The vial of blood sat on top of the table in front of her, the liquid dark and thick within. The top of the vial had already been taken off and she could smell the metallic scent already.

Seated in a chair, her palms flat on the tabletop with the vial standing between her hands, Cami took a deep breath. She didn't want to be a vampire again. She wasn't one of those people that took to vampirism well, mostly because she had no desire to feed from innocent people. If she had a choice, she would never be a vampire again. She'd rather live out her days as a human and, as nature intended, die at the end of the life. Immortality seemed like nothing but a burden.

Then again, she wasn't really human now. She didn't know what she was anymore. She didn't think she could be truly human again, with her body being held in the weird state it had been in since Inadu had brought her back to life. It was either become a vampire or stay as what she was now and she supposed in this case, she'd prefer the experience she already knew.

"We don't have to do this right now if you're not ready," Klaus said, standing beside her chair. "We can wait a little longer."

She tilted her head up to look at him. "What would be the point? I have to transition. It might be better to get it over with now."

Klaus nodded, but didn't reply. He looked between her and the vial, waiting.

Despite her words, she didn't feel ready for what was about to happen. What if she couldn't handle it? What if she turned her humanity off? What if she became a monster like so many other vampires had? A hundred possibilities ran through her mind on what could happen to her once she became a vampire again.

Nevertheless, she'd made her bargain with Death. She had to do this. Death had upheld their end of their arrangement; now it was her turn.

With shaky hands, Cami lifted the vial to her lips and drank. The blood slowly made its way down her throat. The thick liquid clung to her tongue, so that she had to swallow a few times to get it all down, barely able to restrain herself from shivering with revulsion at the taste and texture.

Klaus was quick to take the empty vial from her hand and tuck it away in his pocket. "Are you alright?"

She felt like gagging. "Yeah. That's the first step done." She shook off the taste of the blood and met his stare. "Now onto the death part of things."

They hadn't spoken about it, but she had assumed that since it was only the two of them in the room, he would be the one to end her life and begin her transition. Looking at him now though, she wasn't so sure that her assumption had been correct.

He was quick to turn on his heel and start walking to the door. "I'll go get someone. Perhaps Hayley or Elijah? Or whoever you'd prefer. They'll end things quickly for you."

She jumped up out of her seat and grabbed onto his arm to stop him from leaving. "I don't want Hayley or Elijah to do this," she said. "I want you to be the one."

"Camille," he began. She could already see the refusal on his lips.

"No, Klaus," she stopped him. "I feel safe with you. I trust you to do this for me. I don't want anyone else here; just you and me."

He was still hesitant. She couldn't blame him. She knew she was asking a lot of him. If the roles were reversed, she didn't know how she'd handle it. Perhaps it was selfish of her to ask this of him, but she wanted him there with her. Not like it was before.

Cami waited for him to reply, her breath held. If he said no, she wouldn't force the issue of course, but she would be disappointed. She was nervous and she was scared. She needed him to be there then.

His hand went to her cheek and she leaned her face into his palm. His eyes roamed over her face, still reluctant, but resigned to what he had to do. "I'll be there when you wake up."

"I know you will." She'd never doubted that.

Upon hearing the surety in her voice, he smiled sadly. "I love you, Camille."

"I love you too."

As soon as the words left her lips, Klaus tightened his grip on her head and twisted, snapping her neck and sending her world into darkness.

And then, a new life began.
