Chapter 3: Mai be a Friend for Yui

Throne Room

"So it as she said" Yui said while taking a sip of her blood wine, "Her army will march forward, so long as she survives."

"Correct" the woman across said, "Something you wanted, if I recall."

"She's something special, Mai" Yui smiled, "She's so determined to end my reign."

"This existence is truly a curse, isn't it?" Mai frowned. Yui returned the frown, as she believed Mai's words.

"You understand now, don't you?" Yui inquired, "And yet, that question holds no weight for you."

"Yes, you're right" Mai breathed, "Myself and your sisters still appreciate the gift of immortality, every demon does at some point. But you don't, because you never were truly alive."

"That's right, I was born dead" Yui answered, "Just like the old guard, except I was the cure to Endezeit. Every demon starting with you could appreciate the beauty of human mortality."

"...You're jealous that you were denied that reality." Mai observed.

"Yes" Yui sighed, "It would've been better if I was born a demon from the start, that way I would never have false beliefs."

Demons were damned, tossed away from the presence of God. If they were killed, they would be banished to Hell, the prison of the demon world.

Only humans were allowed in Heaven.

Yui once believed that if she died, she would go to heaven and be with God. However, because she held a demon's heart since birth, her "human" nature was an illusion.

Once the illusion was broken, her devotion to God became utter hatred.

A hatred so strong she became the Demon Queen, also known as Satan, The Devil, Lucifer, the Antichrist, and other names for the Infernal One.

Her anger and jealousy set in motion the events of today, the corruption of humanity.

The ever rise of Dhampirs, human/demon hybrids who were natural replacements for humans.

And who would never see the face of God, due to their demonic nature.

As time went on, however, Yui found amusement in the numerous attempts by humans to retake their future. For us, this showed that Yui wasn't completely removed from what she once was.

But….then she became the center of a new religion, one that would swarm the world.

A phenomenon that led her to desire death, a platform that would allow her to ascend into a deity.

A feat that even the original Devil failed to achieve, to become a proper rival to God himself.

Reality would be split in two, with one side being controlled by God and the other controlled by her.

This was the ultimate outcome she desired, an eternal war with the creator of the universe.

All because she believed he's at fault for her damnation...our damnation.

To an extent, she was right.

At the same time, we also made decisions that contributed to our fall. Nobody was innocent.

Nonetheless, we Dames have determined to see her vision out. As it turns out, Ragyo Komori was the soul destined to end Yui's current existence. After all, she was the recinarted soul of Yui Komori prior to Cordellia's heart being implanted into her.

"But then you would never have a soul" Miu reminded.

"I'm sure my soul is living an ignorant life" Yui waved off, "It's very fragile."

That's another thing about transforming into a demon, you lose your soul. Demons don't not have souls, thus when a human becomes a demon their soul is released back into the stream of rebirth. This is intended by God's design, for it's the best way to forge his warriors of light. Only once has a soul become worthy in his eyes is it removed from the stream.

Despite the behaviors and deeds of Ragyo's tenure as General of the Phoenix Army, her soul was ripe for God to mould into one of his warriors.

This is critical for ascension, as Yui needed to capture the soul with her dying essence.

It was still a gamble, as the timing was very narrow. The target would need to be strong enough to kill her and merge, if they became a demon before that time then godhood was impossible.

Fortunately, the soul she would be merging with is her own. This significantly increased the odds of the ritual working.

For Mai, the more important thing was Yui realizing that Ragyo Komori was her human reincarnation, in hopes Yui would also merge the emotional aspects of her soul. She missed the girl she met so many years ago, the selfless compassion and charity was dearly missed.

Even if it was just an illusion back then, it could become real now.

A Goddess worth worshipping, unlike God himself who was a selfish prick.

"You know, there is something familiar about that girl but I can't put a finger on it" Yui commented.

"I agree" Mai said, "Despite her ruthless nature towards us, she's deeply compassionate and selfless to humans and even the half-bloods and Dhampirs in her ranks. She's also deeply religious."

"I've read the reports" Yui laughed, "I meant something deeper."

"Ah" Mai feigned surprise, "Then perhaps you will figure it out on your way to deity?"

"I suppose" Yui hummed, "She does feel like the perfect soul for the ritual."

"Because it's your soul" Mai thought to herself.

"In any case, we're reaching the climax of this story" Yui said as she took a sip of her wine, "What Lucifer failed to do eons ago will be realized through me. Yahweh's monopoly over reality will come to an end."

"Is this part where I say Amen?" Mai deadpanned.

"Leave that to the religious folk" Yui chortled, "It's that time, shall you accompany me to the rose garden?"

Mai put her down her glass. The rose garden was Yui's favorite place to discuss things that weren't business, among other things.

"Of course" Mai smiled softly before standing up. On the spot, Yui transformed into a form that appealed to her tastes.

One that at a glance looked like the late Karl Heinz, the previous Devil.

"Shall we?" Yui smiled while motioning towards the rose garden.

Mai nodded and walked beside her sister, her queen.

And hopefully, a Goddess worth her praise.
