Enter Jacen, Danni, and Booster, on the Falcon.

After tired from pacing anxiously in the cargo hold, Jacen and Danni decide to disembark from the ship and have a picnic in the park.

Booster. Stay where I can see you.

Jacen. What are we, kids?

Booster. Kids are baby Gran. They're cute, and they have redeeming social value. You are definitely not kids.

Jacen and Danni disembark from the ship.

Exit Booster.

Setting up a picnic beneath a bindoin tree, Danni uses her cornucopia to summon an entire meal: sliders, canned fizzee, fresh fruit, and a naming day sweetcake.

Danni. [frowns] Is it someone's naming day?

Jacen. I wasn't going to say anything.

Danni. Jacen.

Jacen. There's too much going on. And honestly . . . before last month, I didn't even know when my naming day was. Jaina told me the last time she was at the Praxeum.

Danni. The first of July. The sol'yc of July.

Jacen. Yeah. [smirks] The Imperials would find that auspicious — the first day of the month named for Jonash e Solo, Lumiya's sacred day. Yippee.

Danni. Sixteen?

Jacen. [nods] Oh, boy. I can get my speeder's license.

Danni laughs.

Danni. Well? Blow out the candles.

As Jacen does so, Danni glances down at the cornuscopa, recalling how she got it.

[aside] I wonder if Clovis has gotten used to having no horns at all. I hope so. Sure, he tried to kill us, but I still feel bad for the old god. I don't understand how such a lonely, depressed spirit could produce a horn of plenty that shoots fruit and sweetcakes. Could it be that the cornucopia drained all the goodness out of him? Maybe now that the horn is gone, Clovis will be able to fill up with some happiness and keep it for himself. I also keep thinking about Clovis's advice: If you had made it to Bastion, the story of the flood would have served you better. I know the story he was talking about. I just don't understand how it will help.

Jacen. I've been thinking.

Danni. [to Jacen] About?

Jacen. The Imperial Remnant. All the years I trained there. We were always pushing teamwork, working as a unit. I thought I understood what that meant. But honestly . . . I was always the leader. Even when I was younger . . .

Danni. The son of Zonama. Most powerful kid in the fleet. You were the star.

Jacen. Being in this crew of seven . . . I'm not sure what to do. I'm not used to being one of so many, well, equals. I feel like I'm failing.

Danni takes his hand.

Danni. You're not failing.

Jacen. It sure felt that way when Tremayne attacked. I've spent most of this trip knocked out and helpless.

Danni. Come on. Being a hero doesn't mean you're invincible. It just means that you're brave enough to stand up and do what's needed.

Jacen. And if I don't know what's needed?

Danni. That's what your friends are for. We've all got different strengths. Together, we'll figure it out.

Jacen studies her.

Jacen. Skywalker was a bastard. I never want to be like that. But I wouldn't have had the courage to stand up to him without your taking the lead. You were the hero that time.

Danni. We can take turns.

Jacen. I don't deserve you.

Danni. You're not allowed to say that.

Jacen. Why not?

Danni. It's a breakup line. Unless you're breaking up . . .

They kiss.

Jacen. No breakups. I may have busted my head a few times, but I'm not that stupid.

Danni. Good. Now, about that sweetcake . . .

Enter Luke, who does not look happy.

Luke, Jacen, and Danni return to the Falcon so that Booster will be able to hear what went down between him, Mara, and the river god Ravelin.

So Mara was kidnapped on a speeder bike by Jellion Broon and Tuatora Lone.

Luke. Not kidnapped, exactly. But I've got this bad feeling . . . [takes a deep breath] Anyway, she's . . . she's gone. Maybe I shouldn't have let her, but . . .

Danni. You had to. You knew she had to go alone. Besides, Mara is tough and smart. She'll be fine.

Luke. Maybe you're right. Anyway, Jellion . . . I mean Ravelin said we had less time to rescue Kyp than we thought. Tahiri and the guys aren't back yet?

Danni checks the ship's chrono.

Danni. It's fourteen hundred. We said fifteen hundred for a rendezvous.

Jacen. At the latest.

Luke indicates Danni's vibroblade.

Luke. Ravelin said you could find Kyp's location . . . you know, with that.

Danni hesitates.

Danni. I've tried. The vibroblade doesn't always show what I want to see. In fact, it hardly ever does.

Luke. Please. Try again.

Danni. [sighs] Fine.

Danni draws her vibroblade.

Booster. While you're at it, see if you can get the latest smashball scores. Imps don't cover smashball worth osik.

Danni. Shh.

As Danni studies a vibroblade, an image of a mass of Imperial officers gathering in a Coruscant apartment appears in the blade. Thrackan appears to be giving a speech, which Tenel Ka stands off to side, looking pained.

Jacen. That's not good. They've already set up a forward base in Galactic City.

Luke. And that map shows Centax.

Jacen. They're scouting the territory, discussing invasion routes.

Danni focuses on the vibroblade again; the image switches to a crumbling Imperial fortress covered with moss and dead vines.

Luke. I was just there. That's in the old forum.

The view zooms in, leading to a modern durasteel gate with a padlock. As she gets a good look at the sylindrical chamber beyond, Danni drops the vibroblade.

Jacen. What's wrong? It was showing us something.

Danni. We can't go there.

Luke. [frowns] Danni. Kyp is dying. We've got to find him. Not to mention, Bastion is about to get destroyed.

Danni forces herself to pick up the vibroblade, revealing the chamber when Kunra and Shoon-mi sit up a pair of thrones. At there side is the blorash jelly prison containing Kyp Durron. Kyp is inert, all the namana fruit eaten.

Jacen. We're too late.

Luke. No. No, I can't believe that. Maybe he's gone into a deeper trance to buy time. We have to hurry.

The vibroblade's surface goes dark.

Danni. We should wait for the others. Tahiri, Jag, and Ben should be back soon.

Luke. We can't wait.

Booster. It's just two Yuuzhan Vong. If you guys want, I can take them.

Jacen. Er, Captain, that's a great offer. But we need you to man the ship.

Booster. [scowls] And let you three have all the fun?

Luke grips Booster's arm.

Luke. Tahiri and the others need you here. When they get back, they'll need your leadership. You're their rock.

Jacen. Yeah. Ben always says you're his rock. You can tell them where we've gone and bring the ship around to meet us at the forum.

Danni. And here.

Danni passed her vibroblade over to Booster.

Keep an eye on us with the blade. And you can check the smashball scores.

Booster nods.

Booster. All right. But if any Vong come this way . . .

Jacen. Feel free to blast them.

Booster. What about annoying tourists?

All. No.

Booster. [scoffs] Fine. Just don't take too long, or I'm coming after you with guns blazing.

Luke, Jacen, and Danni disembark from the ship.

Exit all.
