The Winx Club's Sodor Adventures - Season 1

Episode 7: Thomas Saves the Day

Every day, Sir Topham Hatt came to the station to catch his train.

"Hello," he always said to Thomas and Bloom. "Don't let the silly freight cars tease you. Remember, you both have an important job as special helpers in the train yard."

"Yes, sir," said Bloom.

There were lots of freight cars, and Thomas and Bloom worked very hard, pushing and pulling them into place. There was also a small workmen's coach, and two strange machines that Bloom and the workmen called cranes.

Thomas was curious. "Bloom," he asked her, "what are those strange machines on flatbeds?"

"Oh, that's the breakdown train, Thomas," answered Bloom. "And those machines are cranes. They're used for lifting heavy things like engines, coaches, freight cars and even road vehicles. But they're only used when there's an emergency."

"I see," said Thomas. "I'll remember that."

One day, Thomas and Bloom were in the yard, when suddenly they heard an engine whistling and a fairy screaming.

"Help! Help!"

"Somebody do something!"

A freight train came rushing through much too fast. The engine was James, and he was frightened. His wooden brake blocks were on fire. The fairy that was with him was Bloom's best Friend, Stella, the fairy princess from the realm of Solaria, and the Fairy of the Shining Sun. This was her first day working with James, and she, too, was frightened.

"They're pushing us! They're pushing us!" James panted.

"We want to stop!" Stella screamed.

"On! On!" laughed the freight cars.

And still whistling and screaming "Help, help!", poor James and Stella disappeared.

"What just happened here?" asked Bloom. "And was that Stella on that runaway?"

"Could be. I'd like to teach those freight cars a lesson," said Thomas the tank engine.

Soon came the alarm, and the signalman shouted, "James is off the line! The breakdown train, quickly!"

"Come on, Bloom!" said Thomas, "Let's go help James and Stella!"

"Right!" agreed Bloom. "To the breakdown train!"

Thomas was coupled on, and off they went.

Thomas worked his hardest. "Hurry! Hurry, hurry!" he puffed. He wasn't pretending to be like Gordon and Aisha, he really meant it. "Bother those freight cars and their tricks, I hope poor James and Stella aren't hurt."

"Me too, Thomas," said Bloom. "I hope they're okay."

Meanwhile, in a cow field, Stella and the rest of James' crew were feeling him all over to see if he was hurt.

"Are you alright, James?" asked Stella. "Your paintwork is now ruined, and I hate to see that beautiful red coat wasted by an accident such as this. It really sparkles in the sun with your brass dome."

"Don't worry, Stella," said James, "I've had bad days like this before, but otherwise, I'm alright. How come my brakes have suddenly failed right away?"

"Never mind, James," his crew said, "it was those silly freight cars and your old wooden brakes that caused the accident. We always said they were useless, but they wouldn't listen."

Stella was cross. "Indeed! I shall give a complaint to the men at the Crovan's Gate works about this."

Thomas pushed the breakdown train alongside. Then he and Bloom pulled away the unhurt freight cars.

"Oh, dear! Oh, dear!" they groaned.

"Serves you right! Serves you right!" puffed Thomas and Bloom.

They were hard at work, puffing backwards and forwards all afternoon.

"This'll teach you a lesson! This'll teach you a lesson!" Thomas told the freight cars.

And they answered, "Yes, it will! Yes, it will!"

They left the broken cars. Then, with two cranes, they put James back on the rails. He tried to move, but he couldn't, so Thomas and Bloom helped him and Stella back to Tidmouth Sheds.

Sir Topham Hatt was waiting anxiously for them. "Well, Thomas," he said, "I've heard all about it, and I'm very pleased with you and Bloom. You're a really useful engine. James shall have some proper brakes and a new coat of paint. And you shall have a branch line all to yourself."

"Oh, thank you, sir!" said Thomas.

Now Thomas and Bloom are as happy as can be. They now have a branch line and two coaches called Annie and Clarabel. Thomas puffs proudly backwards and forwards with them, all day.

He is never lonely. Edward, Tecna, Henry and Flora stop quite often at Elsbridge Station and tell him the news. Gordon and Aisha are always in a hurry, but they never forget to say whistle "Hello", and Thomas and Bloom always whistle back in return.
