Your Heart Will Lead You Home
By Madeline Jane "Maddie" Fretz
It had been a few days since Ruben moved away, and 9-year old Kaitlin McKreckson was sick and feeling depressed already.
When her pet snail Elijah died, Kaitlin cried and cried. She would never ever forget Elijah.
At Smithridge Elementary, Kaitlin put her head down on the lunch table. "Kaitlin, wake up!" her classmate Daven shaked her shoulder. "Everyone leaves, one point or another." Kaitlin sobbed.
"That's the way life is, Kaitlin McKreckson. We're here for you." Daven comforted her.
"Thanks, Daven. Really helped." Kaitlin sighed. "I was thinking about Elijah's death."
Kaitlin lonely watched her friends talking together. Life was so unfair. Ruben had to move to Russia. Why was life like this? She wondered, as she let her depression drown her.
Sunny Days and Starry Nights
And lazy afternoons
You're counting castles in the clouds
And humming little tunes
But somehow right before your eyes,
The Summer fades away
Everything is different.
And everything has changed.
If you feel lost, and on your own,
And far from home,
You're never alone, you know.
Just think of your friends,
The ones who care
They all will be waiting there, with love to share
And your heart will lead you home
Kaitlin sighed. She really missed Ruben. She decided that asking questions wasn't a good idea, and figured that he should let everything unfold naturally. Everything was fine.
THE END
