Chapter 2: The Wall Walk Talk

Silverstripe soon returned to his clan's camp. He looked around and shifted his gaze to the entrance of his den. There he saw Nightmist sleeping peacefully. Her chest rose up

and shortly after, back down. He stared as if he was in a trance. His exhaustion clouded his mind with thoughts of going to his den and cuddling with Nightmist. He sighed and

turned to the clear night sky. He saw the moon at its peak in the sky. His gaze returned to his den. He knew that Froststar would want to meet with him in the morning for the

results of his mission. Silverstripe decided that he would go to the stream just north of the camp to clean himself and get a drink of cool water. Silverstripe hated being dirty.

Everyone had teased him about how he is a fish-cat and lives in the water because of how often he went to the stream. He never listened and always ignored them. Once he

reached the stream, he noticed that it was more shallow than normal. It was just enough to cover his paws. He gave a small grin and started to roll in the water while

chuckling softly. After he was done having fun, he shook off the excess water and finally took a drink. He adored how cool and refreshing the water was every time he

swallowed. He smacked his lips as he rose from the stream and headed south back to camp. He soon arrived and made his way to the warrior's dens and found his one easily.

He ducked slightly to not hit his head as the den was in the ground a bit. He curled up to Nightmist who resented the fact that a wet furrball was rubbing against her but

allowed it nevertheless. Silverstripe rested his head between his front paw and dove right into a deep sleep that he thought was well deserved.

The sun shined bright the next morning with no clouds in sight. Silverpaw was eating breakfast with Nightmist when Froststar approached them. Silverpaw looked at

Nightmist and walked forward to Froststar. Froststar led Silverstripe to her den and started to talk.

"So, how was the assignment?" She asked casually. Silverstripe looked at her, trying not to show his fear.

"Um, not the best" Started Silverstripe. "When I got there it was already pretty dark and I had to leave early because the midnight patrol came earlier than normal. I'm sorry

I couldn't get closer to the camp." Froststar stared at him with a blank expression. He was expecting a bit of frustration from her but nothing came of it.

"I see." She meowed. Silverstripe could tell she was thinking critically. "Either our information about an attack from ShadowClan is wrong, or you missed something

important." Froststar started to pace in small circles. She stopped and looked at him for a few seconds, then went back to pacing. This continued for a few minutes until she

finally said something.

"I have thought this out and I think that an attack from ShadowClan isn't going to happen yet, though I'm sure it will come. The war has taken a toll on all of us, and even

more so on ShadowClan with the amount of cats they lost in the battles. We and all Clans gained nothing from this war after it finished except loss and grief. With this in mind

I think it will take time for ShadowClan to regain its strength again to fight. I know they hate us with every bone in their bodies for not helping in the war. That is why I think

they will attack eventually." She meowed with confidence. She looked at him again and meowed, "You are excused."

Silverstripe walked out of the den to see that Nightmist was waiting for him. She looked concerned and started to meow quickly.

"How did it go? Will you be okay? Am I going to be okay?" She paused for a moment. "Are we going to be okay?" She said trembling. He looked at her with confusion and

sympathy.

"Yes, everything went well and we will be fine." Silverstripe said plainly. Nightmist looked as if a boldar had been lifted off of her.

"Oh thank goodness!" She meowed. Silverstripe had noticed that Nightmist had been concerned with everything lately. A few days ago she was afraid that the wall repair

wasn't going to work and kept insisting that the cats were doing it wrong. Silverstripe felt something was off. Nightmist walked ahead of him as they made their way through

the camp to the entrance of the Clan.

They had planned to take a walk around the walk to see if the cats had patched everything. They soon were out of the camp and walked

around the walk looking for any light shining through. Silverstripe looked at Nightmist as she concentrated on the task before them. He smiled gently.

"Have you been feeling okay?" He asked. Nightmist stopped and turned around. She looked at him and tilted her head slightly.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She meowed softly. She turned back around, quickening her pace, and continued to search the wall. Silverstripe kept up.

"I've noticed that you haven't been acting the same lately. I was wondering if something was bothering you." Silverstripe was now next to Nightmist. She sighed and sat

down. Silverstripe sat with her.

"I will be honest, I have noticed it too. I don't know what has been happening lately and I am scared and afraid of everything that doesn't seem right." She looked as if she

was about to tear up. "I just want everyone to be safe and I'm not helping by criticizing everything!" She meowed louder than normal. Sadness filled her sentence which hurt

Silverstripe to see her this way.

"It is okay that you are like this. Though the cats don't show it, you are the reason that our walls are strong. They did listen to you and made it better because of it! You are

keeping everyone safe this way." Nightmist looked up from the ground and looked him in the eyes. Silverstripe saw hope in the colorful oceans that of those of her eyes. They

continued their walk around the wall, making a big circle around the camp. When they walked into the camp, they went straight to the cats who built the green wall and told

them of their findings of places they missed. The cats thanked them and headed off. The walk around the wall had taken a lot longer than expected and it was almost

sundown at the time. The two cats grabbed food off the pile and headed close to their den. They ate in silence until it was time to sleep when Silverstipe said goodnight.

Nightmist replied with goodnight too and gave Silverstripe a lick between the ears. They wrapped themselves around each other to stay warm on the unexpectedly cold night

and purred until they fell into a calm slumber.
