Madeline: If you believe, you must be big, in order to be tough,
Then you should get to know me, I'll teach you other stuff.
I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
I may be very small,
I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
But inside, I'm tall.
Other 12 girls: She may be teeny tiny,
Diminutive petite,
But that has never stopped her,
From being pretty neat!
Dum dee dum dee dum,
Dum, dee dum dee dum,
Madeline,
Madeline!
She's Madeline, she's Madeline,
We hope you have it straight.
Madeline: I'm Madeline, I'm Madeline,
And inside, I'm great!
Riley, Madeline and The Toy Factory
Narrated by Christopher Plummer
...
In an old house in Paris
All covered with vines,
Lived thirteen little girls
In two straight lines.
Madeline said "Voila, My Scar!"
They left the house at half past nine,
Miss Clavel gasped, and brought the twin sisters into there lines.
...
In two straight lines,
In rain or shine,
The oldest one was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline.
...
In Paris, one of the greatest joys is visiting the "Shop of Toys."
All the girls said "Ohh Bonjour!"
Narrator: There was trains, and cars, and cuckoo clocks, bears and bunnies, and piles of blocks.
The girls said "Ohh!"
Nicole said "Oh Miss Clavel, may we go into the shop, and see the toys?"
Chloe said "Oui! Please Miss Clavel?"
Miss Clavel said "Well I suppose so, but only to look, not to buy."
Narrator: Once in the shop, the girls went wild. Toys can do that to a child.
Toy Owner said "No Alloy!"
Miss Clavel "Oh" she gets Jennie off of the rocking horse.
Toy Owner said "No no you can't ride on that!"
Madeline said "All aboard! Next Stop is the Zoo!"
Riley said "No the Park!"
Miss Clavel gets both twins off of the two trains, and placed them in two straight lines.
"Now you little girls clam down. I'm so sorry, the girls where only playing."
Susan said "Look at my beautiful store, and my hair do!"
All the girls "We are sorry, please forgive us!"
Narrator: Apologies were said once more, and the girls all head out the door leaving the poor clerk on the floor.
Outside the girls just have to keep look at the dolls of every size and shape.
Madeline said "What fun you can have with a doll like me!"
Chloe said "Silly Madeline, you are fun as a girl!"
Madeline said "But a doll is the perfect friend!"
Riley said "Hmm I just have to teach her, my sis a lession."
Miss Clavel said "Not as prefect as a real little girl, now come Mes enfants I have a surprise for you."
Narrator: A little man raced down the stairs, his mustache had some orange hair.
Monsieur La Rue said "Aw Miss Clavel, at last you have arrived! These must be your beautiful girls."
All the girls said "Bonjour!"
Monsieur La Rue said "And so well behaved!"
Miss Clavel said "Well most of the time."
Monsieur La Rue said "I hope it well be satisfactorily to take a tour of my toy factory."
Chloe said "I cannot believe it!"
Monsieur La Rue said "Oui of course, and other wonderful toys too!"
Madeline said "But nothing is as wonderful as a doll!"
Danielle said "We will see them make dolls!"
Monsieur La Rue said "Alloy mes amies!"
Madeline walked behind the toy soldiers.
Chloe said "Look out Madeline!"
Narrator: The girls couldn't not believe their eyes, for in each new room a new surprise, and the biggest toys of all was a giant bouncing ball.
Riley said "Race you Madeline!"
As they bounced on two balls.
Miss Clavel said "Oh Riley and Madeline look out!"
Monsieur La Rue said "Do not Worry Miss Clavel, I will not let your girls bounce away." As he used the net to catch Riley and Madeline, and placed both girls back in line.
Narrator: Then Monsieur La Rue said "Before you bounce right off the walls, perhaps you would like to dress some dolls?"
Chloe said "Dress Dolls?"
Danielle said "C'ertainment!"
All the girls said "Oui oui allonez!"
Narrator: Then in a moment, in a snap, each had a beautiful doll in her lap.
Miss Clavel said "I will be outside talking to Monsieur La Rue, now you girls behave!"
Monsieur La Rue said "And do not touch that conver belt, s'il te plaƮt or you may wind up in a box!"
All the girls said "A box?"
Monsieur La Rue said "And on a delivery truck."
All the girls said "Do not worry Miss Clavel, we will be careful."
Narrator: Thirteen little girls were left to play while the two old friends were chatting away.
Riley said "Voila my doll!"
Chloe said "Just comme toi girls, both dolls look just like you two!"
Madeline said "Now guess which one is the doll? Hide your eyes!"
Eleven girls covered their eyes.
Riley and Madeline placed their hats on the two dolls.
Riley said "Now you may look."
All the girls gasped.
Chloe and Nicole said "Which ones is the real Madeline and Riley?"
Chloe walked over to the dolls as she waved both of her hands.
Riley and Madeline said "We fooled you Chloe!"
As Riley and Madeline, place their hats back on their heads. Madeline begin to dance with her doll.
Madeline
Me and my doll, we will dance the cancan.
Me and my doll, on the Isle of Manman.
That's me and my doll.
Me and my doll, we'll have a tea party.
Me and my doll, with a St. Bernard-y.
That's me and my doll.
Riley, Madeline and the Girls
Eyes that move, knees that bend.
I'll dress her up. She is my friend.
Madeline
Me and my doll, I'll give her a hairdo.
Me and my doll, a high-up-in-the-air 'do.
For me and my doll.
Riley, Madeline and the Girls
Eyes that move, knees that bend.
I'll dress her up. She is my friend.
Madeline
That's me and my doll!
She spins her doll before spinning herself.
Chloe said "Be careful Madeline, do not go near the conveyer belt!"
Madeline said "Do not worry Chloe."
Narrator: Practicing with each little twirl, the dolls danced with the happy girls.
Madeline said "My doll ah!"
Narrator: She stood up once, then she flipped, and was soon all boxed up to be shipped.
Nicole said "Miss Clavel come tout sweets! Madeline is gone!"
Narrator: It was just as Miss Clavel has feared. Madeline had disappeared; she was packed in a box, and out the door on her way to a big toy store. Everybody had to cry, not a single eye was dry. As Riley slipped away, and headed down the street, and thought the woods where she meets up with a lady named Yvette, and told of her Planed . Yvette nodded, and took Riley inside to help her get changed.
Madeline said "I am a doll!"
Narrator: Madeline with a little giggle as she give her toes a wiggles. The street of Paris are quite bumpy, and Madeline got a little bit jumpy.
On the other side of Paris in a great big shuttle, a girl named Giselle was feeling quite low.
Yvette said "Well Dr. Chon how is my little Giselle?"
Narrator: Dr. Chon showed his concern.
Dr. Chon said "What our little Giselle needs less is bed, her fever is gone and she is getting stronger everyday, but she needs something to lift her spirits so she can fully recover."
Yvette said "I don't know what else to get her, Giselle already has everything a little girl could want."
Dr. Chon said "What this little girl needs is a sunny day, and some friends to share it with."
Yvette said "But she have no friends, just a sister named Ruby, and her brother named Jack."
Dr. Chon said "Do they play with her?"
Yvette said "Yes, when they get home from school."
Dr. Chon "Hmm?"
Narrator: The big truck screeched to a short stop as Madeline arrived at the toy shop.
Toy Owner said "Jolie! What a beautiful doll, and so realistic!"
Narrator: Soon Madeline was on the shelf between a pony, and an elf.
Madeline said "Merci"
Toy Owner said "And she curtsies, and says thank you!"
Madeline giggles.
Ruby said "Mom look at all these the dolls, come on Mom."
Yvette said "Ruby we are here for your sister, what about this doll dear?"
Narrator: This was the best game she has ever played, so she continued her charade.
Ruby said "Mom can't we get this doll with the red hair please?"
Yvette said "Oh alright Ruby, but one fight over the doll and it's back to the store understand?"
Ruby said "Yes mom."
Narrator: And in no time someone thought it would be pleasant to purchase Madeline as a present.
Ruby said "I want to hold it mom please?"
Yvette said "Okay Ruby, let's head home."
Narrator: Moments after Madeline was brought, the group of girls raced in distraught.
Miss Clavel said "Vit Vit mes petites, we will find her here I am sure. Have you seen a little girl small-"
Chloe said "With a yellow outfit."
Nicole said "And curtsies."
Narrator: The clerk wrote the name of Madeline's owner.
Toy Clerk said "And if you like to, you may phone her!"
Miss Clavel said "Merci, merci beaucoup!"
Narrator: Miss Clavel dialed the number in tizzy, but at alas the line was busy. Madeline's box bumped to, and for as they reached the large chateau.
Yvette said "Ruby wait for me please."
Jack said "Mom, the Toy Store keeps buzzing in when I was on the phone with Carlo."
Yvette said "Thanks Jack, homework time."
Jack said "But Mom it is Friday, there is no homework."
Yvette said "Jack your room needs to be cleaned, now get to it please. Come Ruby!"
Narrator: Hoping to give Giselle's spirit a lift, Yvette and Ruby present her with the gift.
Yvette said "Bonsoir mes petite."
Giselle said "Bonsoir Mama and Ruby"
Ruby said "I have a surprise for you sis."
Giselle said "Another doll."
Yvette said "Voila! A new friend. I will be up soon to get you for supper, come Ruby wash up please."
All the girls said "Madeline! Oh Madeline!"
Miss Clavel said "Do not worry Riley, Monsieur La Rue and I will be back with Madeline before you go to Bed. Vit vit vit!"
Narrator: Clearly something was not right, as the taxi screeched thought the town that night, and afraid of a disaster.
Miss Clavel said "Please go faster!"
Narrator: Until Monsieur La Rue said "Please be careful how you drive, we would like to have reach Madeline alive!"
Back at the house.
Giselle said "Mama, may I go eat in the playroom? Please, please, please?"
Yvette said "Alright Giselle, just this once."
Back in the playroom.
Giselle said "What do you think Teddy? Shall we name her Yvette? After my mom?"
Narrator: Things went off without a hitch, until Madeline felt an Itch.
Giselle said "Did you scratch your nose? You are almost real!"
Narrator: As Madeline walked across the floor, Giselle cried out.
Giselle said "Encore!, encore! You are the most wonderful doll Yvette, other children won't play with me cause I can't run, and jump like them."
Narrator: Madeline thought "MMMMMM that looks sweet!" Then remembered that real dolls cannot eat. In the old house, tears were shed as the girls sit down to break their breads.
Eleven girls: "We love our bread, we love are butter, but most of all we love... Madeline!"
As Miss Murphy brought hankies to the girls.
Ms. Murphy said "Odd Riley been too quit since they got home, I hope nothing is wrong."
Narrator: What a clock, what a shock! This doll could dance, as well as walk.
Giselle said "I am so happy Yvette, now I have a friend!"
Yvette said "Giselle, time for bed dear."
Narrator: Then Madeline was placed up on a shelf, left in the dark room all by herself.
Riley said "Yvette I can't stay long, I have to be getting home soon before Miss Clavel starts to worry."
Yvette said "I know Riley, I already have Christ waiting in the kitchen."
Narrator: Then in a moment of great elation, the taxi arrived at it's destination. All along it was exacted that Madeline would soon be detected. Madeline felt quite relieved, but Giselle felt she had been deceived. Her new favorite doll, her bon amie was no more than a fantasy.
Madeline said "Please understand, I am a real little girl. My name is Madeline, and I want to go home."
Giselle cried.
Madeline said "But it was really fun being your doll."
Ruby said "Giselle please you will bring your fever back."
Jack said "Hey tomorrow is Saturday, which means we can play with you sis! What do you say?"
Monsieur La Rue said "Aw Giselle, I will come back tomorrow with a new doll, and a whole trunk full of beautiful clothes. Au revoir!"
Giselle said "Au revoir! Now I have lost my only friend."
Yvette said "Riley they are gone, you better get home before Miss Clavel notices."
Riley said "Thank you two. Bye, see you all in the morning!" as she changed back into her school uniform. "Christo how fast can you drive to the Old House?"
Christo said "Hop in, and buckle up please."
Riley "Woah!"
Christ said "So Riley, you are Giselle?"
Riley said "Yes, Dr. Chon helped me plan her a week ago. The mom Yvette was hard to call, so he give me her address, and I came here. Thankfully Madeline hadn't noticed it was me, that bowl was too big."
Christo said "What will happen when Madeline finds out it was you?"
Riley said "I never thought about that Christo."
Christo said "Well maybe now you should think about it."
Riley said "Thanks for the ride home, bye!"
Riley opened the door, but was met by Chloe.
"Riley, where were you?" Chloe asked as Riley got back inside.
Riley said "I was just next door helping Steven. He took my mind off Madeline."
Madeline said "Riley I made a new friend today, you would really like her; She can dance and Play!"
Riley said "Aw sure Maddie I would be glad to meet her, how hard can it be?"
Nicole said "Oh Madeline, we are so glad you are back!"
All the Girls "Oui Madeline, thank goodness you are here! We were so worried!"
"We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all we love each other!"
Narrator: Back at home, the girls broken their bread, and brushed their teeth, and went to bed.
Miss Clavel said "Bon nuit mes petites, sleep well, and be thankful we are all together again."
All the girls: "Bon nuit Miss Clavel!" As she turned off the light, and closed the door.
Narrator: Monsieur La Rue did what he said, he brought a doll, some clothes, and a bed.
Yvette said "Voila Giselle"
Narrator: But nothing could cheer up Giselle, or help her broken heart get well.
Yvette said "Come Giselle, and have a Tea Party with this beautiful doll."
Giselle said "Non, non Mama. I miss Madeline, she would have played in the garden with me."
Yvette said "Perhaps, but she isn't here now. Oh please eat your breakfast my cherie, it will give you more energy to play!"
Riley said "I will take the bread to go. Christo I need a ride back to the Old House, I know what to do now. Bye Yvette!"
Back at the Old House.
Miss Clavel said "Oh please eat your breakfast my cherie, it will give you more energy to play!"
Narrator: Although the day was bright with sun, Madeline could not have fun; Deep in her heart, she felt a pain. Giselle's sad face came to mind again."
Madeline said "I did not want to hurt Giselle, I was only playing a game."
Miss Clavel said "I know my cherie."
Madeline said "She was so much fun at tea parties, and she could even dance when she tried."
Narrator: Before another word was said, a plot brew in Miss Clavel's head as if Madeline read her mind, she decided it would be kind to see the girl she left behind."
Riley peeked from the door "Shoot! Madeline wants to see Giselle again. Alright for the last time, hopefully Miss Clavel doesn't notice I am gone." As she ran out the back door, Christo picked Riley up at the corn.
Miss Clavel said "We are here to play with a picnic to brighten Giselle's day."
Madeline said "And I liked to play with Giselle so much, that I brought my eleven friends!"
Yvette said "Oh Giselle will be so happy!"
Yvette opens Giselle's playroom door, "Giselle, there is someone here to see you!"
Giselle said "Madeline?"
Madeline kissed Giselle on the cheek "Come Giselle, there is a surprise waiting for you outside!"
Giselle said "A surprise outside?"
Narrator: Outside there was a delicious spread; Bon bons, berries, cheese, breads, and some hungry girls waiting to being fed. "Bonjour, bonjour!" They said in greeting, and with that being their eating. They finished eating, and before they knew it Giselle was playing, she could do it!
Yvette said "Oh I have never seen Giselle so happy, you are so kind to come here."
Miss Clavel said "Ah but you must thank Madeline, she's the one who thought to visit with all of the girls, but I haven't seen Riley today."
Jack said "Oh Riley is inside with Ruby Watching TV."
Narrator: They laughed all day feeling quite cheered.
Miss Clavel said "And so the beautiful princesses and-"
Narrator: Unitl evening came, and they got weary.
Miss Clavel said "And they lived happly ever after."
Madeline said "I'm so happy to be your friend Giselle, and Miss Clavel said we can come back to play again!"
Giselle said "I am glad you are not a doll Madeline."
Narrator: Then Madeline asked if it was alright for Giselle to come, and stay the night.
Giselle said "Oh please may I mama?"
Yvette said "Oui oui me cherie!"
Miss Clavel said "Au revoir!"
All the girls said "Bye, we will see you tomorrow!"
Giselle said "When I come home, will play outside more often mama!"
Yvette said "Oui we will."
Ruby said "Mom you know that was just Riley right?"
Yvette said "Yes, but Riley can play. Come time for bed you two!"
Narrator: Back at home they skipped their bread, but they brushed their teeth, and went to bed; then Miss Clavel kissed each one on the head.
Miss Clavel said "I am very proud of you Madeline, you made someone very happy today."
Madeline said "I am happy too Miss Clavel, because now I have a new friend, but I haven't seen Riley today."
Miss Clavel said "She may have fell asleep in the guest room, I will check again I promise. Bonne Nuit mes enfants (Good night my children)." Could they be asleep already?
As the girls giggled.
Miss Clavel laughed "Oh mes enfants, how glad I am that you are real little girls."
Narrator: And she turned out the light, and she closed the door.
And that's all there, is there isn't anymore.
