Riley and Madeline & The Soccer Star

In an old house in Paris, that was covered with vines, lived 13 little girls in two straight lines.

The older twin was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline

They left the house at half passed nine, off to play Soccer.

In two straight lines while Miss Clavel tended the vines.

Miss Clavel said "Play well mes cheries, I am sorry I cannot go with you. I must take care of my Vegetable garden."

All girls "Au revoir Miss Clavel!"

Nicole said "Good bye!"

Chloe said "Good luck with cabbages and onion."

Nicole said "Hello"

Steven said "Hola"

All the girls "Bonjour"

Pepito said "Hola Madeline"

Narrator: Their Soccer team was called "Le Tigres." It was one of the best in all school leads, they practice each day from morinng till dark. Pepito and Steven's father their coach, led the team to the park.

Riley said "Come Steven let us plan our strategy."

Steven said "I hear we we are playing 'Le Tigres versus Les Rois ' in the championship."

Riley said "Do not worry, we Tigres have beat them twice."

Madeline said "Riley is right."

Steven said "But they have beat us twice."

Riley said "Do not worry Steven, four will be our magic number"

Narrator: All of the Tigers could do with kick and throw far, but the oldest team player was there bigger star. The Tigers played Soccer with speed, with might, but something was missing. Something was not right.

Dan said "If only they had a secret weapon, like the perfect pass I had in my youth or maybe a great kick."

Narrator: They practiced, and practiced till they got each play right. They were still in the park by the hours of twilight.

All the girls "Goodbye"

Narrator: At the Old House, Miss Clavel had no cheer cause her garden was quite a disaster this year.

Madeline said "Miss Clavel are you alright?"

Miss Clavel said "Oui Mes Cheries, but look my garden."

Narrator: What could they say about the vegetables she grown, the cabbages were rotten which made the girls Mona

Riley said "It is alright Miss Clavel, we do not like vegetables anyway."

Chloe and Nicole said "That is right, we do not like vegetables."

Miss Clavel "But it is not true, you usually love them. Besides, they are good for you."

Narrator: Then suddenly, Miss Clavel felt very much better. She remembered the arrival of an important letter.

Miss Clavel said "Riley and Madeline I almost forgot, I have something for you two."

Nicole said "Hurry girls!"

Chloe said "Who it is from?"

All eleven girls "We want to see!"

Riley said "It is from our Cousin Andre! He lives on a farm."

Madeline read "Our farm house is very old, so Papa is fixing it. Andre asks if he can stay with us while they are working on his house"

Miss Clavel said "He wanted to come next week, we had better get ready."

Chloe said "What is your cousin like Riley and Madeline?"

Riley said "Well me and Madeline last saw him when me, Maddie, and him were three years old."

Madeline said "Oui, he was very handsome then."

Narrator: That evening, they talked about cousin Andre. Everyone had a little something to say.

Danielle said "He must be very strong."

Chloe said "And tall."

Nicole said "With a fancy horse."

Chloe said "And fine country clothes."

Danielle said "Oui silks, cuff, and a diamond stickpin."

Miss Clavel said "And I bet he will be a big helper with my garden."

Narrator: In two straight lines, the broken their bread.

All the girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all -we love each other."

Narrator: And brushed their teeth, and went to bed. By that time they were convinced that Riley and Madeline's cousin was a prince.

Chloe said "Do you think he had good teeth?"

Nicole said "May oui, and I am sure he's a fabulous dancer."

Danielle said "And he will ask evrey one of us to dance."

Narrator: Late that night the girls fall asleep with visions of Andre instead of white sheep.

In Texas.

Andre said "Uncle Paul you sure Riley and Madeline will remember me? The Last time I saw them was at three years old."

Paul said "I am sure Andre, but no Soccer alright?"

Andre said "But I love Soccer! I am the star of our team here."

Joey said "I know you are son, but we can't risk Riley and Madeline to know about you. Here take this old clothes with you, they should have gotten that letter a week ago."

"Andre try to remember two bright flowers that you know are Riley's and Madeline's favorites. Also, see if they remember these two dolls they used to sleep with; Polly locket with Riley, and Baby Annie with Madeline"

Andre said "Sure."

Maxwell said "Give them two hugs from me please."

Andre said "Maxwell of course I will. I have some made up stories about Papa"

As the plane landed in Paris.

Paul said "Remember Andre no playing Soccer. We are here for one week alright? Now take the cart, and the flowers. I will see you at the Café during my break, be good."

Andre said "Yes Uncle Paul, see you later."

Narrator: Then came the dawn of that exciting day, when who would arrived but the gallant Andre. The girls went out at half pass eight, and then began to wait, and waited, and waited.

Danielle said "Where is he?"

Chloe said "He should have been here long ago."

Miss Clavel said "Be patient mes enfants."

Madeline said "Shh I think I hear something."

Narrator: They ran down the streets, and followed that sound but Andre wasn't there, he just couldn't be found. There was just an old nag who has seen better days hitched to a wagon all loaded with hay, and a top the old wagon was not a Prince with a crown just a scared looking boy from a small county town.

Chloe said "Why did he have to be so late?"

Andre said "Pardon is this Mademoiselle Riley and Madeline's house?"

Riley said "Andre?"

Andre said "Riley and Madeline, here girls these are for you."

Riley said "Hey Andre give me the flowers first."

Madeline said "No Andre, give it to me Riley."

Andre said "Oh boy, Riley and Madeline no fighting!" As he tore the flowers apart. "There happy?"

Madeline smiled.

Riley said "That is better thanks Andre."

Andre said "Boy I forgot how much you two fight if things aren't in two."

Narrator: Andre unpacked a clean shirt, and some socks, a very old jacket, and his two favorite rocks. Riley and Madeline laughed as Andre told stories about his Papa.

Andre said "Riley and Madeline I found something for you that I think you two would remember."

Riley said "Polly locket where did you find her Andre?"

Andre said "Papa was moving things around. Madeline you remember Baby Annie? You would carry her everywhere."

Madeline said "Annie? I wonder where she had wandered off to, thanks Andre"

Riley said "Come come Madeline time for bed. Good night Andre" as the two girls left.

Narrator: But upstairs in the bedroom, the girls were more picky than friendly for Andre was rather well icky.

Nicole said "He is so smelly."

Danielle said "Maybe he has an older brother."

Chloe laughed "One without baggy pants."

Madeline said "I heard that, who cares about his pants he is mine and Riley's cousin, and that is that."

Narrator:

Madeline said "He maybe smell, and very shy, but there's more to that boy than meets the eye."

Danielle laughed "Me oui."

Madeline said "Really you will see."

Nicole said "Madeline at dinner he didn't talk, he was a bumpkin."

All the girls said "Dim dim let Lumpkin."

Madeline throws a pillow.

Narrator: But before the moon came up that night the girls where no longer in a fight.

Nicole said "J'regret Madeline"

Danielle said "We are really sorry."

Madeline said "Oh Andre, my friends will accept you someday I will see to it."

Riley said "What happened in here?"

Chloe said "Just a friendly little pillow fight."

Later that night, Andre said "Good they are asleep, there is the phone" as he called the hotel.

Paul said "Hello Andre how was it?"

Andre said "Uncle Paul this pants that my dad packed made me look smelly, then Madeline when I am tall like Riley. Boy Maxwell was right, Riley and Madeline was already fighting over their flowers, but I had split both flowers into two each; They both smiled, and they seem to take to there dolls really quickly. I had to lie and say that Papa was fine when he was cleaning. They seem to fall for it, but I love Soccer. Can't I just play this once?"

Paul said "Andre no I can't risk my ex wife finding out we are here. We leave on Monday Morning. You give me another letter to send, asking you for help on the house."

Andre said "Okay well Riley and Madeline will meet up with two boys after dinner at 4pm, they are meat lovers, and we had a real dinner in the backyard. Well I will see you tomorrow Uncle Paul, Bye."

Narrator: One by one, the autumn days flew, and with Andre care the garden it would seem when all was said, and told Andre's thumb was not green but gold.

Narrator: In two straight lines, the girls departed leaving poor Andre quite broken hearted.

Better get to the Café."

Paul said "Andre is everything alright?"

Andre said "Oui Uncle Paul."

Paul said "Andre I know you love Soccer, but you can't play right now."

Andre said "I know, I will think of something. I better get back to the old House."

Paul said "Call me if you need anything alright?"

Ander said "I will, Au revoir Uncle Paul."

Back in the garden.

Andre imagined Madeline, and Chloe playing soccer as tears came into his eyes.

Andre said "Zut alors! These onions are very strong."

Pepito kicked the ball to Madeline.

Madeline "Hmm."

Pepito said "Madeline where are you going?"

Madeline said "Pardon Pepito, sorry Mr. Ambassador, but I have a feeling that I must go back to the Old House right now."

Riley said "Madeline wait up!"

Dan said "But Riley and Madeline, we need to practice. We must win the big game!"

Riley said "Madeline what if we get caught?"

Madeline said "We won't Riley, stay quiet."

Narrator: It was Madeline and Riley's sudden intuition that sent the twins home on an important mission.

Andre said "I am tried of being a county clod, I can play Soccer if I was allowed to."

Narrator: Andre was smell with short pants on, and not very slick but that smell of county boy.

Riley said "Zut allor! He knows how to play Soccer!"

Narrator: Sure he could kick.

Andre said "But no I can't let aunt Kathy know I am, here Dum Diddy Lumpkins Riley and Madeline."

Madeline said "Andre maybe you should join our team."

Riley said "Yes with a kick like that we can beat le walk."

Andre said "But girls I told you two I don't Know how to play Soccer. I only Know how to garden."

Riley and Madeline said "Please Andre! What do you have to lose?"

Narrator: Riley and Madeline pleaded, but Andre would not try. They could not convince him, he was much too shy.

Riley said "Zut allor! He knows how to play Soccer!"

Narrator: Sure he could kick.

Narrator: Riley and Madeline pleaded, but Andre would not try. They could not convince him, he was much too shy. The peas and beans prospered under Andre's touch until everyone agreed it a little too much; Vines and plants was everywhere, even some had grown in Madeline's hair."

Riley said "Hold still sis, get it? It was just the vines see?"

Chloe said "These plants are growing like monsters!"

Nicole said "And I am sick of beets, and broccoli for breakfast."

All the girls said "Me too! Moi aussi!"

Chloe said "Yuck, and everything smells of garlic."

Riley said "That is because it is growing in your shoe."

Chloe said "Riley you, and Madeline do something! it is all the fault of that dumb Did-dil-tly Lumpkin!"

Riley said "Maddie I have a plan. Chloe do not worry."

Narrator: Madeline and Riley's cousin still won't play. Carrying the equipment was the job for Andre.

Steven said "Gracias Andre!"

Riley said "Kick the ball to Madeline."

Madeline said "Kick it to Chloe."

Andre said "Under Chloe."

Madeline said "Bon Pepito!"

Narrator: The game against " Les Rois " was the very next day, they would travel to a festival nearby at the great palace of 'Mirrors' known as Versailles. The day of the game there were fewer, and fuss of the ambassador had even rented a bus.

All the Kids shouted "We know how to jump, we know how to kick, we us around Les Rois' will look sick! Ya Ya!"

Madeline said "Andre look, the Louvre!"

Andre said "Bon ah oui!"

Riley said "Look Andre! The Grand Palais!"

Andre said "Aw the tower, it fact even I knew that!"

Madeline said "See over there, l'Arc de Triomphe!"

Narrator: The drive turn off the shawl of light, and they waived to a bicycle.

Kathy said "Good ridens I am done with the two girls, off to head out of town, and plane on bigger plane."

Narrator: After they had bid Paris goodbye, they arrived at the palace, the splendid Versailles. Everyone showed their harvest wares, it was the best of country faires.

Michel said "Andre, we been looking for you everywhere why aren't you whoe-"

Ander said "Michel shh I can't play soccer here, and blow my cover that I knew the game. I will be back Sunday night alright?"

Michel said "Alright."

Narrator: And Madeline wins two tedder bears, soon it was time for the game to begin and hopefully time for ''Les Tigers'' to win.

Dan said "Remember everything I told you, and now good luck."

All the girls and boys "Merci! Oui Merci!"

Narrator: It's like an awful dream when "Les Tigers" met their opposing team, they had a lot of self reliance but not enough to beat these giants.

Riley said "This is not the same team we played before."

Steven said "They must have been eating their vegetables."

"Way to shoot Madeline! Shoot!"

Narrator: It was hard for "Les Tigers" to keep their place against these hulks, with skills and grace.

Madeline said "Oh no!"

Chloe said "My ankle bone!"

Danielle said "Ow, all of my other bones."

Pepito said "Madeline we must do something! We are being slaughtered!"

Madeline said "Pepito I have an plan."

Dan said "Impossible Madeline, you are joking no?"

Madeline said "No."

Steven said "He is too little."

Riley said "But we have seen him kick a pumpkin!"

Dan said "A pumpkin?"

Madeline said "Please, what do we have to lose?"

Dan said "Well I suppose."

Riley said "You can do it Andre, we need your help to beat these boats."

Andre said "I do now know how to play, but I will try."

Madeline said "You know how, you have watched us many times! Make the ball fly!"

Narrator: But Andre's kick was one huge plop, the boy would surely be a flop.

Paul said "What is Andre doing out there?"

Michel said "Oh boy, Andre will blow his cover for sure!"

Narrator: The crowd just booed and cheered, and hissed every time poor Andre missed.

Steven said "Riley we must do something!"

Riley said "Steven I have another plan."

Steven said "Is it better then Maddie's last plan?"

Madeline said "But Riley what if we get caught?"

"I just need some bandage and some wood." Riley declared. "And a little help from you, Maddie."

"Oh, boy..." Madeline sighed.

Riley said "Hold still" as she wrapped the bandage around Madeline's leg "Hold the crouch, need some orange paint, and a Soccer ball to paint it orange. Come on Maddie."

"Hey, everyone!" Riley called, as she helped Madeline , who was hobbling along.

"Madeline , what happened?" Andre asked.

"I... ow! Ow! ...Hurt my foot" Madeline cringed.

Dan said "But Madeline you were fine earlier."

Madeline said "I know."

Riley said "Think of this as a pumpkin Andre."

Andre said "Huh, hmm?"

Narrator: Andre's kick has such control, the ball just sailed right though the goal, and soon the team of almost losers had a chance to beat the bruisers. Andre kicked the ball in twirl and spun, and that was it, the game was won.

Madeline said "Merci Andre"

Pepito said "Gracias"

Ander said "A ball that looks like a pumpkin was the prefect thing for a dum diddly lumpkin!"

Riley handed the trophy.

All the girls said "Au revoir!"

Narrator: Andre was off the very next day, everyone wished that he could stay; there was still so much to say.

Andre said "Papa needs my help, anyways I wanted to start a soccer team."

Madeline said "Andre adieu, how we shall all miss you!"

Riley said "We will see you again right Andre?"

Andre said "Riley and Madeline, I promise I will write to you two alright?"

All the girls said "Au revoir!"

Chloe said "You now I do not think that Andre is that bad looking."

Nicole said "No, he's even kind of cute."

Miss Clavel said "Bonsoir mes enfants. Pleasant dreams, I must go prepare tomorrow's dessert, cabbage pudding!"

All the girls said "Cabbage Pudding oh no, no more vegetables please!"

Narrator: Then she turned out the light and closed door,

As the girls throw the pillow.
