And inside, I'm great!

Riley, Madeline at Cooking school

Narrated by Christopher Plummer

...

In an old house in Paris

that was covered with vines,

Madeline yawned, and opened the window "Bonjour!"

Lived thirteen little girls,

In two straight lines.

They left the house at noon,

In two straight lines,

In rain or shine.

The oldest one was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline.

The day was fine, the day was rare, delicious scent was in the air.

...

Madeline said "Did you here my tummy rumble?"

Thunder rumbled.

Nicole said "Madeline was that your tummy?"

Madeline said "No no, I am not that hungry!"

Miss Clavel said "Vit vit hurry little girls before we get soaked to the skin!"

All the girls "Oh no"

Narrator: As they rushed from the gust and gale, Madeline saw a girl so frail. A cherie thinner than a rail, this hungry child was glad to fine, the food that others left behind.

Miss Clavel said "Come Madeline, we must hurry home for lunch."

Madeline said "Oui Miss Clavel, some of us are very hungry."

...

: The thundering storm turned the sky as dark as night, and Miss Clavel turned on the light and said.

Miss Clavel said "Something is not right!" "Mrs. Murphy quel dommage!"

Narrator: Dr. Chon explained it was the flu, and their cook would soon be good as new. She can rest in bed, she can read a book, but absolument moi she must not cook.

...

Miss clavel said "Ecoutez little girls, today we must leave Ms. Murphy alone."

Nicole said "But what can we eat?"

Chloe said "We never cooked for ourselves before."

Miss Clavel said "Do not worry Chloe."

: Then Miss Clavel look up in terror for she made a terrible error.

Miss Clavel said "Alors I forgot that Lord Cucuface was coming for lunch today!"

Miss Clave ran to the door and open it "Bonjour, Lord Cucuface!"

Lord Cucuface said "Good day, I been waiting so long. Are you sure it is not good night?"

Girls peek from the kitchen, and close the door.

Lord Cucuface said "I trust I will not have to wait for my lunch."

Miss Clavel said "Aw oui. Une minute, s'il vous plaît."

In the kitchen.

Riley said "How about we play restaurant with Lord Cucuface?"

Madeline said "Yes let's do it."

Riley said "We shall be serving lunch momentarily Lord Cucuface."

Lord Cucuface said "Oui? You serving lunch?"

Riley said "Oui us, my assistant and I are making lunch today."

Lord Cucuface said "I did not know the little girls could cook, what a surprise."

Miss Clavel said "Indeed a surprise for everyone."

...

The girls broke out the bread and butter, and put one a piece on top of the other until they heard a loud voice utter.

Pepito said "Hola"

: Whenever it was time for lunch, Steven and Pepito's stomachs had a hunch, both boys came around in time to munch.

Steven said "What has Mrs. Murphy prepared today?"

Chloe said "Mrs. Murphy is sick, and we are preparing lunch for Lord Cucuface."

Pepito said "Plain bread and butter for the Chairman of the Board of Trustees?

Madeline said "Perhaps we should add other ingredients. Brie, Roquefort, Camembert-" as she passed the two cheeses to her, and Riley's mice pets.

Chloe said "Mmm Mingle berry Jam."

Steven said "Olives"

Chloe said "How do you get the olives to stick to the bread?"

Nicole said "Try it with chocolate syrup."

Lord Cucuface said "By the time I get my lunch it will be time for dinner!"

Narrator: And so for the esteemed trustee, the children made a specialty, a feast of creativity.

Lord Cucuface said "At last, you must have been making beef wellington."

Riley said "No Monsieur, we have been making cheese sandwiches a la Cucuface"

Madeline said "Since they are named after you Lord Cucuface, you must try the first one"

Lord Cucuface said "Merci Merci beaucoup, but ladies' first of course"

"We love our bread, we love are butter, but most of all we love.. Each other."

Madeline said "Hello who is there?"

Rick said "Shoot Madeline saw us."

Chloe said "Where is your Chicken?"

Riley said "Chef Flambé I can't accept this Diploma, sorry."

Miss Clavel said "Come children, it is time to go."

Miss Clavel said "Riley, is something on you mind me petite?"

Riley said "I saw what Madeline did Miss Clavel, it was so sweet of her to give her whole meal away to the hungry kids. If only Chef Flambé knew that."

Mrs. Murphy said "Riley! Miss Clavel! Chef Flambé is here to see you two."

Miss Clavel said "Thanks Ms. Murphy, come Riley!"

Chef Flambé said "Riley, Miss Clavel I am sorry to come so late, but Rick and Amanda told me how Madeline had fed them earlier today, and Riley I want you to have your diploma, and Miss Clavel I redid Madeline's Diploma; Again make sure she gets it."

Miss Clavel said "Of course."

Back in the bedroom.

Nicole said "Madeline, it is so sad that there was no diploma for you."

Narrator: Then someone said.

Miss Clavel said "That isn't quite true."

All the girls read "To Madeline, who so have mastered the art of kindness."

Narrator: Then Miss Clavel told them of Madeline's deed, how she has helped others who were in need, and everyone agreed.

Chloe said "Kindness is more important than cooking."

The girls said "Bonne nuit to you too dear Miss Clavel!"

A week later.

Madeline said "Lord Cucuface is here, with a whole board of directors, and Aunt Kathy!"

Narrator: And Lord Cucuface said.

Lord Cucuface said "you have learned to be kind, and to open your hearts as well as your mind."

Madeline said "But we have not forgotten our honored guest, we have made something special for you."
