The word 'scunnered' is Scottish, meaning sick or disgusted.
The name Alex, Alexia, Alexis etc… means 'Defender'.
As they hurried through the park following after Jaime and her intuition, The Doctor noticed the first of the park lights were switching on. And when he looked up at the sky it was turning an orangey-pink. Dusk was coming and they'd soon lose the light.
"It's going to be dark soon," Rose commented as she hurried alongside The Doctor. "And this park is huge."
They'd only come across five other people enjoying the park. And it would likely have a closing time.
"I realise that, Rose," The Doctor replied as he held onto her hand tightly. "But Jaime seems to know where we're going. She would have teleported straight there if she wanted too. I think she's being cautious."
Rose sighed. She understood what The Doctor was saying. She noticed that J.D had caught up with Jaime and was holding her hand as they ran. When she looked around to check on everyone else she saw that Amy and Rory were flagging behind, yet they were also holding hands. Even Alexia and Jenny were holding hands but the human woman was somehow keeping pace with the Time Lady.
If more people had been around this would have definitely given them unwanted attention.
They all suddenly came to a screaming stop when Jaime halted. They were stood close to a children's adventure park. Was what Jaime looking for in there?
"Over there!" Jaime was pointing at something opposite the children's park.
Looking, the troupe saw a large grassy open area between two groups of trees that seemed to keep the light out at all times. It was eerie, almost oppressive. Rose shuddered. It felt like it had been designed this way.
"Are you okay?" The Doctor asked her out of concern.
The blonde shook her head. "There's something off about this. It feels sad, oppressed." Rose replied.
The Doctor raised surprised brows and looked over at his Time Lord daughter. "Jenny, can you feel anything?" He asked because she had been staring at the area Rose and Jaime were staring at. He could sense she was feeling somewhat intimidated.
"It's all blue." Jenny replied.
"Right!" The Doctor muttered and focused on the area between the trees.
It wasn't an entirely empty area. A sawdust track lead to what appeared to be a shack or a hut with an open doorway and no door. Leading away from the side of the hut was a dirt track. And that lead to what looked like stables. But they looked odd, half built and open to the elements. What was even odder was that it and the dirt path was surrounded by the type of cage you'd see in a feeding zoo.
"Jaime, what is that place?" The Doctor asked her. There was something about it he didn't like.
Jaime looked over at him with the most grimmest expression she'd ever had. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" She replied. "But this is as bad as it gets. Tha'…" she pointed at the hut. "…is every male Texan's favourite pass time. But wha' we need right now is in there."
The Doctor frowned thoughtfully and noticed J.D shake his head, a sense of revulsion coming from him. He and Jaime had obviously been talking. "Right, so what you're saying is the worst of humanity can be found in there? And I'm very likely not going to like it." He turned to Rose, Alexia and Amy. "You three might want to stay here."
But Rose shook her head. "No, we all go in together." She said adamantly. "No matter how bad it is."
The Doctor sighed. He really admired her hardiness but he didn't think this was the right time. And it annoyed him so much that he was never listened too. "Fine. But if there's any danger you stay well away from it. Got it?" He didn't want anything harming her or the baby.
"Got it!" Rose replied.
The family approached the hut, that weird oppressive feeling intensifying.
The Doctor noticed a sign by the open doorway. "'Lakeside Park Comfort Station'." He read out loud and frowned.
"What in the love of Sanity is a comfort station?" Alexia wondered out loud.
Whatever was going on with this place it was bleak and depressing.
A scowling Time Lord watched as J.D and Jaime just walked straight in. It was followed by a groan of disgust and a comment. "It stinks in here!" J.D said. He also sounded angry.
"Let's find out shall we?" A stoic Doctor answered Alexia and he walked into the hut, the others following behind.
The inside of the hut was just as bad as the outside. Inside it was drab and barely lit up, the two lights appearing to be on low power. It was clearly designed to be that way as it was harder to see. And J.D was right. It did stink. Of sex, of seminal discharge, of urine and of faeces. But underneath all of that someone had attempted to hide the smell with an air freshener. They didn't do a very good job at it. The sound of gagging caught The Doctor's attention and he looked around in time to see Rose scarper back outside, concerning him.
"I'll go with her," Alexia told him. "I don't think I want to know what's in here." And a disgusted Alexia went back out to check on Rose.
Shaking his head, he and the rest of his Time Travelling family turned a corner into the main area. There were several shocked gasps from Jenny, Amy and Rory. Wide-eyed, The Doctor couldn't believe what he was actually seeing. His brother was glaring away and he could sense his twin was seething.
Meanwhile, Jaime was walking by the row of stalls as if this was all normal.
There were six stalls in a row and in each stall was a man or a woman. The Time Lord could definitely tell one of them was male because all he could see of them was of their back end, their genitals hanging between their wide stanced knelt legs. That person had been locked into a wooden stock at the midsection so you couldn't see the rest of their body.
In the next stall over was a female with short cut brown hair, yet long enough to clump up and become tangled. She too was locked in wooden stocks, but only her hands and head were showing, the rest of her was hidden. In her mouth was a gag keeping her mouth wide open, but her face and eyes looked vacant. She had clearly been used as toilet and he dreaded to think what the flaky stuff was all over the rear of the male. What was happening in here was abhorrent.
"Oh my god!" Amy was heard to exclaim and that woke up the snoozing overseer.
"Oh! Howdy there!" He spoke in a strong Texan accent. "Which one would you like to use? Comfort or bathroom break?"
"Over here!" Jaime called, pointing to a stall at the end of the row. None of them had noticed the Overseer was now standing up at his desk and ready to receive custom.
The Doctor, J.D and Jenny walked over to where Jaime stood and saw a green scaly rear end locked into a wooden stock. Unlike the others there was a weak struggle.
"He's green!" Jenny uttered out of surprise. It had to be one of those creatures that were found in Wales.
"That's a Silurian!" J.D exclaimed and looked at Jaime. "Is that what brought us here?" He asked.
Jaime just nodded her head, the strength of emotions washing over her were overwhelming.
"Are you okay?" The Half-Time Lord asked once he'd sensed her discomfort.
Jaime shook her head. "I'm a wee bit scunnered with all this, and with myself." She muttered.
J.D smiled grimly, understanding what 'scunnered' meant. At least she was owning the consequences of her actions.
They were joined by the Overseer who looked into the stall. "Ahh, yes. The exotic humanoid pet." He said. "They are a good fu-," he noticed there were ladies in the room and quickly amended his language. "They are surprisingly good at giving comfort. So which one of you wants to use it?"
The Doctor scowled at the Overseer, finally acknowledging him. This man had a lot of arrogance about him. "They're not pets, they're people. Homo Reptilia and they belong on this planet just as much as you do. And how is it that in any way a comfort to him?" The Doctor pointed at the Silurian's backside. He heard and ignored a groan from Jaime.
The Overseer stared back at The Doctor in disbelief. Then he laughed. "Don't tell me you're one of those lot that think these reptiles have rights, jobs and homes?" He laughed again, quite humoured now. "Oh no, no, no, no!" He shook his head. "The only thing they're good for is this and other menial work. That is serving under us humans."
The entire troupe were glaring at him now but he didn't seem to notice this. Or he was just ignoring them.
"Oh, Lordy!" He chuckled and remembered their accents weren't like his. "Hey, you're not from around here are you?" He asked. They had sounded British, or maybe Scottish. He put his hand on his weapon. "We don't get many visitors to our country these days. All airports are shut down to international travel. So how did you get in?"
He glared at the group suspiciously before hearing a voice echo through his Mind. He blinked dumbly and could have sworn somebody spoke just now. Now he found himself returning to his desk and sitting back down. And why was his taser in his hand at the highest possible setting? He turned it on himself and everything went black.
The Doctor looked on in horror as the Overseer slumped over in his chair. "What did you do that for?" He questioned Jaime as Rory hurried over to check on the man.
"Wha'?" Jaime glared at The Doctor. "Would ye have preferred he drown himself in the Lake?"
The Doctor shook his head. No, he wouldn't have wanted that.
"He's jus' stunned anyway. He'll be okay in an hour." Jaime added.
Rory confirmed that the Overseer was okay and returned to the group. "We need tae get him out of here, 'cause I think he's important." She said about the Silurian and was about to blast the locks with telekinesis when J.D used his Sonic Screwdriver to bust the locks.
Both Jaime and J.D helped the disoriented and violated Silurian out of the stall. The Time Travellers noticed he wore a dark grey collar around his neck. It had a chunky electronic bit with flashing lights.
"What's that?" Rory asked.
"It's a GPS collar," was Jaime's answer. "It also blocks their abilities, keepin' 'em 'tame'." She placed her hands on the electronic part of the collar. "The humans get a normal GPS collar. They used tae get GPS chipped in their body but tha' was outlawed. I suppose tha's the only good thing The Fire-Bird ever did here." She closed her eyes and concentrated her Cyberkinesis into the collar.
Meanwhile, The Doctor had recruited Jenny in rescuing the rest of the slaves using their Screwdrivers. Then they gently helped each slave out of the stall and urged them to run, to escape. But to The Doctor's dismay all the slaves crawled to each other and huddled up. Some of them seemed to be humping each other.
"What are they doing? Why aren't they escaping?" Amy questioned.
"Because their Minds have long since been broken." A new voice spoke up. It had a hint of American though the rest sounded Welsh.
The family turned their attention to the Silurian sat on the dingy floor. Jaime tossed the broken collar on the floor. "You won't get any sense from them. Not anymore."
Rory furrowed a puzzled brow. "What about you? Why aren't you broken like them?"
A smirk appeared on the Silurian's face despite everything he had been through. "Maybe because I'm not human." He replied.
A curious Doctor was about to ask the Silurian a question when an alarm went off.
"Argh! What is that?" Amy shouted over the noise, putting her hands over her ears.
"That's the escape alarm. Slave Enforcers will be here within five minutes." That meant they had to get out of the park, sharpish.
The Doctor was going to suggest going back to the TARDIS, but the Silurian had other ideas. "Come, follow me. I know some place we can go!" He said.
The Time Travelling family agreed and they and the Silurian scarpered out of the so-called Comfort Station.
Dusk had fully set in, lights blazing away in the park, but the Silurian and the Time Travellers kept to the shadows. They could hear the approach of the Enforcers sirens in the distance as they raced to the park to stop a possible crime in progress.
To take his Mind off the impending danger, The Doctor, who was firmly gripping Rose's hand, decided to question the Silurian. "So, what's your name?" He asked as they made their way through the park.
"My owners called me Max," answered the Silurian. "But my real name is Malohah." He stopped when he neared an entrance to the park and appeared to check if it was safe. His rescuers, who had risked their lives and freedom for a complete stranger, waited patiently behind him. He didn't know them but he'd soon know their names.
"Okay, so how did you end up in that place?" The Doctor further questioned. It took awhile for Malohah to reply that The Doctor thought he was avoiding the question. Well, he couldn't really blame the poor Silurian after what he'd just been through.
"I was a pet, my entire family were pets," Malohah eventually replied, a scowl of disgust on his scaly face. "My parents told me and my siblings that we are the most powerful Beings on this planet. But the authorities of this country would rather treat us like pets and Dull our abilities."
Rose gulped when she felt bouts of strong anger coming from Malohah. An angry Silurian was never a good thing. They all learned that the hard way when they visited a little Welsh village in the year 2020.
"Because my owners trusted me I took a chance and ran. A resistance group found me before the Slave Enforcers could and took me in," Malohah continued to explain. "We helped other slaves to escape the nightmare they were forced into…"
"See! I said he was important!" One of his rescuers uttered and Malohah looked back to find it had been the dark haired girl who'd spoken. He could sense she was extremely powerful. Same thing with the two yellow haired females. The twin males were telepathic and that orange haired female smelled unusual. The brown haired female was also telepathic but only mildly as she was just a human. She probably didn't know.
"Thanks for the compliment," he replied. "You clearly have some importance too. All of you." He turned his attention back to the open park entrance, not seeing their reactions. The sirens of the Enforcers were louder now. He was a little bit worried.
"We were caught out one night," Malohah returned to his story. "A group of us were on a raid to free some slaves. It was in the middle of the night, nobody else around to raise the alarm, quiet. But it was too quiet and that should have had my senses ringing, only there were Stealth Drones above us throwing out an inhibitor web-"
"Now ye tell us!" He heard the one with the Scots accent speak up, followed by something passing over him causing him to shiver.
What was that? An External Shield? Well it was handy but he didn't think it would last long against the Drone. "…Enforcers stormed the area and arrested us all. Within the hour we were in Court and enslaved. Because I was a runaway I got six months in the Comfort Station and once that sentence ended my fate will have been decided."
The Doctor raised his brows, unsure if he even wanted to know. Everything about this situation was piles of suitcases full of bad.
"What do you mean?" J.D asked instead.
Malohah looked back at the twins, unsure which one spoke. "I'm either returned to my owners intact, or if they don't want me back I'm further punished with being neutered and auctioned off to one of the Middle Eastern or Asian countries that use non native slaves for sex and labour." He said.
The Half-Time Lord grimaced at the answer.
"Blimey! Then it was a really good thing we came along just in time!" Rose uttered.
Malohah just grunted while he waited. They'd be here soon.
"Hey, how come you sound like you come from Wales?" The strange smelling Scottish orange haired female asked.
"I'm not," Malohah quickly replied. "I just kept the accent in the hope that I get back to my ancestral homeland in the near future. My grandparents came from there. They were taken by slavers on a hunt and smuggled out of the country with several others."
The Time Travellers were shocked and horrified, then it had The Doctor seething angry. The Silurians in Wales were meant to be a protected species and definitely had the same rights as humans. So how come slavers slipped into the country so easily and took off with a bunch of Silurians? Maybe when they're finished here they'd go to Pete and find out.
Having felt bouts of anger from The Doctor, Rose squeezed his hand to let him know she was listening.
Malohah's attention perked up when he saw a white van park up on the other side of the road. It beeped its horn four times. Two long beeps and two short beeps. That was their code and Malohah grinned. Now it was time to escape.
"That was morse code." One of the twins exclaimed.
"Yes it was." Malohah replied. "This way!"
With the Silurian leading the way the group hurried out of Lakeside Park, crossed the road and reached the van. Malohah rapped on the side of the van in another clear code. At first he thought they weren't going to open the door, then he remembered they were shielded. "Water flows fast but blood flows quicker." He called out. The door slid open and they all piled inside the van.
"Hey! What the-?" Someone else said, puzzled.
Malohah felt the external shield expand. "Just drive, get us out of here!" He ordered.
The side door slammed shut and the van drove off.
"Who's this lot then?" The same person asked. "And how'd you escape the rape stables?" Her accent had the strongest Southern twang yet, while her hair was short and styled to look wild, her skin was the lightest of browns. She looked as if she was going to war with all the camo she was wearing.
"Never mind all that. The area is crawling with Rozzers!" The driver spoke up. Despite the British term for 'police' being used, his accent was Canadian. "They're blocking off the exits."
"Jus' keep movin'," Jaime told the driver.
"Huh?!" He muttered.
"Jus' do it!" Jaime snapped at him and the driver did as he was told.
He even laughed in a triumphant way when the Stealth Drones came crashing to the ground. "Haha! Take that you morons!" He shouted.
Shaking her head, Jaime sat back down once they were out of danger.
"Who are they?" A third person in the van questioned while the 'Teen Rebel' used a small scanner on Malohah. This one was also a female and had white skin of a European, yet her accent was somewhat Middle-Eastern.
"They risked their lives to rescue me." Came the reply from Malohah. "Came in, knew exactly who to find and busted me out."
"And the others?" 'Teen Rebel' questioned.
The Silurian shook his head as sadness washed off him. "They were too far gone and we wouldn't have been able to get them out without this lot getting caught in the process."
'Teen Rebel' sighed sadly and put the scanner away. "Clean." She said.
"What about this lot?" The Middle -Eastern female spoke up again. "You said they specifically found you? What if they're spies?" She turned her attention to the Time Travellers. "What's your names?" She demanded. She held her gun, an AK, in a professional way.
The Doctor smiled grimly. It was time to introduce themselves. "Hello, I'm The Doctor," he said with a little wave.
"And I'm Bad Wolf." Rose introduced next and The Doctor frowned at her. Why had she done that? Even Rose looked surprised for a moment.
"I'm Doctor Smith." J.D introduced third.
"You can call me The Infinite." Jenny spoke up.
"The Defender." Alexia found herself saying.
"Centurion." Rory said before looking puzzled.
"Time Server" Amy said.
"And I'm The Omni," Jaime introduced last. "And we're not spies. We are, however, undercover, hence the names." She smiled sheepishly when her fellow Travellers looked at her once they'd realised they'd been manipulated. "We're workin' for the British Government. They've had their eyes on wha's goin' on in this country, so they sent us." Jaime explained. She could feel relief washing off the driver and the 'Teenage Rebel'.
But the Tank Girl was still suspicious. And even after they'd introduced themselves and explained why they were here, Tank Girl had 'Teenage Rebel' scan them all anyway.
Once they were deemed friendly, Tank Girl relaxed and relief also washed off her.
"Satisfied?" Malohah questioned Tank Girl as he put on some emergency clothing. He turned to the Time Travellers once he received a satisfied grunt. "You already know my name. This is Tiff," he nodded his head at the 'Teenage Rebel' now known as Tiff.
"Heya!" She uttered in greeting and the Time Travellers greeted her back.
"That one over there is one of our armed protectors. Her name is-"
"Alana." Tank Girl, now known as Alana introduced herself. "I'm not just a protector but I train others as well."
The Doctor raised surprised brows. "Are you from Israel?" He guessed. He only asked because her accent had a hint of Yiddish about it.
"Yes, I was born there," Alana replied. "I learned my craft in the IDF, but I'm not proud of my time in the Force."
Alexia rolled her eyes but made no comment.
"And finally we have Bobby., our driver. He tends to get a little over-excited at times."
Bobby snorted laughter when he heard this. "A little?" He spoke up. "The best fun I have is busting out slaves and sending them somewhere safe. I'm gonna be a hell of a lot more excited than 'a little'." He said as he continued to drive.
Malohah turned his attention back to the Time Travellers. He was extremely curious about them. "You knew what you were looking for when you came here," he spoke to them. "I can feel that some of you have powerful abilities, especially with you." He said, looking at The Omni. "It literally thrums off you dangerously."
The Silurian expected her to give a reaction but she just stared back silently. "Since when did the British Government align themselves with Superheroes?" Malohah questioned.
"British governments tend to know who I…we…are…as a Code 9 call out," The Doctor spoke up. "And yes, some of us do have abilities but not everyone knows that."
Bobby had been listening and now he had a burning question. "Hey? Is that why those Stealth Drones fell from the sky? Because that was ace!"
Jaime confirmed that she took them down with an EMP blast, meanwhile The Doctor had been thinking that Bobby's excited nature reminded him of a past companion. And when he uttered that word, Ace came to Mind. Bobby reminded him of Ace.
"EMP? Seriously?" Tiff spoke up. "That was handy. Those Stealth Drones ain't that easy to take down and you managed it with an EMP. Thanks for making our escape that little bit easier."
Jaime smirked at the cute little Texan. "No problem." She replied, still keeping everyone protected.
"So where exactly are we going?" The Doctor questioned the Resistance.
"We're going to our Safe Place," Malohah answered him. "There's quite a few of us there."
The answer was vague at best but The Doctor allowed it.
