Jennifer Keller was finally having a moment with her son from the future, in the kitchen where Alpha team tasted Bernard's jams before the visitors from the other timeline arrived. They were sitting at the table Alpha used, facing each other.
Jordan McKay sipped a bottle of soda and looked happy about that. He explained, seeing his mother's curious look, "I know it's not a healthy drink, but it feels so good to have one of these - he lifted the bottle - after many years."
Jennifer understood how hard it must have been for her son, seeing how this bottle was making him joyful. The lady gave a benevolent look and sipped her tea.
Jordan spoke again, "I'm sorry I haven't talked to you earlier."
"That's okay." Jennifer replied with a soft smile. "I thought you needed some time and space. This situation is very strange."
Jennifer's son nodded and smiled. He confessed, "In fact, I really wanted to talk to you way before now, but I didn't know where to start. You and dad died when I was still a teenager. Seeing you standing in front of me in the infirmary and in the cell... It was a shock for me.". McKay looked at his mother and realized, "It must have been a shock for you, too."
The doctor nodded. "I'm glad to see that you made it out alive." she said, sliding her right hand onto the table to hold her son's left.
Jordan smiled, happy to feel his mother's hand on his again, happy to discuss with his mother again, and happy that she could see the adult he had become (despite the strange circumstances). He wished it could last forever. Jennifer smiled, too. Silence filled the room, the mother and the son from the future staring at each other tenderly.
Young McKay suddenly became sad, remembering how he could make it out alive. "Colonel Galvez saved my life. There was chaos everywhere. Bombings, shots, people running in all directions, yelling, crying, and fighting to get through the gate."
The doctor noticed tears in Jordan's eyes. She wanted to tell him he didn't have to talk about that, but the man seemed ready to confide as he continued his story.
"I lost almost everyone I knew. You and dad, aunt Jeannie and her family, John, the people from the SGC, Alpha, the O'Neills, the Jacksons except Savannah, Radek, and so many others."
"I'm so sorry." Jennifer said, horrified.
Jordan paused to sip his soda. He spoke again, looking at the bottle, lost in his thoughts, "Hopefully, Philip survived. Hopefully, I had him, Savannah, Teyla, and Ronon."
McKay from the other timeline stopped contemplating the bottle. He held Jennifer's hand. She could see a glimmer of hope in the man's eyes now.
Indeed, there was.
"Hopefully, we can change this today." Jordan McKay affirmed, much more motivated in that kitchen than he had been in that cell.
