Alone
Lightning McQueen rolled off the podium, very proud of himself. He had just won yet another race.
Now, all I have to do is win the Dinoco 400 next week and I'll be the first rookie in history to win the Piston Cup and land Dinoco! he told himself happily. How sweet would that be!
The rookie sensation cruised around Victory Lane. He could see several other racers milling around. The King nuzzled his wife as he chatted with her and Tex affably. The four human riders- Andrew Fletcher, Adrian Owen, Tyson Stevenson and Randy Griffin- were stood around, talking and laughing.
"Hey, guys!" Todd Marcus, Adrian's racing partner, called to them. "You coming to the party?"
"Yeah, we'll be right there!" Adrian assured him.
For a brief moment, Lightning felt kind of uncomfortable. Was it possible that he was... jealous? These humans were all great friends with each other and their racing partners, plus a few other racers as well. He, on the other tyre, was all alone. Sure, he preferred to work alone, but when the work was done, sometimes, he thought it might be nice to have a friend or two.
What are you thinking?! Lightning rebuked himself. It's much better to be alone! You can't trust any of 'em! You can't trust anyone! You don't want to make the same mistake you did with Carl and Oliver, do you?
And that was the end of that.
"Hey, kid!" Mack called out. "Congrats on the win!" He sounded sincere. "You ready to make your personal appearance at your sponsor's tent?"
Lightning groaned. How he hated rusty cars! How bad they made him look! You see? he told himself, only half-convinced. It is much better to be alone!
I think Lightning must be lonely before the first movie since he doesn't have any friends. He just wouldn't want to admit it, even to himself. I noticed in the first movie after he spoke to Harv on the way to California, he seemed kind of sad. Maybe that's why.
Please review. Tomorrow's drabble is the last one.
