They were coming back from the mall when it happened. The most traumatic event to ever occur to him. It changed everything as he knew it. His faith in heroes, confidence in the justice system, and the trust in himself. He was now undeserving, unqualified, and nothing anybody said seem to change his new view on the world. Sinking into a deep depression. Spiraling in a deep dark hole, clawing at the walls that crumbled around him. The light has long since gone out. There was no guiding hand only darkness and fear that consumed him.

The day was nice, it was Saturday and sunny. 21 degrees Celsius (70 Fahrenheit), perfect for a day at the beach or amusement park. After a day out with the strongest, most inspiring women he has ever known. This was the happiest he's been in a very long time. Having not seen his mother in weeks, missing her infinity. He took his free Saturday and spent it with Inko. Picking her up from the apartment at 9, they spent the day chatting, eating, shopping, and looking around the mall. It was 5 when they were ready to call it a day. Getting ready to drop her back off at her apartment, then make great speed back to the dorms that the school built a little over 2 months ago. They began to pack their things.

He would have done this a month ago but being so busy the opportunity was null. The beginning of the month he and kacchan were grounded by Aizawa sensei for that weekend and the next after. Izuku and Bakugo got along much better after their fight. They could hold a conversation without Bakugo blowing a fuse. Talking about training, what games they were into, and what Izuku was studying as of late. Competing in competitions with video games, test scores, and even who could finish a book first was a fun thing to do. Not only for them but their classmates too. Closer as friends even their groups were together more, coupling tables at lunch and hanging out.

So, with being so busy he took the first chance to be with his mother. As they were coming out of the cafe dinner was chosen for. A commotion could be seen across the way in a nearby ally. A younger man was hurt bleeding badly holding his arm. His face was bruised, bloody, and broken. Izuku was busy dialing the police not seeing Inko a fully certified nurse running over to the man. The police and heroes are on their way. Hanging up the phone and finally turns around not finding his mother there.

"Mom! Mom! Mom, where are you?" He looks around to then run to the ally.

A man towering at least a foot over his mother a knife held to her throat. His clothes torn and in shreds. Would be blond hair is stained, filthy, and in disarray. Shoes with holes. He must have been on the streets for some time.

Straining to hear what's being said yet still not making out. The only reason he didn't charge in was the terrified look on her face. The man she had come here to help laid helpless on the ground blood spilling out of him. Bleeding out from what seemed to be a stab wound to the side of his abdomen. He wasn't going to live long enough for the ambulance to show. You could see it in his eyes as the light began to fade from them. The hope he had given up, his breaths shallow giving out in a blaze of pain. He didn't want to see this. He looks back to his mother. Moving closer the man as if he was a lion prepared to attack.

"Sir? What is it you need? Maybe I can help. Please just put the knife down, we can talk about this." He slowly reaches into his pockets. An All Might wallet comes into view. "Look man 300 in cash" Taking out the money to show it in full view. Inserting the cash back in the wallet to drop and kick to the hobo seeming man. It knocked into his shoes. "Take it. We don't want a problem man just let her go." He pleas. Sirens sound in the distance. That's the police and heroes I must stall long enough for them to save the day. "Please listen you don't need to hurt her, take the money and go."

The man shakes his head frantically. "No! No! It's not the money. He killed her! He needs to pay! He needs to pay!" He's wildly waving the knife around. Izuku flinches at every movement close to his mother's neck. The police and heroes arrive standing behind him, they're talking among themselves. He figured they were trying to assess the situation. They need to hurry up and beat this guy.

"Hey man what's your name? Mine's Izuku. How needs to pay? maybe we can look for him together?" Taking a small step closer.

"It's Harigae Shingen." He answers but pays no mind to Izuku he's too focused on Inko.

Harigae was talking again but it wasn't to Izuku it was to his mother. Izuku couldn't make it out. He isn't loud enough what was he saying? His mother desperately shaking her head saying something back, but the man was past discussion. The hushed talk now shouts that seem to make no sense. It's all random gibberish.

Izuku had to do something. He had to try to talk this man down. He couldn't use the powers bestowed him or he would be going to jail with this guy. Why weren't the heroes doing anything? He wasn't paying attention to what the heroes and police force were saying before, but he was now. There wasn't a point in not doing so he couldn't understand what the man was going on about.

"We can't do anything. We don't have quirks made for hostage situations. We were called to heal." He couldn't take it anymore.

"What do you mean you don't have the right quirk? Your heroes, aren't you? Do something! Save my mother!" He yelled not paying attention to the man and his mother. For as he yelled, he grabbed Harigae focus once more. He turned back to them just as the ragged man quieted. He looked at Harigae for what he knew was less than a second and he saw it.

Without a thought for the future he leaped towards them, but it was too late. As slow motion seemed to take over the heroes yelling at him to stop, to wait for the right heroes. He leaped only to make it barely a step when it felt as if the gravitational force of the world fell on his back. Dropping so hard he left a dent in the cement.

There it was. Looking into the man's eyes and knew he would forever remember that look. It was the of ~I'm going to take everything you love from you~. It was the eyes of his mother's killer. She was dead. Her warm blood splatting on his face as it sprays from her slit neck. The world seems to mute as she speaks but he can't hear it. Her finale words and he would never know them. Hear them. She could be telling him he's a disgrace and he would never know it. He didn't hear the man as he ran past the so-called heroes and police officers. As Harigae got away and got lost in the distance.

All he could see was her lifeless body and dull eyes. She was gone. He would never hear her laugh, never eat her katsudon, never smell her lavender and vanilla perfume, never feel the warm comforting hugs as he greeted, never see her smile. The smile that could outshine the sun. He lost her forever.

He crawled to her on weak arms and legs. Brushing the hair from her face that was still warm. A face lost the youthful glow she was so filled with. Limp body heavy as he dragged it into his lap. The once emotionless face he held scrunched up as he realized in the moments it tokes for him to get to her, he could have saved her. He wasn't fast enough. Wasn't strong enough. Good enough. She's gone and it's his fault.

He could do nothing but scream all his pain. The loss of his only family and he did nothing but watch. Air didn't fill his burning lungs.

How long have I sat here? How long have I screamed? Have I stopped yet?

Just sobbed over her corps. Clenching her cold pale hands praying that she was just joking. That she would come back and light his world again.

I didn't know.

When he finally came to, he was in his dorm room. The room was dark void of any light much like himself. He was numb.

Am I sad, happy, mad? I can't feel anything.

As much as it should have scared him it didn't. His world was gone. He didn't know what to do anymore. He couldn't be a hero anymore. He didn't have what it takes. He wasn't capable enough. He couldn't save his own mother how was he supposed to save anyone else.

There was a knock on the door, but he didn't answer. He had nothing to say to the world. A man black messy hair that past his shoulders to his shoulder blades, dressed in all black with a white scarf came in. "Hey kid I know you probably don't want to talk but I have to tell you this. With your mother um, gone you don't have a guardian here. After the funeral you'll have to move to America with your father. I know it won't do anything to help you but for what it's worth I'm sorry and I'll miss you." The room was silent. Izuku didn't give any indication of moving anytime soon. With a few more moments of silence he got up moved to the door. His back turned to give one last look when he heard Izuku's small voice, it was house and raspy. "Did you catch him?" Aizawa couldn't hear him he was too quiet. "What?" "The man that killed my mother, did you catch him?" His voice still low just barely above a wispier. "No, he got away. We're still looking for him." he didn't get a reply, so he just closed the door.

A single tear fell. The last one for a very long time.

Hey so this is the first official story I am writing that I don't plan on taking down somewhere soon. I don't have a bata so if you see any mistakes fill free to point them out. I don't know how often I will write... well post. I almost always have ideas to write, I guess it's how well this does. If it does well then, I'll try to make it regular but other than that... We'll see how it goes. Happy Holidays everyone!
