Chapter 3:

Sapkit woke with a strange sensation. He had no idea where he was. This was not normal. It was irregular. He looked around. All the cats were strange, unfamiliar. He looked at his own paws, and didn't recognize them. He knew what his den looked like, and this was not it. But, whenever he tried to reach for a picture of the den in his memory, he couldn't find anything. He got up, his paws unsteady. He stepped out. He was in a completely different, unfamiliar land. He saw a cat holding a mouse, an apprentice, he remembered. He remembered. Suddenly, just then, he remembered everything. It all was familiar. He glanced at his white and orange paws, embarrassed. Does this happen to everyone, or did it happen to just me?

"Have you ever felt like you have no idea where you are?" Sapkit asked the apprentice, Tigerpaw.

"Sure. Whenever I patrol new borders, I usually don't know where I am," Tigerpaw replied. She took her mouse and walked off. Sapkit was annoyed. That wasn't what I was asking! He was going to be an apprentice in a moon. He should know if there was something wrong with him. He was mad, but he swallowed his anger and walked on. He stopped as he reached the medicine den, fighting the urge to step inside and ask the medicine cat for help. He still had no idea if there was anything wrong with him as well, or if it was something that happened as he grew older. So he walked on, towards the exit of the camp. He wanted to see what it looked like, because his plan to explore outside of camp was interrupted by Dandelionheart. He wasn't going outside of camp, but he could peer out of the entrance, see some of the trees, and once he swore he saw a bird on the ground. Cats were posted on the top of the hill, which had a small crater in the middle of it where SwampClan lived. Swampclan dug a hole through the hill before any of the elders were born, and it had stayed that way. Sapkit had two options. He could peer out of the entrance or head to the top, and get a bird-eye view of the area around him. The most he'd ever seen was ten feet outside of his camp, so this was very exciting. He decided that instead of peering out of the entrance, it would be safer to climb the hill. He knew that there was only one cat on the top during daylight, so he would be safe to look for a while. He jumped onto a small rock den, not breaking anything but causing hisses from inside. He leaped away quickly and started climbing to the top of the hill. SwampClan had very strong walls and it wasn't hard to defend against invaders, but it stuck out like a sore thumb. He rose to the top finally, gazing out among the swamp, and even farther. He didn't quite know the names of the other clans yet, but he could see a clear mountain area, a large sand outcrop and a forest on the other side of it. He realized that each of these housed the other Clans. Peering close enough, he thought he could make out a cave in the mountain, a clearing in the forest, and a hole in the sand. He now understood where all of the other Clans resided. He hopped off of the hill and headed back to the nursery.
