CHAPTER 72: Verschränkung (Fandom: Cat In The Box)

Her name is Girl.

Well, if you want to be specific, it isn't her true name. She sold that long ago for safety.

So, now she is just called Girl.

She was once human, could still be but she's afraid to check. She isn't anymore, or maybe just human plus.

There's only so many times someone can go through the Random Probability Teleporter and not come out changed.

Her fellow employees don't like her, and she's fine with that honestly. She'll take racism over infinite death any day.

At least they are conscious of her… 'disability'. If you want to call being unable to walk out the front door without trying to die a disability.

She is one of the only non-void beings to ever see Dollar General HQ, and the only one to not immediately go insane.

Jokes on them though, she was already insane.

There is a famous story, it shows up often throughout the multiverse so you probably have heard of it. "There is a cat inside a completely sealed box that one can not see through. After an hour there is a 50% chance the cat will die. There is no way to know whether the cat is dead or alive until you open the box. After one hour, in what state would you find the cat inside the box?"

She used to find that question weird, then she was trapped in her own box.

One day, she would have to thank whatever that spiral was for giving her the memories of her loop. And even if that pumpkin lantern with the pink flames wasn't sentient, she'd still thank it for opening the door to Dollar General.

If the cat isn't in the box it can't be dead.

If the rat isn't in the trap it can't be dead.

One day she'll end up back in that manor, one day she'll die and start right at the beginning. Maybe the spiral won't be there to help, maybe she'll be right back to looping through her own demise ad infinitum.

Until then, there are shelves to stock.

And as long as she's alive, she wins.

And that's all that matters.
