Chapter Two - They Tell Me I'm A God
As the two reunited and the blonde crying of tears from relief that their dear friend had been alive and well, everything had been set for Marinette's plan. And as if on cue, the door to the medical bay opened, revealing a very tired Alya and Luka.
"What's all the racket down here-" He rubbed his eyes and as his vision focused, he met eyes with the girl he once loved. Alya gasped and looked at Luka, who ran out the bay to get the others that had been sleeping.
Marinette planted a sweet kiss on Adrien's cheek, wiping his tears with her tears and smiled brightly, his emerald eyes glowing with love and comfort as he finally was in the arms of his other half.
He wasn't sure how long he last felt the warmth of her, her sweet kisses and even the sound of her lovely voice. It felt like a dream, like it hadn't been real but he was afraid if it was then he'd wake up. Wake up from hugging the love of his life and back into the nightmare of worrying whether she was alive.
Unknowingly to him, it wasn't the first time Marinette has seen him since she disappeared. No matter what side she was on or who she became in those months, she still loved him and cared for him. A weakness Hawkmoth used against her for the sake of his plans.
And while Alya came back into the medical bay with the others who cried and smiled as they hugged the missing girl, she wasn't the same girl who left months ago.
No, the girl had changed for the worst and neither of them noticed a change among the overflowing sea of emotions that poured that evening.
Marinette sighed, dragging her fingertips along the antiques and fine wood of the building. Remembering each and every statue and jewel the came about from their missions around the world.
Caught up in reminiscing, she hadn't noticed the blond leaning on the doorway with his arms crossed and a slight smile to his face.
He was admiring her just as before. The memories bringing a wider smile to his face as he walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek and looked at the antiques.
"The gemstone from Greece." He pointed out as she took the precious gem into her hands and examined it. "A mission Nino and Kagami helped me with a few weeks ago. It was beautiful."
She returned a smile and set the gem back in the glass box, she had been the reason sending those three to Greece. "I bet."
"I want to take you sometime. You know, after all this is over." He took her hand and softly kissed it, deciding to wait by the doorway as she continued to look around.
"Is she still.." Adrien nodded as he glanced at Luka who yawned and sighed, leaning on the other side of the doorway.
"Does she seem a bit different to you?" The blond questioned in a low tone as the other boy looked at her and rested his head against the door frame.
"Well, no I guess. She might've gone through something those last few months, give her some time to adjust." Luka patted his shoulder and walked off, smiling as Chloe came up and waved at Adrien before disappearing around the corner with Luka's arm around her shoulder and hers around his waist.
"When did they start dating?" Marinette asked as she walked into the hallway with Adrien, holding hands as she looked at the canvases that decorated the walls.
He thought about it for a moment before answering, "About 2 or 3 months after you disappeared. They had been working separate jobs but Chloe jeopardized her identity to save him. Ever since, they've been each other's partners for every mission they work on. Most of them, they work with Kagami, Nino or Alya. But they always had each other to count on."
As he spoke with admiration for the two, she smiled. Reminding her of the times when the same could be said about her and the blond. But even after Marinette's disappearance, the city hadn't lost hope.
Thanking and even took pictures with the newly formed team of Miraculous but still deeply worried for their spotted heroine.
"I see you've grown quite fond of them." They made their way down to the main room after grabbing some breakfast from the kitchen, popping a strawberry into the blond's mouth as he nodded.
"We've all grown closer with each other than we were in highschool. We all changed since then." He kissed her head and took a seat on the couch, Marinette taking a spot next to him as the others began walking in and taking their spots as well.
"Was this really a good idea? I mean, what if she turns against us? We would have no way of kno-"
"She won't. She may be of higher power than any of us but she's still under my orders and mine alone." He cut her off, his sight still set on the city below his as both his hands rested on his staff.
She shook her head as she neared the edge. "Do you think she'll go through with it?"
"After all these months of missing, they still trust her. If anyone can get me Chat Noir's miraculous then it's her. He still has the affection for her for as long as we fought." He spared no glance at the fox, her words lingering in her mind as she scowled silently.
Lila knew no matter who or what had gotten in the way, they still loved and cared for each other. She despised it, maybe it was jealousy or maybe it was in her nature to be bitter about each and every thing but deep down she admired the love they shared.
But, she wondered just how far that love will go.
Worry washed over as she deeply sighed and crouched down, "You forget one thing, Hawkmoth."
"And what's that?" He raised an eyebrow at the girl as she looked up at him with a smirk.
"Not even your orders can control a god like her."
And with that, Lila hopped down the Eiffel Tower and left Hawkmoth wondering what she meant.
Lila landed in a nearby alleyway and strolled down the streets as any other normal civilian. She knew the costs of gambling with someone as dangerous as Marinette but she wouldn't take the chance of being on opposite sides of the bluenette when the plans go wrong.
Call her a double agent but even if she had gotten her abilities from Hawkmoth, she'd always side with a powerful ally. And in this case, it was Marinette.
