"Wait! Why doesn't Ty have to go to school?"
Abby questioned her parents as she sat in front of her breakfast. Ty, who was sitting on the couch with a bowl of cereal, only grinned and did finger guns before grimacing in pain from his pinkie.
"Because his finger needs a few days to properly heal. Don't worry, he'll be back in school with you in no time!"
Harvey Archer replied and winked at his daughter. Abby only rolled her eyes and took a bite of her own cereal. She figured that if her parents were both uncomfortable with sending Ty back after he was "forced to stick his finger in a pencil sharpener", then why would they send her to school? Not only would this make it harder to keep a watch on the house, but Abby would have to monitor the school by herself. Great
Focusing on her bowl, Abby then remembered she'd have to tell Lab Rat she and Ty were in separate places. Sighing, she raised her hand halfway.
"I'm excusing myself for a minute." Abby spoke up and pushed her chair in. Her father only nodded and shuffled through his newspaper. Abby took the opportunity to signal at Ty before sprinting into the bathroom, to which Ty signaled back with a wave of his spoon.
When it came to contacting the agency at her house, Abby found that the bathroom was one of the better places to do so. The only negative sprung from one time when the Director had yelled at her about "Pooping on the job" when he saw a toilet in the foreground. Now Abby would never do such a thing, but she wasn't so sure about her brother.
Locking the door, Abby slipped her grossmeter out of her pocket and dialed up Lab Rat, who looked absolutely exhausted.
"What's up with you?" Abby asked.
"I got- two hours of sleep instead of the usual five.." Lab Rat responded and rubbed at his eyes.
"The usual five?! Nevermind. Ty won't be at school for a few days because of his finger. I'd say maybe two or three to be exact, but I'm not sure."
"Ah, so you're going solo today?" Lab Rat managed to laugh, "I'll tighten the security at your place, good luck dealing with your fellow students!"
"Wait, what do you mean?" Abby's expression turned serious, "Just how many students know about the Kid Rot incident?"
Lab Rat froze and nervously scratched the back of his neck.
"Well, more than you think. The school cameras some early bird students already gossiping about the whole ordeal. The senior agent, Hannah Halls, is already on the job as a substitute teacher for your second period class. Halls said she saw a few of the teachers talking about the incident as well."
Now it was Abby's turn to freeze in place. Even the teachers knew? This wasn't good in the slightest.
"So, are you suggesting something?" Abby finally spoke after a few seconds of silence.
"If the whole school is focused on Grossology and Kid Rot, and there's a picture of you wearing a slimesuit in the newspaper for everyone to see, a certain former grossologist just might be a bit determined to question you."
Oh
OH
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME HOW ON EARTH COULD I FORGET ABOUT ROGER-" Abby yelled and groaned into her hand. With Ty not around to play peacemaker, Abby figured she'd be spending the day arguing with Roger to get him off her trail. She was determined to keep her identity a secret, and he'd be doing everything he could to figure it out.
"Calm down! If Roger isn't working with Boil, you shouldn't have anything to worry about." Lab Rat held up his hands in surrender and Abby frowned.
"But remember years ago when he set off black mold three times? Roger might be weaker alone, but I don't underestimate him. He'll probably do something hazardous just to get verification."
"Was that when you said the Detective had to carry him over his shoulder?" Lab Rat raised an eyebrow while Abby held back a laugh and tried to remain serious.
"Off-topic but half the stuff that kid does is comedy gold, including the time he blasted me in the face with a goopshooter."
"Roger shot you in the face with a goopshooter?"
"Back to the topic at hand-" Lab Rat held up a hand, "Just keep an eye on Roger Pink-Eye- no pun intended. As for the other students, I don't think they'll be as interested in figuring out your identity."
"Got it!" Abby replied as she heard the sound of knocking on the bathroom door. She waved at Lab Rat, and his face flickered off the screen.
"Abby, it's Ty" Her brother's voice spoke, "Your bus is about to leave!"
"Coming!" Abby unlocked the door and watched as Ty managed to dodge being slammed in the face.
"Hey! Watch it!" Ty yelped before pointing to his own pocket, "So what did you call Lab Rat about?"
"I was just saying you wouldn't be at school for a few days.." Part of Abby felt like she didn't want to involve Ty in the whole situation, after all, Kid Rot couldn't care less about using him as anything but bait.
Before Ty could question his sister, Abby had grabbed her backpack and was out the door. Ty bit his lip and made his way back to the couch, clearly noticing something was up. For now, he decided to leave matters into Abby's hands.
"Andy, I need you to do me a favor!"
The boy in question was just about to take a seat when Abby piped up from her spot on the bus.
"Huh? Where's Ty?" Andy replied.
"It's a long story, but can you sit by me? Please?"
Andy raised an eyebrow at Abby's attempt of a puppy face before slowly taking a seat next to her. This was weird.
"So uh, about Ty.." Abby started, "He injured his finger in an electric pencil sharpener-"
"Wait HOW did Ty hurt his finger in a pencil sharpener!?"
"He was forced." Abby held up a hand and Andy closed his mouth.
"He won't be coming to school for a few days, so can you sit by me today?"
That explanation confused Andy as he remained silent for a few seconds, before his eyes lit up and he grabbed his backpack.
"Kind of unrelated, but did you hear about what happened at school yesterday?" He smiled and pulled out a familar newspaper and Abby sucked in a breath.
"Isn't that cool? A grossologist was at our school!" While Andy seemed happy knowing justice was being served at Ringworm, Abby bit her fingernail and winced when her teeth bit the skin.
"Did you see what the fight was like? Some student who was there recorded it!"
"Uhh yeah! Super cool haha!" Faking a laugh, Abby ransacked her brain for ways to change the subject, but was met with a statement from Andy first.
"Now that I think about it, that grossologist kind of looks like you!"
Startled, Abby coughed into her hand and managed to let out another fake laugh.
"Me? A grossologist? That would be funny!"
"I know, right? That's such a funny coincidence!" Andy laughed alongside Abby and the grossologist managed to relax for a moment. Now she'd just have to make it through the day without someone making any connections between the picture and her
Speaking of making connections...
Abby scowled as the bus pulled up beside Roger's house, where the boy stood outside with a mini microphone and a camera in hand. Seriously? An early morning on a school day and low and behold Roger Pink-Eye was already planning on the numerous ways to stalk Abby.
"Ugh.." Abby whispered under her breath while Andy kept on chattering about the grossologist from yesterday. It was clear somebody wasn't helping the situation. Well, if Abby was going to deal with this she might as well mess around first.
"Andy, I bet you ten dollars that Roger is going to sit in the seat across from us. Are you in?"
Andy, who wasn't stupid in the slightest, shook his head and looked outside.
"That's a loosing bet. I could just offer you the money instead."
Abby laughed and waved a hand. Andy was generous and she didn't like messing with him. Now on the other hand..
"Hey, Roger! Having fun setting up your microphone to listen in on my private conversations? Do you want me to destroy your eardrums again?" Abby taunted as Roger took his seat across from her.
"No thanks! Besides, that's not a very respectable thing to do. I thought grossologists were supposed to HELP citizens!" He fired back and switched on his camera.
"Yeah, and I'm not a grossolgist so I DON'T have to play by their rules!" Abby rolled her eyes at the camera while poor Andy only sunk into his seat in an attempt to avoid the argument.
"Oh really? I thought you looked pretty similar to the grossologist in the newspaper. I wonder why?"
"I dunno! Maybe I have a CLONE or something running around!" Abby cracked her knuckles. She could keep the argument going all day as long as Roger kept up his antics.
As the two gingers yelled insults at one another, Andy slipped his phone out of his backpack and sent a text to Ty.
'Your sister is duking it out with Roger and I'm stuck in the middle! Any advice?'
Back at the Archer house, Ty groaned at Andy's text and face palmed.
"How did I forget about Roger?" Ty whispered and hovered his good hand over his phone's keyboard.
Ty had been so proud of Abby and Roger's progress with their relationship over the past few years. Ever since Abby's clone was defeated, Abby had started being nicer to Roger and in return, Roger's efforts to find out the Archer's secret identities had dwindled down. Now everything was flushed down the toilet all thanks to Kid Rot.
"Why do I always have to be the middle man around here?" Complaining, Ty sent a text back to Andy.
'Just try and keep them separated. U know- like when animals argue on TV and they eat with a babygate between them lol.'
Stifling a laugh, Ty placed his phone down just as the news channel blared on TV and he was greeted with a blurry picture of his sister fighting against Kid Rot. The news reporter started going off about how a grossologist was seen at Ringworm High while Ty went back into his depressed state.
"Why me.."
"WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BACK OFF YOU BACTERIA INFECTED BRAT!"
"YOU'RE THE ONE WHO STARTED THIS!"
Andy tried to duck behind Abby, who was leaning over him to launch a piece of paper right at Roger's head. In response, Roger had thrown a piece of cheese that smelt like death to stinkbomb Abby, but it had landed in Andy's hair instead. A few of the other bus passengers were standing on the edge of their seats to watch the fight, and Andy could only hope they'd arrive at school soon enough.
The bus driver's hands shook as the chaos behind him almost threw him off course. Anger pulsed through his veins as he honked his horn and yelled.
"ARCHER, PINK-EYE, SIT YER GREASY BUTTS IN YER SEATS AND SHUT UP!"
Abby stood still and slid back into her seat, her face bright red. She hadn't gotten in trouble with the bus driver before, and was more scared than she'd like to admit.
On the other hand, Roger was hunched over in his seat and talking to himself. It was mostly incomprehensible, but Andy made out the words "Jerk" and "Remember".
The rest of the bus ride was in an awkward silence, and Andy couldn't tell if he was uneasy or grateful.
A/N: Now presenting, the world biggest argument staring Abby and Roger! They're such a fun duo to write together and their dynamic in Pinkeye's revenge pt 1 is pretty interesting, especially with how much nicer Abby is to Roger in the second part.
Andy makes his second appearance! I feel super bad for making him deal with this whole thing, and I'll try and make it up to him in a future chapter.
That's all for now! Thank you for reading!
