Epilogue

Sunday was a bright, sunny day and the Leland clan was sitting outside on the patio drinking pre-dinner drinks. Anne had already raised her mother's eyebrow with her dress choice and Myles had been questioned in great detail as to why he hadn't been involved in a particular high profile case by his father.

"And you haven't even found Richard yet," said his mother suddenly interrupting his father's disappointment. "It was nearly three weeks ago that I asked you to look into his disappearance and apart from a tiny flurry of activity at the beginning you have done nothing except take a holiday. I do wish that you would put more effort into things Myles." Myles looked at Anne and they rolled their eyes. "Is he coming today?" she whispered, referring to Richard. Myles shrugged, "I have no idea. I really hope he does though and not only so that he can take the heat away from us for a while."

"I need to check on dinner, come with me Anne," Elizabeth Leland stood up then put her head to one side, puzzled. "I can hear voices, who can that be? Are you expecting anyone Philip?"

Before Philip could deny any knowledge, Richard, Olivia and Katia came around the side of the house.

"Richard!" exclaimed Elizabeth. "Where have you been? I've been worried sick about you. I even asked Myles to look for you, not that he was much use. And who is this with you?" she paused for breath.

Hi Ma and Pops, it's good to see you," began Richard.

"Please don't call us those awful names, if you don't want to say Mother and Father then call us by out Christian names" groaned Elizabeth. "Now introduce me, properly."

"Mother, Father this is Olivia, my wife, and Katia our daughter," said Richard proudly. His parents just stared. "Anne could we have some refills here, I think I may have broken our parents." he added sheepishly.

It didn't take long for Elizabeth to recover and she quickly demonstrated where Richard and Myles got their interrogation techniques from. Before long she knew everything about Olivia and Katia and the realisation that she had a grand daughter prevented her from berating Richard for keeping her in the dark about his family for all those years.

As the sun began to set, and dinner began to spoil, the Leland family sat and chattered in a way that they hadn't done for many years. Elizabeth sat, contentedly, on a sofa with Katia on her knee and hugged her closely, "Now, Myles and Anne," she began. "Isn't it about time that you both settled down and gave me some grand children as well? You know, work isn't everything you ought to take a page out of Richards book and think about a family of your own!"

Anne and Myles looked at each other their mouths twitching in amusement and said, "Golden child!"
