'So long as they have each other, they will be fine'

7:20 am 23/08/2019

As I'm finishing breakfast, I noticed that Naomi was up earlier than normal. As she walks into the kitchen, I greet her as normal and offer to make her breakfast. Naomi is my other daughter, and I help Nova through her, getting her to give Nova blankets at night when she's been out late and such, and I have always had a good relationship with her, mostly because I was actually able to be myself around her all the time, rather than needing to be harsh around Nova.

I make her bacon and eggs as she turns the TV on, seeing that there are only news channels showing anything since the event, so she turns it over to Nine news again. A young news reporter is shown standing in front of… My local police station

"Police have now begun preparations to bring in the elementals of the Watsonia area, they will be giving each household a call about an hour before they arrive to confirm if they have any Elementals and how many are in their care. It is unlikely that they will be able to cover every part of the local area today, but they will be focusing on the streets closest to each town's center, then going outwards."

Both Naomi and I trade worried glances as we realize what is going to happen, and Naomi begins to tear up, so I hug her close to comfort her.

I hear my phone buzz just as Naomi and I are finishing our plan to help Nova before she is taken away with my son Troy, who had become a Vulpix. I pick up the phone and answer the call.

"Good morning sir, have you been keeping up with the news?"

"Yes I have, but who is this?"

"My name is Sargent Silkner, and I'm calling to see if you have any Elementals at your residence?" I'm stunned, I wasn't expecting to hear a call this early, even though we aren't actually too far from the middle of town, I was just hoping for more time.

"Y-Yes, we do"

"How many do you have, and may I remind you of the consequences if you choose to hide some?"

"We have two here, but where are you going to take them?"

"We will be taking them to a secure facility, where they will remain until we can find a cure or vaccine to stop any potential spreading."

"Well, how do you know that we'll ever fund a vaccine or cure? What will happen if we never do? Are they just going to keep them locked away forever or will you eventually release them back to their families?" I'm really hoping they had a plan B, cause if the plan me and Naomi fails, then I can't imagine how bad things could get for my eldest daughter.

"Sir, all I can say is that they will be released to the wild if no cure is found. I don't know how long they will wait nor where they will be realized, I'm just trying to do my job here." He's right, why did I think he'd know anything anyway? They are usually useless at the best of times. "That said, we will be getting there in about twenty minutes, so have them ready to go as soon as possible."

I can't believe it, the news said they would ring an HOUR before they arrived, yet he's telling me we have less than a third of our promised time, this is not looking good. "What do you mean I have to give her up in twenty minutes? The news said an hour!'

"Things have changed sir, that's all I can say, so either you'll hand them over in twenty minutes or there will be consequences," I hate this, I hate it with every fiber of my being, but I can't do anything about it, not now.

"I understand, so you'll be arriving in 20 minutes, see you then." Click I hang up the phone before he can say anything more. I turn around and walk over to the laundry where Nova and Troy are sleeping. I go to open the door but then I stop, how am I going to handle this? I want Nova to know I never wanted to hurt her, but I was also wary that maybe her mother could walk in on the conversation.

I nod as I decide to tell her most of it at a later date, only telling her what she needs to hear now so I can hopefully tell her the rest when I'm away from her mother. I open the door and bend down, worry and sadness written all over my face. I look at Nova as she has a confused look on her face, which looks absolutely adorable on her, but Troy nuzzles (I think that's the word) up to her side, and I can't help but smile at the scene.

'So long as they have each other, they will be fine' I tell myself as I take a breath to compose myself. "Look, I know this may be hard to believe, but I feel bad for what I did… We've both done things I hope we both regret…" That didn't quite come out how I intended, but I think it got the point across. Even so, she gives me a skeptical look, clearly not buying it… I sigh 'Should've known she wouldn't buy it'

I sigh. "There are going to be some police officers that are going to take you away, and I don't want to see you harmed anymore, I'll explain more about what I mean at a later date, and I hope you'll be able to forgive me in time, but I'm going to help you and Troy to the best of my abilities now." I pull out a pair of pliers from my pocket as I cut their collars enough so they would easily come off with a little effort, but not so much that they fell apart instantly.

Nova instantly looks up at me with the most shocked expression I've ever seen on her, and that's saying something, but at least she isn't very confused anymore, from what I could tell anyway. As soon as I put the pliers away, I see my wife come in with… An old friend of hers, an officer I recognize all too well, Con. Mayweather, a new officer to the area, but a local she's known for nearly a decade. I had always suspected that she had been having an affair with Mayweather, especially since we haven't been in bed together in almost five years, so Troy was always a mystery on how we had him.

I stood up and grabbed their leashes, then I spoke softly enough so no one except Nova and Troy could hear me. "As soon as you can, I want you to run, run as far and as fast as you can, with Troy on your back. I will try to distract them without making it obvious, good luck."

We began walking out of the Laundry and into the lounge room as I turned to Naomi, and my heart broke as I saw she was crying again, but I had to stay composed not to draw suspicion, which was very hard. "Say goodbye Naomi, this is likely the last time you'll see this mut for a while"

I gave her a wink as she slowly gave me a wink in return through her tears. I look down at Nova and notice her confused expression, and after a moment she seems to try and pinch herself before a slight yelp escapes her lips. 'Don't worry Nova, I wish this was a dream as much as you do.'

I decide to drive it home by looking up and towards my wife and the officer, saying just barely loud enough for them to hear. "It's too bad too, I was starting to like treating you that way!" Naomi quickly runs over and gives her siblings hugs and pats, much to the delight of Troy, and even Nova begins to look extremely relaxed and starts purring without even trying to suppress it when Naomi scratches behind her ear. She's taken to this new form much faster and easier than I think I ever could. I sigh deeply.

'It must have been so hard for her to deal with all she's been through, especially given everything I've done… I'm sorry Nova, I should have just taken us away from her once I realized she had changed… Once I realized how much you had been hurting from you losing your friend and your mother becoming cold towards you.'

I begin preparing a few documents we had written up, Naomi and me, making sure we had everything we needed to enact the next step in our plan. I know of someone who lives in South Australia, one of my clients that I've helped a lot in the past and we've been good friends for a while too. He has a boat hiring service and is even able to drive people around the world if given a few day's notice. I just hoped he was not transformed during the big event, so his business could keep going.

I planned on asking him to take Nova where ever she wanted to go, or at least take her in and take care of her until Naomi and I could get away from her mother. I wanted to stay away from the others for as long as possible, so I kept to myself, preparing what I was going to say to my old friend.

Around twenty minutes later, I see another officer walk up the steps to our house, and greet my wife and the other officer. I decide to walk over to the group now with a little "Alright, let's go you mut!" with an added wink so she knew it was nearly time for her to go, with Nova, Naomi and Troy following me. I notice Troy on Nova's back. 'Good, so long as he sticks with his sister, I'm sure he'll be fine, Nova has always been strong emotionally, so I have faith she will get through this.'

As I turn around to concentrate on the conversation, I hear Nova do what I presume is "talking" in her language, comprising of a yip and a few "Sylvy, Syl Sylv"'s, but I decide to ignore it as the new officer looks at me.

"I take it this is the one you told us about?" He asks.

"That is correct," I reply, making sure they don't try to run too early. I hear her say "Sylvy syl" as Troy nods, and I hand over the leashes to the officer's expecting hand. As his hand gripped the leashes, Nova immediately begins running out the door, as the collars snap exactly as I wanted them to.

The two officers take off after my runaway daughter, and even my wife runs to the balcony before looking back at me with furious eyes. I just shrug as I turn around towards the garage, beckoning Naomi to join me.

"Where do you think YOU'RE GOING!?" I stop, as I turn around and look at her.

"Honestly, I'm surprised you care, didn't you say you'd be glad when she's gone? She's no longer our problem so I see no reason for you to be complaining, and before you ask, no, I will not be joining them to go search for her, she's not my problem anymore." I look down to Naomi and give her another wink as she stares back at her mother. "And to answer your question, Naomi asked if I could take her to see if her friend was alright over in Eltham." And with that, we walked away from my still mad wife.

Well, yet another chapter down, and now we see a part of the plan he has for the future. Now I know he is acting very… different, from how he originally did in the first couple of chapters, but next chapter I plan to go into what happened and why he started acting how he did, aside from what I've already said. Now I'm writing all of this on the 30th of May, only a couple of days before I'm posting this, but that's because of University, kinda making my life a pain and preventing me from having the motivation to write more. I've also changed my schedule once again, and I plan to upload one chapter of both this and the main story, plus one other story's chapter per month, so I hope that it will be enough to satiate your taste for my writing, assuming anyone really cares. Anyway, please comment on what you liked and what I can improve on, and I'll see you all later. As always, stay frosty!
