Madeline: If you believe, you must be big, in order to be tough,
Then you should get to know me, I'll teach you other stuff.
I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
I may be very small,
I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
But inside, I'm tall.
Other 12 girls: She may be teeny tiny,
Diminutive petite,
But that has never stopped her,
From being pretty neat!
Dum dee dum dee dum,
Dum, dee dum dee dum,
Madeline,
Madeline!
She's Madeline, she's Madeline,
We hope you have it straight.
Madeline: I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
And inside, I'm great!
Riley&Madeline The New House"
Narrated by Christopher Plummer
It's a rainy day in Paris.
...
In an old house in Paris, that was covered with vines, lived 13 little girls in two straight lines. They left the house at half past nine, in two straight lines- in rain or shine. The older twin was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline
Miss Clavel Caught both girls "Phew"
Wind gusts from the storm blew the window shatter, and dropped to the floor.
Genevieve drags Miss Clavel to avoid the falling window shatter.
Danielle said "C'est Terrible"
Lord Cucuface said "Terrible indeed"
Miss Clavel said "Lord Cucuface what a surprise"
Lord Cucuface "hmm"
Miss Clavel said "It is a old shatter that need's fixing, you brought guests."
Lord Cucuface said "Yes, may I present Madame Baguette, and Madam Formage from the Historical Society's. They had come to tour this Old House."
All Girls: "Bonjour"
Madame Baguette said "What darling little girls"
Lord Cucuface said "Please do come in"
Miss Clavel said "Oui Oui Certainment"
Madame Formage said "Oh how conger"
Madame Baguette said ''Oui, oh how charming"
Lord Cucuface said 'Excuse Moi Madames, but this is not the kitchen. Must we have all these pots and pans?"
Madame Baguette said "Ah but every old house has a drips or two n'est-ce pas?"
Narrator: Then the visit turned into disaster staring with a piece of plaster.
Lord Cucuface said "A thunder! Pardon my Madame please say you are alright?"
Madame Baguette "Ah oui oui nothing to worry about"
Lord Cucuface said "Come ladies I think we should put this off for another day"
Madame Baguette said "Nonsense we came to see the house''
Narrator: The Madame's ignored his Lordships advice, and were not Impressed with mices 'these' Riley and Madeline say they were nice"
Lord Cucuface said "There! Shoo shoo shoo shoo go away!"
Madame Formage said "Oh dear''
Madame Baguette said "Let him rest, why we'll see the upstairs"
Narrator: But the tour continued not so well when Madame Baguette slid down and fell.
Miss Clavel "Oh dear oh dear!"
Narrator: Cried Miss Clavel, then Lord Cucuface announced the selling of the house he thought unfit for dwelt.
Lord cucuface said "We must find these girls a more suitable place to live"
All the Girls "What"
Madeline said "We can't leave our dear old house"
Miss Clavel said "I am sure a few nails, and roof tiles"
Lord Cucuface said "I have made up my mind, start packing Miss Clavel this house is too old and too dangerous"
Riley said "But we love our house"
Nicole said "Well we were go"
Lord Cucuface said "Don't not worry, there is a lovely apartment above mine where you can stay until I find you a new house"
Madame Baguette said "But Lord Cucuface we have not seen the Salon or the Parlor or the?"
Lord Cucuface said "Really Madame you have seen quite enough"
Narrator: Lord Cucuface had made up his mind leaving thirteen sad girls, and their dog behind.
Miss Clavel said "Come Mes Petites we have better start packing"
Narrator: Moving is tiresome, moving is hard, they piled up everything they own in the yard. They pack their clothes, books, and all, and said 'good bye' to the mice in the hall.
Madeline said "Goodbye Mr. Mice!'' as tears fall from her eyes.
Riley said "Maddie please, we have each other come on"
Narrator: But the hardest farewell they had in store was to Steven and Pepito, their friends next door.
Pepito said "So it is true, you are moving"
As the thirteen girls shead tears.
Madeline "Oui Pepito it is true"
Steven said "Far far away like to London?"
Riley said "No just across town"
Pepito said "Then we will come and visit"
Madeline said "You will?"
Steven said "Si and we can write everyday. Please give us your address."
Riley said "May Oui everyday, here boys"
Miss Clavel said "Riley! Madeline!"
Narrator: The moment had come, and no one was glad with Riley and Madeline feeling especially sad.
All girls "Au revoir, Pepito and Steven!"
Pepito said "Good bye girls!"
Steven said "Hasta luego Riley and Madeline"
Narrator: As the taxis departed in one sad straight line, Lord Cucuface put up a House 'condemned' sign.
Steven said "Danger house condemned. Do not enter?"
Pepito said "Ay ay! He is going to tear down the old house, we will never see our friends again for us now Steven"
Steven said "Pepito calm down, I have a plan"
Narrator: In the meantime, the taxis all drove though the city to a street where the house was square, and not pretty.
Danielle said "Is this where we are to live?"
Miss Clavel said "Remember little girls it is always hard to move"
Riley said ''Oh dear look at all these rules"
Miss Clavel said "because things are different does not mean they are bad Riley"
Madeline said "But Miss Clavel it says no barking dogs allowed"
Nicole said "Genevieve Marie isn't a dog. She is Genevieve"
Narrator: But that sight was no more, then the first induction that the flat would not live up to there exception, at night they tried to break their bread.
Madeline said "Riley you are on my side"
Riley said "No I am not Maddie, you are on mine"
Girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all -we love"
Narrator: And tried to brush their teeth.
Chloe said "There is not enough room"
Riley said "I can't brush my teeth"
Narrator: And go to bed.
All the girls said "Cots"
Riley said "Maddie is it too late to call Aunt Kathy?"
Madeline said ''Riley go to Sleep"
Narrator: But there was more to complain about the kitchen, which made Ms. Murphy pout.
Madeline said "Bonjour Little Mice, Bonjour"
Mice sticks out his tongue.
Madeline said "Well!"
Narrator: And the mice made Madeline want to shout.
Riley said "Catch Geveneine Marie"
Narrator: And for a dog life could be hard, without a grassy large backyard.
Madeline said "This place is terrible"
Nicole said "I hate it"
Chloe said "How can we live here?!"
Danielle said "I want to go home"
Riley said "Miss Clavel does Aunt Kathy know we moved?"
Ms Murphy said "What an impossible kitchen!"
Miss Clavel said "Please please s'il te plaƮt this is our home now, and we should be thankful to be here together"
Miss Clavel
Home is not about large, Home is not about small.
Home isn't the color of paint on the wall.
Home is not about old,
Home is not about new.
Home is having the ones you love close to you.
Miss Clavel and Girls
Home is where the heart is,
the heart is, the heart is.
Home is where the heart is,
if your heart is there, it's home.
Miss Clavel
Home is not about rich,
Home is not about poor.
Home isn't the carpet you put on the floor.
You don't need a marble staircase in each room.
You just need a clean place to hum a nice tune.
Miss Clavel and Girls
Home is where the heart is,
the heart, the heart is
Home is where the heart is,
if your heart is there
It's home.
Home is where the heart is,
the heart is,
the heart is.
Home is where the heart is,
if your heart is there, if your heart is there
That's home.
Miss Clavel said "Enough work let us go for a walk, my my my look at the time!"
Narrator: There was no bell to troll, the time so they missed their walk at half pass nine instead they left at ten till three to find a park, and climbed a tree but things did not go as expected with a truck, and Genevieve almost connation, and the park was really quite neglected.
Lady said "Get down from there!"
Man said "That noise!"
lady said "Stop it, are you responsible for these horrid childen?"
Miss Clavel said "Madam I am sorry if the little girls are bothering you, they are only being little girls. Come mes enfants we will find another park"
Chloe said "Let us go somewhere else"
Nicole said "Oui where there are swings!"
Danielle said "And merry go rounds"
Madeline said "And friendly people"
Genevieve growls.
Man said "Ah dog! I hate dogs!"
Narrator: So they went back home to the balcony to play, but were in for another shock late that day.
Madeline said "Excuse moi s'il vous plait, could we have our ball back?"
Man said "You horrible childen! When did you move in here?"
Genevieve barked, and growled as the man threw the ball back.
Lady said "What is that awful racket? 'Gasp' this can't be, there must be a rule about too many noisy little girls! Two little girls, there is a rule that no twins can be in the same householder!"
Miss Clavel hanged the picture of the girls meeting one another, and Riley and Madeline's first day at the old house.
Nicole said "Miss Clavel Miss Clavel?"
Danielle said "That snooty woman from the park!"
Chloe said and "The grouchy man?"
Miss Clavel said "Oui what about them?"
All the girls said "They are neighbors!"
Miss Clavel said "Oh dear"
Riley said "I know we will have them for tea"
Madeline said "Oui then they will see we are good neighbors"
Nicole said "Oui what a good idea."
Chloe said "How they can't they not like us?"
Riley said "Yes that's true"
Narrator: The next day at four, the girls give a tea there china was shiny with bright fleur - de- lis.
''Mrs. Murphy would you care for a biscuit perhaps a pastry?"
Genevieve came with a napkin.
Man said "You let the dog touch your linens? Disgusting, a house inflection surely."
Genevieve whimpered.
Riley said "Shush Genevieve Marie, He is very rude"
Lady "Ah ah! A flea! A flea in the food? that is it, I am leaving before I am poisoned!"
Miss Clavel said "Wait it is an almond look?"
Narrator: They knew their tea had not gone right when each, and every gust took flight poor Genevieve was most contrust.
Madeline said "It is not your fault Genevieve Marie, they are horrid neighbors.''
Riley said "Maddie is right Genevieve Marie, you are the best dog."
Chloe said "Why are they so mean to Genevieve?"
Nicole said "She is such a wonderful dog."
Meanwhile in the office.
The manager Shelly said "Hmm thirteen little girls, and a dog are you sure?"
Lady said "Yes, there are two twin girls living under the same roof"
Shelly said "That won't do, I just spoke to the housekeeper Ms. Murphy about it a hour ago, and she assured that the girls aunt will be call once she talked with their teacher about it."
"But we can't wait any longer, serve them the papers please"
Back at the door.
Miss Clavel said "Now who could that be? What is this? What are all these signatures?"
Lady said "Everyone in the building has assign this petition requesting that.."
Man said "The girls must be absolutely slient.''
Lady said "And that dangerous menace must go, and the manager Shelly. Send this paper also requesting that the twins be split up, no two twins can be under the same roof. Your housekeeper, she knows about it."
Ms. Murphy said "She is right Miss Clavel, I hate to do this but Riley and Madeline must be apart. I already called Kathy's Office, and she will be around at 5 pm to pick Riley up, please pack Riley, it's just for right now alright?"
Riley said "Oui Ms. Murphy"
Miss Clavel said "Whoa oh no"
Madeline said "It is from Pepito and Steven, Riley come back here now please"
Riley said "Maddie what happened? No Lord Cucuface can't!"
Nicole said "What does it say?"
Nicole said "Tell us girls"
Madeline said "They are tearing down our Old House, then for me, and Madeline we'll never see each other again."
Narrator: But Steven and Pepito's news was at last sadly true, the Old house they called home would meet the wreckage crew.
All the girls cried ''This is horrible, how can they tear down our old house?"
Madeline said "I guess this is goodbye Riley?"
Kathy said "Madeline please, you will still see Riley again I promise you that"
Riley said "But Aunt Kathy me, and Madeline are always together! Why must we be apart?"
Kathy said "Riley please come I have to make dinner when we get home"
Riley said "See you soon Maddie, take Care of Genevieve Marie alright? And Chloe please keep an eye on Maddie."
Chloe said ''I will Riley don't worry"
Miss Clavel said "Little girls, I know you are sad about our poor Old House. Let us go for a walk, maybe it will help us feel better."
Narrator: In two straight lines they prayed to stall that horrid dredging wrecking ball.
Danielle's image used a slingshot.
Chloe's image was driving away with the Old House.
Genevieve's image was digging dirt.
Narrator: The place that would restore their calm was the Cathedral Notre Dame.
Chloe said "Madeline! Madeline look it is Notre Dame"
Madeline said "Oui I see but why it is covered with scaffolding?"
Miss clavel said "It is so old that they must fix all the time so it can remain beautiful."
Nicole said "How Neat"
Chloe said "It is beautiful"
Danielle said "Look the Lady from the Historical Society."
Narrator: See those ladies with there hairs all blue give Madeline a notional of what they could do, and get Riley back with them quickly"
Madeline said "Of course"
Danielle said "What Madeline?"
Chloe said ''What is it?"
Madeline said "Miss Clavel! Miss Clavel! She whispered the plan."
Miss Clavel said "Me oui, a brilliant idea Madeline"
Narrator: Back at the Old House, the clock, the ticking as the workman prepared the dear maison for wrecking.
Steven said "No stop! This a mistake."
Pepito said "You have the wrong house, we are sure of it!"
Hannah said "Pepito? Steven?"
Pepito said "Mama, Mama, Mama! We must stop them! We must!"
As Hannah picked the two boys up.
Steven said "Stop! You must not do this por favor! Please please listen!"
Lord Cucuface opened the door "Stop!"
Narrator: The cane operation felt very befuddled when he saw all the collection of folk in a huddle.
Lord Cucuface "The good ladies of the Historical Society have made me see the value of this old house; we should not destroy it, we should restore it."
All the girls said "Yay"
Riley said "So me, and Madeline can stay together Lord Cucuface?"
Lord Cucuface said "Yes you two can girls, I knew I forgot something the first time. Sorry about all the trouble Kathy."
Kathy said "None taken Lord Cucuface."
Narrator: And to add to the confusion, Madame produced a resolution.
Madame Formage read "We designate this old house an historic site of Paris."
Narrator: Because of Madeline's persistence, and the lady's fine assistance, their dear old house would stay in existence.
Miss Clavel said "We still have quite a lot of work to do, do we not?"
Madame Baguette said "Quite right Miss Clavel, quite right as she whistled."
Narrator: A twist of the screwdriver, tighten the knob, then a few squirts of oil finished the job. Then they fixed the pipes that leaked, and the many stairs that squeaked, while their smallest helper peeked."
Back at Aunt Kathy's House.
Riley said "Maddie come here look what I found, a book that say 'Mommy'."
Madeline said "Open it Riley, please."
Kathy said "Girls please play the card game."
Madeline said "Oui Aunt Kathy."
Riley said "Yes come on Maddie."
Kathy close her bedroom door.
Little girls
Little girls
Everywhere I turn I can see them.
Little girls
Little girls
Night and day
I eat, sleep and breathe them.
I'm an ordinary woman
With feelings
I'd like a man to nibble on my ear.
But I'll admit
No man has bit
So how come I'm the mother of the year?
How I hate
Little shoes
Little socks
And each little bloomer
I'd have cracked
Years ago
If it weren't for my
Sense of humor.
Some women are dripping with diamonds
Some women are dripping with pearls
Lucky me! Lucky me!
Look at what I'm dripping with
Little girls.
Little cheeks
Little teeth
Everything around me is little.
If I wring
Little necks
Surely I will get an acquittal.
Some day
I'll step on their freckles
Some night
I'll straighten their curls
Send a flood
Send the flu
Anything that You can do
To little little little
Little, little, little.
Little, little, little.
Little Girls.
As she poured her drink into the tube "Oh Paul you just wasn't fast enough" as she threw his picture into the tube.
Some day I'll land in the nut house laugher
With all the nuts and the squirrels tee hee tee hee
There I'll stay
Tucked away
Until the prohibition of
little girls.
Narrator: Finally it was the day they could move back in, horray!
Riley said "It is beautiful."
Madame Baguette said "It's magnifier, and it is all thanks to you Madeline."
Madame Formage said "If you had not warned us that this house was in danger, it would now be a heap of rubble."
Lord Cucuface said "It is fabulous, it is better then I had imaged. I have an surprise, I am thinking of buying it. It is a beautifully old house, and I am tired of my apartment and my neighbor."
Danielle said "Oui"
Madeline said "Very nice"
Chloe said 'Lovely"
Nicole said "Merveilleuse"
Riley said "We we'll help you fix it."
Lord Cucuface said "Yes, it will be magnifier just like this old house"
Narrator: And then at last they broken their breads.
Girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all -we love each other and our old House"
Miss Clavel said "Oh little girls, a house is only a house but with all of you here it is truly a home."
Narrator: And brushed their teeth, and went to bed.
Miss Clavel said "Good night mes petites, I know you will sleep well tonight.''
All the girls "Good night, good night Dear Miss Clavel.''
Narrator: They dreamed of what they would next restore, and that's all there is, there isn't anymore.
