She embraces a world without Benjamin (her and Dawson's son) and Nicolette (her high school best friend and former neighbor). Pacey makes a cameo in the story.

Joey (placing a teddy bear and flowers at the tombstone): Happy birthday, my friend

Nicolette (alive inside Joey's mind): Well thanks

Joey (choked up): You are welcome

Nicolette (hugging Joey): I love you

Joey (fighting back tears): I also love you like a sister.

Nicolette (touching Joey's cheek): Why are you heavyhearted?

Joey (crying): You left behind quite a mess. Dawson has claimed you tricked me into being your friend.

Nicolette: The cancer and our friendship were real

Joey: Whatever happened to your baby?

Nicolette: You shall know the truth within time
