In an old house in Paris, that was covered in vines,

lived thirteen little girls,

in two straight lines.

The older one was Riley, and the smallest one was Madeline.

Madeline gasped "What could that be?"

Miss Clavel said "Oh my goodness!"

Danielle said "An elephant loose from the zoo?"

Chloe said "An earthquake?"

Riley said "Ah, it is coming from the embassy!"

Narrator: It was something grand no doubt when a giant truck was pulling out.

Madeline said "Someone very important must be visiting the Spanish ambassador"

Narrator: A workman hung bright lights all over, while the gardener cuts the clovers.

Riley said "Voila look!"

Chloe said "A tent!"

Danielle said "The biggest one I have ever seen!"

Madeline said "Pepito what is happening? Is the King of Spain coming to visit?"

Pepito said "Maybe, both the King and Queen!"

Riley said "How exciting!"

Steven said "And maybe not"

Chloe said "But then who is this all for?'"

Madeline said "I know a famous Spanish bullfighter!"

Pepito said "Maybe then again, maybe not"

...Not in recent history had there been such a mystery.

Madeline said "Pepito-" as she pull the giant flower "All right Pepito talk sensibly!"

Riley said "Madeline where did you learn that word?"

Madeline said some "Some older teenager, I hear walking by one night talking on a cell phone, that word is cool!"

Pepitio said "I am talking sensibly, we are having a ball. Maybe a sheep or princesses will come, maybe ten or twenty."

Riley said "Maybe you do not know who you invited"

Steven said "It is a costume ball silly, anyone could show up!"

As the girls whispered to one another.

Pepito said "It will be the grandest ball ever!"

Madeline said "We are invited to this ball. Yes?"

Steven said "You? Oh I don't not know."

Hannah said "Steven, Pepito! You naughty boys, you forgot to give these to the girls!"

Pepito said "Oh these ha ha, we must have forgotten Mama!"

Gasp

Riley said "It is the invitation to the Ball!"

Steven said "Of course, you all our best friends!"

Madeline said "And there will be a grand prize for best costume!"

Chloe said "How exciting!"

Nicole said "I shall win!"

Riley said "No, moi!"

Danielle said "No I will!"

Madeline said "No, moi!"

Pepito said "Come and play Bullfight Madeline, I will even let you be the matador this time!"

Madeline said "Sorry Pepito, we must start making our costumes!"

Pepito said "But-"

Narrator:...The girls work on their costumes with determination.

Danielle said "I am Gypsy Princess, yippy!"

Narrator:... giggles at every silly new creation.

Chloe said "Beware, I am Phantom of the Opera!"

Narrator:... with the grand prize as their incentives, the little girls were most inventive.

As Nicole whistled as a sailor.

Danielle said "What is this?"

Madeline said "A fairy Godmother!"

Riley said "Well I am Cinderella Maddie!"

Madeline said "No way!"

Narrator:... Everyone was doing fine except perhaps for Madeline.

Madeline as choreographic dancer, she claps her clippers a few times, and spinned accidentally all wrapped up.

Genevieve licks Madeline

Madeline giggles

Narrator:... Maddie, oh how hard Madeline tried.

Riley said "How about Pocahontas?"

Madeline said "No, who will be Pocahonta's boyfriend John Smith?"

Riley said "Right!"

Narrator: She could not be satisfied, then left along to do some hiking.

Madeline "Ah ah-"

Narrator: She thought of something to her liking, and the girls knew it would be quite striking. Suddlenly, the room went dark.

Madeline said "Voila!"

All the girls gasped

Lulu said "Who is she?"

Madeline said "I am the honoror of all France, the Joan of Arc!"

Narrator: The room was quiet, no one stirred not one, the little girls couldn't say a word.

Madeline said "What's wrong, you do not like it?"

Nicole said "Who ever heard a Joan of Arc with polka dots!"

Madeline said "Polka dots?" as she went to the mirror "No Nicole nothing, my face is clean. I will see if Miss Clavel has a horse I can make"

Riley looked into the mirror and gasped "Danielle, you have spots too!"

Chloe said "And you Nicole!"

Nicole said "You too Chloe!"

All the girls "We all have spots!"

Narrator: They hurried off to Miss Clavel.

All the girls yelled "Miss Clavel!"

Miss Clavel said "What? Gasp!"

Narrator: Who knew at once they where not well, the little girls were put to bed, they waited there with anxious dread.

Dr. Chon said "Hmm hmm, say ahh!"

Danielle said "Ahh!"

Dr. Cohn said "Ah ha!"

Miss Clavel said "Please Dr. Chon, what is it?"

Dr. Cohn said "These little girls have the chicken-pox!"

All twelve girls said "Chicken-pox?"

Danielle said "What does this mean?"

Dr. Chon said "It means you will have spots, and itching for awhile, and you must try not to scratch but after that, you will be just fine!"

Narrator: But things were worst than they had dreamed.

Dr. Chon said "You little girls must now be quarantined!"

Riley said "What is quarantined?"

Dr. Chon said "You must stay away from other people so they don't catch it too"

Chloe said "We must stay away from Miss Clavel?"

Miss Clavel said "Not I little girls, I had the Chicken pox as a child, and I can't catch it again."

Danielle said "Does that mean no morning walks?"

Dr. Chon said "No morning walks"

Chloe said "No visit to the Zoo?"

Dr. Chon said "No zoo"

Riley said "No Costume Ball? But I can still see Madeline, oui Dr. Chon?"

Dr. Chon said "Especially no Costume Ball, I am sorry but Madeline can't come in this room"

Riley said "No Costume Ball, and not seeing Maddie? This will be one long week"

Chloe said "This can't be!"

Nicole said "My beautiful costume!"

Danielle and the girls said "Quelle worst!"

Miss Clavel said "Dr. Chon, you sure Madeline won't catch the Chicken pox?"

Dr. Chon said "I am sure Miss Clavel, just be on the Look out for skin blisters, scabs, ulcers, or red spots, and the whole body for fatigue, fever, or loss of appetite."

Miss Clavel said "Thanks for coming by Dr. Chon"

Madeline said "Miss Clavel where are the other girls?"

Miss Clavel said "Madeline me petite, the girls have the Chicken pox, so you can sleep in the guest room; It has a built in bathroom alright?"

Madeline said "Oui Miss Clavel"

Narrator: The next morning when they checked their clocks, they knew there will be no more walks.

As the girls sighed

Narrator: Just the itches, and spotting from Chicken pox.

Riley said "Why did we have to get sick now?"

Nicole said "There is nothing to make it go away!"

Miss Clavel said "I am afraid not Mes enfants, but before you know it you will be better, and remember Mes petites you must not scratch these spots!"

Riley said "Miss Clavel how is Madeline?"

Miss Clavel said "Madeline is fine Riley, I promise"

As night time comes

Miss Clavel said "Good night little girls, sleep well"

All twelve girls said "Good night Miss Clavel, sighed"

Miss Clavel shock her head, and closed the door.

Madeline said "Miss Clavel, can't I see my friends please?"

Miss Clavel said "No Madeline you can't, but you can play with Steven and Pepito tomorrow alright?"

Madeline said "Oui Miss Clavel yes, night!"

Miss Clavel said "Good night Madeline, sleep well!"

Narrator: As the days march by in slow succession, more spots appeared in quick progression, leaving the girls in a deep depression.

Chloe said "I have more spots than freakles!"

Danielle said "Even my spot has a spot!"

Riley said "I have more spots than this ladybug!"

Miss Clavel said "Cheer up girls, it will not last forever"

Narrator: But they could not do anything but cry, for they miss chasing butterflies.

Pepito said "Riley where are you?"

Riley said "Bonjour Pepito, we are up here!"

Pepito said "Come out and play but wait, is this no costume?"

Riley said "No it is not a costume, it is the Chicken pox"

Pepito said "Chicken pox? But chickens don't have that many spots!"

Laughs at the girls with spots on their faces.

Riley said "You shouldn't laugh at people who are sick!"

Pepito said "Wait Riley I am sorry, I will cheer you up. You see it? It is what I am wearing to the ball, is it not magnificant?"

"Riley the ball!" as she, Danielle and Chloe ran back inside crying.

Pepito said "Wait, what is wrong? What did I say?"

Narrator: Little did Pepito know his costume would cause such a blow.

Pepito said "Riley please I am sorry, what did I do?"

Narrator: There was nothing left to do but go.

Steven said "Pepito, what were you thinking?"

Pepitio said "Steven I didn't mean to cause a blow, I just wanted to cheer them up!"

Steven said "Well me and Madeline are making get well cards, she is staying over for lunch then we are heading out to shop"

Peptio said "I will come along too Steven"

Narrator: As the big day near, the girls felt poor hearing the excitement from next door.

Madeline said "Cool, they are getting ready"

Pepito said "Si Madeline, so have you seen Riley lately?"

Madeline said "Non Miss Clavel won't let me, what's the big deal about Chicken pox anyways, I want my sister back"

Steven said "Madeline Chicken pox is very contagious to those that don't have them, I got mine a while back so I can't catch them again"

Madeline said "Oh I have an idea, I will be right back come Genevieve!"

As she went inside the House "Good, Miss Clavel is on the phone" as she knocked on the door three times as she ran down the stairs"

Lulu said "Madeline what's the matter?"

From down stairs

Madeline said "Lulu open the door, let Genvevieve Marie in please she misses you all"

Lulu said "Alright Madeline" as she opened the door, and Genevieve ran in happy to be with the girls again.

Narrator: But Riley was tried of feeling so blue, of staying in bed with nothing to do.

Riley said "No more sighing"

Chloe said "But we have nothing to do!"

Nicole said "We can't not go to have fun with Madeline outside!"

Danielle said "And we are missing the Costume Ball!"

Riley said "But we can have fun right here!"

Riley

When you've got the spots all over, from your eyebrows to your socks, it's that itchy, dreaded illness that they call the chicken pox.

When your toes have dots of purple, and your nose has dots of red, you can still have great adventures without getting out of bed.

All twelve girls

Round up those spots and send them off on yachts.

Don't lose your head just 'cause you're stuck in bed.

Riley

Imagination is the best cure, it can save you every time.

Find a kayak you can paddle, or a mountain you can climb.

Fly an airplane, meet a dragon, take a cruise right down the Nile.

Ride on horseback in the circus.

You'll feel fine in just a while!

Twelve girls

Round up those spots and send them off on yachts.

Don't lose your head just 'cause you're stuck in...

As the girls laugh

Narrator: They soon forgot they were feeling blue.

Miss Clavel said "My little girls are pulling though"

Narrator: Then Riley had more ideas for fun for girls who can't play or run.

Riley said "Now we play the connect the dots!"

The girls said "Huh?"

Riley said "Uh I mean spots, you first Nicole"

Riley drew on Nicole's tummy

Riley said "Look on Nicole's tummy, it is Steven's Bad Hat!"

As the girls laugh

Danielle said "And I have a clown!"

Chloe said "And I have a dog, it is Genvevieve! Now you Riley, what is on your tummy?"

Riley said "I have a lot of spots"

Narrator: It took extra long to connect the dots, they checked her stomach with great care, but no one could could figure out what was there.

Chloe said "A goat?"

All the girls said "No"

Nicole said "Pig?"

All the girls said "No"

Danielle said "A bat?"

All the girls said "No"

Riley said "Voila of course, I know what it is!"

All the girls said "Oh it is a giraffe!"

Riley said "With lots of spots!"

The girls laugh

Narrator: Miss Clavel heard their giggles.

Miss Clavel gasped

Narrator: Then was shocked when she saw their scribbles.

Miss Clavel said "Oh my, I think it is time for a bath!"

As the girls laugh

Narrator: The next morning came without a sight or a m***, so Miss Clavel went to the phone, and dialed the number of on.

Miss Clavel said "Bonjour doctor, I think my little girls are almost well"

Narrator: On the dot of a quarter past nine, he enter the house all coved with vines, and examined the girls in two straight lines.

hn said "So Riley, how are you feeling today?"

Riley said "Très bien"

Narrator: And to make sure he understood, she did a cartwheel where she stood. Riley did a cartwheel, and giggled.

on said "Hmm I see, ah yes, ah ha!"

Narrator: What could be happening, what could this mean?

Miss Clavel said "The end of the little girls quarantine!"

Dr. Chon cleared his throat "I am very proud of you mes enfants!"

Riley said "Do we get to go to the ball, and can I finally see my twin sister again?"

All the girls said "Please say yes!"

Miss Clavel said "Shh little girls, let on finish!"

Narrator: After some time that seem like ages, he pronounced them not contagious.

Danielle said "Then we can we go to the ball?"

on said "I don't see why not?"

Later that morning

All the girls shouted "Pepito, Steven! Pepito, Steven!"

Riley said "Pepito, Steven we are no longer sick!"

Danielle said "We can come to the ball!"

Pepito said "You are coming to the ball with all these spots?"

Steven said "Do not worry girls, no one will laugh"

Pepito said "Just look at your spots!"

All the twelve girls said "Oh no!"

Narrator: Though their spots were not gone, each girl still has a batch, they where not the sort a person could catch.

Danielle said "All these spots!"

Nicole said "We can't not go to the ball!"

Chloe said "Everyone will laugh at us"

Riley said "No Chloe, no one well laugh"

Steven said "No one will laugh at your spots"

Pepito giggles

Madeline said "Steven I will be right back"

Back inside

Madeline said "I have had it, we must get busy! We have much to do, and not a lot of time"

Chloe said "What do you mean?"

Madeline said "Our costumes for the ball of course!"

Chloe said "Costume for the ball?"

Danielle said "With these spots, never!"

Madeline whispered to Riley

Riley whispered to Madeline's plan to Danielle

Danielle said "Oh Madeline, what a wonderful idea!"

Narrator: It was the night of the ball, and everyone was there from the mayor of Paris and his wife what a pair, to an under mannered clown with some flaming red hair, and the Transylvanian count cause quite a scare. There are hats of all sizes, and wigs with long curls, but there still wasn't no trace of the thirteen little girls.

Hannah said "Where can the little girls be, did you hear that Dan?"

Dan said "Surely it is nothing, I will see for myself a bear and tights"

Narrator: Then more spotted animals leaped from the bush, dogs, cows, and an antelope emerge with a "ROAR"

Hannah said "Who are all these creatures?"

Narrator: But the animals did not seem quite so tough when they leaped, and each sample a cream puff.

Riley said "Bon"

Narrator: And that little voice give them a sight, that the mystery felines was Riley and Madeline.

Dan said "I believe we have spotted the girls from next door"

Madeline said "Please Ms. Spanish Ambassadress, where is Pepito?"

All the girls said "Oui, oui where is he!"

Pepito said "I am up here amigos, I am up here!"

Madeline said "Pepito"

Hannah said "I will take you to him"

Narrator: The twelve girls crowded around with care and concern, what was ailing Pepito they needed to know.

Hannah said "Steven please take Madeline back to the party"

Steven said "Si mama, come Madeline there is a game!"

Riley said "Pepito why are you in bed?"

Narrator: Lit up by the firework while hiding in bed, he was covered in spots from his toes to his head.

Riley said "Oh poor Pepito, you have caught the Chicken pox!"

Pepito said "And now you are going to tease me, like I teased you"

Riley said "Well Madeline might since she never had them, but me non Pepito, we have come to be with our friends"

Pepito said "Go on, you do not want to miss the fireworks and anyway, you might catch it again"

Danielle said "But we can't catch it again"

Riley said "And we can see the fireworks right here with you"

Pepito said "Really, you want to?"

All twelve girls said "Me oui!"

Riley said "What are friends for?"

Dan said "Steven, Madeline follow me please; Riley, Madeline and girls I have something for you"

Narrator: With a happy smile and cheery eyes, the ambassador give them first prize.

Dan said "Feliz cumpleaños Steven, niñas you have won first prize, you have the best costume at the ball!"

All the girls have won

Dan closed the door "Come on you two!"

Narrator: Below in the garden gust, Steven and Madeline had there fun, but the best party of all have just begun, and they stayed with their friend that is what friends are for, and that's all there is, there isn't anymore.
