Hello readers! How's life in the pandemic? Mine's going just swell (can you tell that I'm being sarcastic, like, VERY sarcastic?). What did you guys think of the summary? Was it captivating? I would hope so, it spent 10 minutes on that summary alone. Anyway, this story is an AU where Owen has a niece through the entirety of the first Jurassic World. I might do a Fallen Kingdom too, I haven't decided yet. Hope you guys like it!
Prologue:
January 24, 2005
It was a cold night in San Francisco, California. Everyone in the neighborhood was sound asleep, except for one little girl and her babysitter in the house on the end of the cul de sac. The little girl was cuddled in the pillow fort that she had made earlier that night, drawing on a piece of paper. The girl has wavy red hair and blue eyes that sparkle like little sapphires. She wears a purple nightgown and a small silver key around her neck. Her name was Rena Lillian Grady, and she is waiting for her long awaited parents to come home. But she is very patient and waits quietly on the floor.
Speaking of Rena's parents, everyone who met them agreed that they were good people. Her dad was Alexander Grady. He used to be in the navy with his younger brother. But, after a couple of years, he retired and became a college math teacher. Her mother, Elenora, was a beautiful, British, woman. She worked as a nurse at a children's hospital as was always very kind to her patients.
As Rena finished her drawing, her babysitter entered the room. "Rena," she said, "you're gonna have to go to bed honey, it's already past your bedtime."
Rena gave her a pouty face, "But, Ally, can't I wait for a little bit longer? I bet they'll be here soon."
Ally could never resist her pouty face, "Okay, but only for 10 more minutes."
Rena smiled, "Thanks Ally!" Then she let out a big yawn. Ally smiled too, knowing that Rena would be asleep before the ten minutes were up.
She was right, Rena was asleep in the next five minutes. Ally carefully scooped her up and carried her up the stairs. She tucks her into bed in the midst of all her stuffed animals. Ally went down stairs and looked at the clock, the time made her very worried. Alexander and Elenora were always home by 9:30, but tonight was not the case. She took out her a phone and texted Mr. Grady.
'Mr. Grady, I was wondering when you'll be home with your wife. Just let me know if you have an extra shift, and I'll watch Rena until tomorrow.
-Ally'
Ally soon fell asleep on the couch, waiting for a message from Alex. But it never came.
The next morning, Ally woke up bright and early and made pancakes for breakfast, making sure to keep her phone next to her at all times. She was getting really worried about Rena's parents. Soon, she heard a pair of feet descending down the stairs, "Good morning!" Rena said. Ally ruffled her hair when she was close enough, "And a good morning to you too!"
Ally was about to start on the dirty dishes, but her cell phone rang. Not bothering to look at the number, she walked into the living room and answered the call. "This is Abigail Straut… yes I'm associated with Mr. and Mrs. Grady, I babysit their daughter… uh-huh… yes… what?!" Rena looked up at Ally's distressed voice. She carefully got off the chair and pecked into the living room.
"I see… thank you for informing me… I'll tell her… thank you." Ally said, and turned off her phone. She turned to the kitchen and froze when she saw Rena, "Rena, um, how long have you been standing there?"
"Not long." Rena answered softly as she made her way to her babysitter. "Ally, who was that? Does he know where mommy and daddy are?" She asked innocently.
Ally bite her lips worriedly. Rena can't know about this, it's too painful, but she has the right to know. Ally took a deep breath and sighs. She bends down and gives Rena a hug. The little girl was confused by this embrace, as Ally lets go, she holds Rena's shoulders.
"Rena, something happened to your parents." Ally said hesitantly.
"What happened?" Rena asked worriedly.
Ally took a deep breath and sighs, she felt a heavy weight on her chest, feeling that Rena is too young to know this, but Ally has to tell her. Otherwise, it will be too late.
"Sugar cake...your parents, they...they've been in an accident." Ally started, feeling tears coming from her eyes.
Rena gasped in worry. "Are they okay?" She asked.
Ally shook her head. Rena felt Ally's hands tighten a bit. "No, Sugar cake, they're not."
"W-What's wrong?" Rena asked worriedly, still in baby talk. Ally didn't answer as she hugs the little girl. Rena clutches Ally tightly as her eyes start to water.
"Ally, where's mommy and daddy?" Rena sounded like she was about to cry.
Ally was crying as she hugged Rena tightly. "Sugar cake, your mom and dad...they aren't coming home…anymore. I'm sorry." She answered softly with a sadness in her voice.
Rena's eyes widened when she felt Ally's words in her mind. Her mommy and daddy...they're gone? No, her parents promised to come home! They promised! They promised...
AN:
The drama! Yeah, so, I'm mean, and killed Rena's parents when she was five. And just to be clear, her parent's died in a car crash. They got hit by a drunk driver. This prologue doesn't have much on information on the last sentence in the summary but I promise that we'll get to it in Chapter 1! Hope you guys enjoyed! See you next time!
