his friends were. Shadow was glad Omega was alright but soon changed as Tails looked up and saw the robot's foot coming straight towards them. Shadow had just enough energy for one more time stopping as he activated Chaos Control which had stopped time for 10 seconds, luckily all of them managed to escape but were hit by the wind force causing some of them to be blown away but not for a long distance

"Now I see" Sonic said "Eggman's madness finally reached it's peak. He is not fighting to defeat us anymore, he is willing to kill us!"

Hey guys, I decided to start working on a new story aside from alternate sides (it even rhymes). So this was actually the longest chapter I ever wrote, I wanted to show Sonic in a more realistic world than it was implied in games and Archie comics. You're probably asking how do I plan that, well you will have to wait for the next chapter to find out. Until then, see ya
