This chapter mostly contains The Doctor and Rose.
In the large open plan kitchen, Rose helped to dry the mugs while her mum washed them. Outside in the garden she could see her little brother Tony in the seating area working on something. Rose presumed he was doing his homework and that made her think of her own situation. How was their future Little One going to be educated? Where would the child be schooled considering she and The Doctor often travelled and got in trouble half of the time. What if it was dangerous to travel with a baby and what if something bad happened to it?
All these possibilities and more were suddenly swimming around in her Mind. The Doctor must have sensed her worries because she suddenly felt a sense of calm from him. The blonde silently thanked him for helping her, a hint of a smile appearing. It was probably the first time she had thought about all the issues that came with parenthood, but she couldn't wait to meet the Little One in eleven months time.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Jackie interrupted her musings and Rose could feel bouts of amusement from her.
"Just thinking." She replied.
"About what?" Her mum questioned.
Rose looked over at Jackie and realised this was the right moment to tell her mum. But just as she was about to tell her, Tony came in from the garden and went straight for the fridge. He opened its door and pulled out a can of fizzy pop that Rose couldn't recognise.
Jackie turned her attention to her young son. "I hope you've finished your homework young man." She spoke to him rather sternly.
Tony sighed. "I just needed a break." He whined.
"You've had far too many breaks from your homework this weekend as it is," Jackie told him off. "Suddenly taking off with your…friends didn't help either!"
Rose watched her mum and her little brother arguing over homework. It reminded her of the time she and her mum would argue about the same thing. And it was still the right time to tell her mother, even with her brother here. "I'm pregnant!" She blurted out and watched as her two family members ceased their arguing and looked at her.
"How far along?" Jackie asked her which left her puzzled.
"Just a couple of months." Rose answered her, frowning when she felt bouts of realisation from her mum and Tony. Did that mean they… "You already knew!" Rose picked up and she could sense it had caught The Doctor's attention.
Jackie nodded her head as Tony sat down at the breakfast bar. "That this is the moment you tell me you're pregnant with my first future grandchild?" She said with a happy looking grin. "Yes, we already knew. We just weren't sure if this was the right time." She picked up a tea towel and dried her hands with it as a way to distract herself. "When I returned to this Universe with Pete and Tony, an older version of you and The Doctor were waiting for us…along with several of the grandkids."
Rose gasped, yet she didn't feel all that surprised that she'd have more than one child. It sounded like she and The Doctor were going to have one hell of a pack. There was a sense of love and adoration from the Time Lord sent Rose's way. And because she felt the same way she sent the same thing back at The Doctor. "But you called me on my mobile." She said.
Jackie nodded. "Which I've called dozens of times since being here. I just didn't expect to get you at your earliest." She replied. "Bloomin' Time Travel!"
Rose grinned at this. Classic Jackie Tyler. A big smile also appeared on her mum's face and she suddenly found herself enveloped in her arms in a loving hug. Rose hugged her mum in return.
"Congratulations sweetheart," Jackie spoke to her daughter. "You're going to be a brilliant mother. You and The Doctor are natural parents."
Rose smiled gratefully at her mum's words. It was something she appreciated as they ended the hugs. "I'll be coming to you for more parental tips."
Jackie chuckled. "Of course you will." She replied. "Now excuse me. They'll be wanting more tea."
Rose helped Jackie make more cups of tea, then Jackie returned to the office with her tray of teas. Meanwhile, Rose turned her attention to her little brother. She sat down beside him in a spare stool. "And how are you doing, Tony?" She asked him. "How well are you settled?"
The youngster was silent for awhile, thinking. "I'm okay." He replied.
"Except?" Rose picked up after she felt bouts of conflict from him.
"Except this universe is weird," Tony answered truthfully, looking at his sister. "It's not the Republic, but the United Kingdom. There's still a Monarchy because Queen Victoria wasn't assassinated."
Rose grinned at this. "I know, we were there." She stated and kept grinning when she sensed amusement from The Doctor. "Who's the current King or Queen in this Century?"
Sighing, Tony rolled his eyes, remembering the story about the Werewolf his sister had told him when he'd been small. "It's a King," he answered Rose's question. "King Archibald Mountbatten-Windsor." The boy frowned, appearing to be in deep thought. "And there's these huge metal things called 'Air Planes' that don't look all that safe. How do they even stay in the sky like that?"
Rose shrugged her shoulders. "Do you know why that is?" She questioned him. "Why there are planes instead of Zeppelins?"
Tony nodded his head. "Because the Hindenburg crashed and no more attempts were made to test out more zeppelin flight." A look of determination appeared on his face. "When I'm older I want to create safer travel that's green and clean."
Rose smiled over her little brother's concern about the environment. "Then you better put your thinking cap on!" She told her brother and put her arm around his shoulders in a one armed hug.
Tony giggled and hugged his sister in return. He looked at Rose's barely showing stomach with a thoughtful look. He silently wondered which one she was pregnant with? The responsible one? Or maybe it was the trouble making one? Or could it even be the fun one. "I can't wait to meet your baby." Tony said out loud.
Rose's smile grew bigger. "Me too!" She replied, putting her hand on her stomach. "But it's going to be a long couple of months." She sighed out.
Fifteen minutes and thirty six minutes later the discussion in Pete's office ended once it was agreed that the Time Travellers could go over to the United States to sort out the mess the Fire-Bird had caused. But they had to be careful about it because International Relations with the States had soured so badly that the States had become a hostile country. There weren't many tourists who visited the U.S anymore.
The Doctor stood up, along with everyone else, but waited until his family members left the room so that he could speak to Jackie and Pete on their own. "I wondered if I could have a word with the both of you." he requested, feeling so nervous he was rubbing the back of his neck constantly.
"Sounds serious." Pete uttered.
A nervous chuckle came from The Doctor followed by a worried smile. "It is," he replied. "I know the Human tradition of getting permission lies with the father, but since Rose was brought up by her mother, I wanted to ask the both of you first."
Pete stared at the Time Lord with wide-eyed realisation.
Meanwhile, Jackie looked genuinely confused. "What on Earth would you need permission for?" She asked, puzzled.
Pete groaned and looked at his wife with a hint of a smile. The Doctor let out another chuckle, the nerves melting away. Typical Jackie Tyler.
"What?" She asked, still confused as she looked from The Doctor to Pete.
"Jacks, think back to what The Doctor just said!" Pete encouraged his wife.
So she did, and when she did figure it out she gasped and put her hands over her mouth. "Oh my god!" She squealed a high pitched squeal, her blue eyes becoming watery. She remembered Rose telling her that she had married The Doctor, and that she'd get to be a part of it. She just didn't expect it to be on the same day her current Rose told her she was pregnant with her grand-daughter.
"Blimey!" The Doctor winced. "Yes. I'm asking for your permission to have Rose's hand in marriage." He told the Tylers.
Pete nodded his head in confirmation.
"Of course you can, you plum!" Jackie said to him in a rather affectionate way that it left him somewhat disturbed. Even worse was the fact she was going to be his future Mother-in-Law. "Have you got the ring?" Jackie asked him. "Can I see it?" She didn't need to see it as she had already seen it on her future Rose's finger. It had been very pretty.
The Doctor smirked. "Okay." He said and dug about in his pocket. He knew that Jackie knew because he'd listened in to Rose's conversation to her mum about her pregnancy. And if she already knew about their future child, and any other children they might have, then it was likely she knew they were already married in the future. He admired Jackie Tyler for actually keeping her mouth shut for once.
He pulled a small dark brown box from his pocket and the married pair could see several gold Circular symbols on it. They knew they were Old High Gallifreyan, or also known as Circular Gallifreyan.
The Doctor lifted the lid up and showed them the Gallifreyan silver ring with the White Point Star diamond set into it.
"Oh, that's beautiful!" Jackie simpered as she looked at it. "Go on then, go make an honest woman out of my daughter." She said.
The Doctor chuckled. "Thanks, Jackie." He said, putting the box back in his pocket and turning away to exit the office.
The Tylers followed him out.
When he entered the sitting room and open plan kitchen, the Time Lord saw Rose still talking to her little brother. But now they'd been joined by Alexia and Jenny. The Ponds were sat on the comfy chairs, talking. And Jaime and his brother were stood near the garden doorway, hugging each other. He could sense a storm of turmoil from the both of them. That was hardly a surprise considering what they were about to do in the United States.
With the biggest grin ever appearing on The Doctor's face, he turned his attention back on his bond-mate, soon to be fiancée and future wife. With a happy little chuckle he approached his special pink and yellow human plus.
Rose, having felt his happy emotions, turned to him with a puzzled smile. "What's gotten you so happy?" She asked him. She looked even more puzzled when The Doctor took a hold of her hands and gently pulled her off the stool.
"Come with me." He said and they walked over to the garden door.
Jenny stared at her father, wide-eyed. "Holy Rassilon!" She whispered once she saw a vision of the very near future.
"What's going on?" Alexia questioned.
Jaime watched her dad open the door and walk out into the garden, a vision of the future also taking a hold of her. "He's goin' tae do it!" She uttered as she watched her dad and her future step-mum walk up the small concrete steps into the garden.
J.D frowned at Jaime. "What do you mean?" He asked, only to gasp when the vision hit him via their TARDIS-like connection. "Oh!" He uttered. "Ohhh!" He turned to watch his brother and Rose in the garden, noticing they had been joined by the others.
In the middle of the neatly trimmed garden with its pathing stone pathway stood Rose Tyler and The Doctor.
Rose was still trying to figure out what was going on with her Time Lord. "What did you want to talk to my mum and dad about?" She asked him because he had hidden the conversation from her, but had come out with the biggest grin she had ever seen.
The Doctor took in a deep breath and tugged at his ear in a nervous way.
"Doctor?" Rose persisted.
"You know I love you," The Doctor began. "I love you with all my hearts and I have done ever since I first met you."
Rose was smiling now and she showed him how much she adored him via their bond.
The grin on The Doctor's face somehow grew that little bit bigger and his brown eyes softened at the love his Rose had sent him. He really needed to finish this before he got even more nervous. "And I wanted to show you how much I love you the human way," his hand had snuck itself into his pocket and grabbed the decorated box.
Rose was frowning at him now, but she kept silent as she waited for him to continue.
"Considering we've already done it the Gallifreyan way, well most of it, not the full version, not yet anyway…"
Rose sighed. He was rambling now. "Doctor!" She interrupted his babble. "What are you trying to say?" She asked.
The Doctor was silent for a moment before letting out a frustrated huff. "What I'm trying to tell you is…" within an instant his hand was out of his pocket and he was holding the open box in his hands. "…Rose Tyler, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife!" He finally managed to get out.
A shocked Rose stared at the beautiful looking ring with the shiniest sparkling diamond she had ever seen, sat inside a box designed with Circular Gallifreyan that she could understand. She let out a gasp as her eyes began to water, but she felt that something was missing.
"Rose, please, can you give me an answer?" The Doctor sounded nervous so a stunned Rose looked up at him.
And that's when it hit her. He said he wanted to show his love the human way, but he wasn't down on one knee. "Why aren't you on your knee?"
Her question had left him confused until he remembered what other human males did while proposing. "Roooossseee," he moaned out. "I'm a 900 and something year old Time Lord. I don't kneel."
Sighing, the blonde rolled her eyes. "You'll get my answer once you're on your knee!" She told her Time Lord.
The Doctor gasped at her in disbelief. "You don't ask for much, do you!" He muttered, realising what he had to do if he wanted an answer from Rose. The Doctor fell to one knee with a grunt, getting a sense of concern from Rose. He soon winced when he heard catcalling from his brother, Jackie and Amy.
And that's when it came to him that he had a hell of a lot more to say. "Rose Tyler, you helped me through the worst time of my lives. After Gallifrey was destroyed I was alone and hurt. But then you came and brightened my life and made me better…"
Rose was smiling now so he definitely knew he was doing something right.
"…I thought I'd lost you forever to another universe, but then you proved me wrong when you defied all the odds and returned to me. Will you please become my wife and spend forever with me?"
Now Rose was smiling that smile he loved so much. The one he liked to call her 'Rose Tyler Smile'. The one that would often arouse him.
"Doctor," the blonde finally spoke up. "Yes, of course I will!"
The Time Lord let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding and let out a happy little laugh. It felt like such a relief for her to say yes.
Rose sensed this and sighed. "Oh, come here you silly sausage!" She uttered, fell to her knees, grabbed and pulled his head towards her and kissed him passionately.
Surprised, The Doctor returned the kiss just as passionately, showing just how much they loved each other.
They were reminded where they were were by the sound of cheering coming from the open back door from the others who were still watching.
Chuckling to each other, the soon to be married bonded pair pulled back from each other. "I love you, Rose Tyler." The Doctor told her, putting the ring on her finger of her left hand. It fit there perfectly.
"And I love you too, Doctor." Rose replied and pulled The Doctor towards her again.
They returned to the kissing, ignoring all the catcalling. But it was the giggling from the back of the garden that caught their attention. Pulling away again The Doctor and Rose looked over to find a small group of kids, all at varied ages, watching them from the safety of the hedge arches. They looked similar to himself and Rose. The blonde boy, who looked to be about ten, and had similar features to his Fifth self, waved at them with a giggle. They soon melted away into the shadow where the faint wheeze of a TARDIS could be heard.
The Doctor chuckled, but looked to Rose when she gasped.
"Doctor! Were those our…" She was somewhat hesitant to finish the sentence.
"Yes, Rose," The Doctor was happy to confirm. "They were our children, apparently using the TARDIS to come back in Time to watch us get engaged." He could see that Rose was crying but could sense she was happy.
"We've got a Pack!" Rose said, referring to her Bad Wolf nature.
"Yes, we have." The Doctor agreed with a smile. "Come on." Because he'd only been kneeling on one knee he easily sprang up to his feet before helping Rose back to hers.
She was on a high as they walked back towards the house, their arms around each other's waists.
"This calls for a celebration!" Pete stated once they were back inside. He was holding a very expensive bottle of sparkling wine.
But The Doctor shook his head. "Maybe later," he replied. "Once we've sorted out the problem in the United States."
"And some of us don't drink alcohol." J.D added for Alexia's benefit.
Nodding his head in understanding, Pete returned the expensive fizz back to his fridge.
