Greetings, reader. If you're reading this book, then there is probably one of two things that happened to me: the author. Either I died and this got picked up and put into a library somewhere, maybe that one that Espeon runs or something… or Ultra Space decided to get all screwy with me again and sent this to you and your world by some strange fate. Who knows. Maybe someone already found this book and posted it online or something. I'm putting my money on the one about Ultra Space so bare with me here when I say this stuff. Your world is not the only world. There exists a thing called Ultra Space, connecting each and every world- every alternate universe. It's hard to explain the chaos it has. These worlds can be parallel, and have everything opposite. Or they can be something completely different and blow your mind with its differences… just like my little predicament that ended up turning my life around.

As I said earlier, Ultra Space did something to me. And, seeing as this book is in your hands (or paws or psychic powers or whatever), it did it again at some point. Probably. And, if luck so has it that you're from my original world, you're in for a real shock when I say this next thing.

Pokémon. Are. Real.

Real life, breathing, living beings. They're just not in yours, my friend. But don't go searching for them- it ain't gonna work. You don't find Ultra Space (at least, not in our world). Ultra Space finds you. Just like it did for me. And it's very picky.

My name is… was… Dexter Marquez. And, though I was human before… I am now a Pokémon.

And finally… if this book somehow ends up in your hands, partner… I want you to know that I am alive. The fall did not kill me and I'm still standing better than I ever did. I will come back when the time is right, Sean. Just wait for me.

"Sigh…"

I lean back against my chair, staring at my computer that I just turned off for the night. Today was uneventful. It was another boring day at boring online school. If I wanted to go to school- I don't- I would prefer if there wasn't a pandemic going on that keeps everyone inside and actually be there, at the school, in person. But at least it wasn't all bad.

Turning my computer back on, I check my to-do list of homework. Barely anything. I can get a video or two in for fun and read some of the fanfics that I got saved up online before I have to do them. Going to the ever famous website, Youtube, with its sea of videos in my recommended, I stumbled upon something that I always knew existed but never really bothered to try. A video on how to experience lucid dreaming. I lean back in my seat again, reminiscing about the times back when I was only ten years old or so and thought lucid dreaming was impossible. I simply shrugged and played the video.

It only took about ten minutes to really absorb the information of the video. It was really so simple, what it wanted me to do. Meditate for a couple minutes before bed, play your own daydream or something in your head, then repeat a mantra to yourself before you fall asleep. Maybe it could work, maybe it couldn't. Doesn't hurt to try. But I've still got some reading to catch up on and about six hours before I actually, normally, go to sleep.

God, there's really nothing interesting online today.

"It just had to be one of the colder nights, aye fate?" I said to myself. "I was hoping to have a nice, warm bed to go to but now I have to wear my sweatshirt to bed."

It was one of the colder nights this season. It was still winter and it's just now that snow seems to be piling up higher than this morning's pancakes. They were some pretty good pancakes…

Zipping up my sweatshirt and pulling the hood up over my head, I remembered the lucid dreaming technique thing I watched about earlier and decided that this was the perfect opportunity to test it. I got in bed and under the sheets with doubts in my mind. I shut my eyes and focused on my breathing, in and out.

Oh my god, I can't get this stupid song stuck outta my head. Stupid old spice remix...

Fine, skip the meditation. I'll be fine without it. Probably. Instead, I'll just go right to what I do best and that's imagining things. I've always been good at that sorta thing. Back in elementary school, I got an award for 'Imagineering.' I prided myself on that for a couple of months. Maybe a year. It was a long time ago so I honestly don't really know how long I kept that pride in mind. So, still with my eyes shut, I began to 'dream,' even though it wasn't really dreaming. And I know just what to 'dream' about.

"This is a nice view," I said while looking at the orange sky and the setting sun. "Wouldn't you say so, Shogun?"

I look to my right and see a Dewott, whom I named Shogun, sitting by my side and staring at the sunset with me. He simply nods, smiles, and answers back with a little "Dew."

I smile back at him and look back at the beautiful setting sun.

"This is the dream life…" I relax and lie in the grassy meadow, closing my eyes and seeing myself in a third person view. This is the dream life…

That it would be, the dream life.

It's been long enough that I would be going to sleep in just a minute or so. My body's relaxed and ready for it. So I took to the final step of lucid dreaming. A mantra.

"I am dreaming," I said to myself. To speak it is to believe it.

"I am dreaming," I said again, barely a whisper.

"I am dreaming."

"I am dreaming."

I am dreaming.

And like that, I felt the world give way under me as my whole body was plunged into a warm sea with light filtering through the surface.

Is this… lucid dreaming? I thought to myself. A strange grogginess is fogging up my mind and slowing down my thinking a bit.

Was this water… carbonated? It feels fizzy. Like sparkling water.

… I wonder why my skin is turning white…

… I think… I'll just close my eyes… For a little…

...

Darkness.

"Oh, come on! Just give me a chance, please? I wanna learn how to fight and survive and go into mystery dungeons!" A Squirtle pleaded and begged to a Bisharp, both of them living in the same two-story home.

"No, you and I both know that we don't have any reason to fight around here so we don't have any reasons to learn how to fight! We haven't got any mystery dungeons or wild Pokémon to appear in a hundred or so years." Bisharp replied.

"But-"

"No buts!" she interrupted.

This Squirtle, being taken care of by his mother-figure Bisharp, could only groan and go up to his room to lie on his bed of hay. He punches the floor and heaves a deep breath in and out to relax. He sits up and crosses his arms and starts talking to himself. "It's not fair! Why does Bisharp get to know how to fight? All the Pokémon I've read about knew how to fight! They even got to go to a guild and go on rescue missions! Why am I the only one who can't do that?!"

Bisharp opens the door, out of patience from hearing all this down on the first floor of the house. "I think you need some time to relax. Go outside and go to the beach or something, take your mind off of this, okay?" There was a hint of bitterness in her voice but she was honest nonetheless.

The water-type crosses his arms and pauses for a moment. In the end, he sighs and says "Fine," and walks out the door, down the stairs, and outside to go on his way to the beach as the steel-type suggested.

He mumbles to himself on the way there. "Stupid Bisharp, why can't I just learn something cool for once? All those Pokémon in the stories… they must've loved it. Why do I have to live in this…" He kicks a small pebble in front of him. "Stupid Kyfu Town… never getting any action… so sick of this dumb place..."

After a couple minutes, he was away from the town. He felt sand touch his feet as he stared into the darkening sky with its sunset. The Squirtle breathes a sigh as he sits down on the sand, staring at the beautiful sunset. He smiles, knowing that Bisharp knew that this was a nice place to go when you were feeling stressed out. To his right, it was just more sand as far as the eye can see as well as the ocean. To his left, a big rock embedded in the sand. The Squirtle watches as the sunset dwindles to nothing as it descends through the horizon. As it does, the water-type smiles as all of his worries seem to disappear. He was still a bit upset about not being able to learn how to fight- he only knows how to use Bubble, and he's not at all good at it.

He lies down on the sand as he watches the first few stars of the night begin to appear. "Sigh… I just wish that I could go on some cool adventure… get some action… and have fun with it," he said to no one in particular. "... But it's not gonna happen. Not as long as I stay in Kyfu Town." Unbeknownst to him, a shooting star just so happened to be passing by in the night sky. And his little wish was about to come true.

The Squirtle sighs again and picks himself up, ready to go back home. He gives one last look over the horizon before turning around and back to his house. But before he takes his first step, the ground rumbles beneath him. "Wh-whoa, wha- oof!" He falls on his back as the earth shakes. "What's going on?!" Just as quickly as the shaking appeared, it vanished. Picking himself back up and dusting off his shell, the water-type looks around to see if anything changed. As luck would have it, the first thing he sees is that the rock has opened! It's like a doorway just popped up on it, leading to darkness below. The turtle Pokémon is gawking at this, jaw dropped.

"No way a mystery dungeon just popped up…" The Squirtle looks around again, seeing if anyone else is nearby. Seeing that the coast is clear, he slowly goes up to the rock. In the doorway, he looks around one last time before he descends the stairs…

… only to be somewhat disappointed as this is the only floor. The Squirtle looks around at the cavernous walls, the floor, the ceiling… These things overshadowed that disappointment. One floor was better than no floors, right?

"Whoa… so this is a mystery dungeon?" he said to himself. He was gawking at everything until he got his eyes centered on the far end of the cavern. There, in front of a running river of water with some weird sparkles in it, lies an unconscious Eevee, drenched in water. "An… Eevee?" the Squirtle said to himself. "But… aren't Eevee supposed to be… brown?" Indeed, this Eevee was a more silvery color than brown. Sparkles seemed to come off of the Pokémon along with droplets of water.

"Mmph…" the Eevee moans a bit, moving a bit as it begins to wake up.

"G-gah!" The Squirtle steps back, knowing that this Pokémon was about to get up and start attacking him.

"Wh-where… Am I…?" the Eevee said, getting up and looking around. It puts a paw to its head and rubs it. "When did I get here…?"

"S-stay back, wild Pokémon! I will n-not hesitate to f-f-fight you!" The water-type is determined… but afraid. He hopes this bluff will work and the Eevee won't fight. Wild Pokémon don't normally speak, though…

The Eevee takes a moment to notice him, cocking his head in confusion. "Pokémon?" The silvery being looks at their paw. "... I don't feel so good…" it says as it drops back to the floor.

The Squirtle, clearly surprised by this, decides to go forward with caution. With the Eevee in front of him, he looks it over and nothing seems to be out of place and no real damage has been applied to it. "Let's get you to town. See what we do with you." With a grunt and some force, he picks up the unconscious Pokémon and, slowly, begins to take him back to Kyfu Town.

Bisharp was finally finished making a late night dinner for her and her adopted son, so to speak. It was a simple meal but she didn't bother making it fully until now while the Squirtle was out and about. A couple of oran berries to make a juice, some chopped cheri and pecha for a sweet & spicy mix, and a side of lum for a bit of a change-up. The lum berry was hard to find. "I swear, that Squirtle gives me more trouble than it's worth sometimes." With dinner set up, all she needs to do is wait for-

Knock knock knock

-that. "Hold your Ponyta, I'm coming." Bisharp goes to the door and comes to a surprise as she sees the familiar turtle with a silvery, sparkly Eevee heavily carried in his arms.

The Squirtle doesn't say anything, too focused on carrying the normal-type.

"... Come inside. Explain later." Bisharp picks up the Eevee into her arms, careful not to damage the Pokémon with her blades, as she makes her way upstairs with the Squirtle to let them rest on her bed of hay.

"Bisharp, I-"

"Explain later, I said. Right now I need to tend to this little one." Bisharp makes her way downstairs again, but, before she does, she says, "Keep an eye on them while I go get some supplies." With that, she goes out of sight.

The water-type sits down in front of the Eevee. "Seriously, though… Why are you white?"

The Eevee stirs with a grunt as it begins to wake up once more.

The water-type is startled a bit but assumes it's safe as he shakes the Eevee up a bit. "Hey… Wake up. Are you okay?"

"Ugh… My head…" the normal-type says, bringing a paw to their head like last time.

"You alright? I found you alone in- uh, on the beach passed out."

"Hm? … I… Don't know if I'm okay, but I think… I think I'm fine, I guess."

"That's a relief. You gave us, Bisharp and I, quite a scare."

"Oh. Um, sorry about that."

"Don't sweat it! It's not your fault."

"... So…" The Eevee looks around at their unfamiliar surroundings. "Where am I now?"

"You're in Bisharp's house, in Kyfu Town."

"So then this is… a world of Pokémon…?"

The Squirtle scratches the back of his head. "Uh, yeah. You fall on a rock or something?"

"No, but I did fall into the ocean… I think," the normal-type replies with a chuckle.

"Then how about we get to introductions. What's your name?"

"My name?"

"Yeah! Unless, you don't have one…"

"Oh, no, I have a name."

"Really? What is it, then?"

"It's…" the Eevee then looks a little confused. "Um… shoot, maybe I did hit a rock after all."

"Hm? Why's that?"

"I can't remember my name. I can remember a lot of things but… the names of everyone I've met, even myself, just seem to give a blank."

"That's a bummer… I hope you get your memories back."

"Thanks," the Eevee says with a smile.

"And, if you can't get your name back, I'll just have to make one for you."

"I think I'd like that."

Silence passes for a moment.

"... So, uh, do you have a name?" the Eevee asks.

"Me?"

"See anyone else around?"

"Guess not, so you are referring to me," he says with a chuckle. "You can call me Sean."
