Thanks again for all the reviews I've been getting on this story, I love reading them to see what people think :) The next lot of chapters will have the number of days that have passed between each chapter just so it doesn't get too confusing

Northern Districts Hospital - Day 1

"Nate, what's going on? No one's telling me anything." Brax says after finally managing to find him. "And don't tell me to wait any longer or I'll go looking for him myself."

"Brax, I need you to calm down." Nate says. "Kyle's just got out of recovery and has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit. I'll take you to him." He says, leading him down the corridor.

"Does that mean he's okay?" Brax asks. "No one would tell me what was going on."

"I've just been up speaking to the surgeon and I'm going to tell you about Kyle's condition, but I need you to not freak out because he's made it through surgery."

"You're not filling me with great hope saying stuff like that." Brax mutters.

"When Kyle was run over, it was done at speed. Kyle was brought in with some severe injuries and needed surgery for a brain bleed and some internal bleeding, he also had a broken leg that was put into a cast. The surgeon was happy with the brain surgery and said it was textbook, meaning it went well. We can't be sure of any brain damage right now as we need Kyle to be awake. Unfortunately, the internal bleeding was quite severe and he had to have his spleen removed as it had ruptured." Nate explains, stopping Brax short of Kyle's room.

"He'll wake up?" Brax asks, taken aback by the injuries his brother had sustained.

"Kyle's condition is still in a very critical stage but we'll be monitoring him very carefully. We'll review everything again in a few days and hopefully have a clearer picture of Kyle's prognosis." Nate says. "Now Kyle is going to be surrounded by a lot of wires and machines, but they're just there to help him." He says, Brax nodding as they walk in.

"Why wasn't I called sooner?" Brax asks as he walks to Kyle's bedside, trying to stay strong.

"He was taken straight into surgery upon arrival, so there would have been no way for us to know he was here until he had been officially put onto the system." Nate explains. "I would've called sooner if I knew but I haven't long started my shift, so I wasn't aware he was here until changeover."

"Right." Brax faintly nods, not knowing what to do now.

"Does your family know Kyle is here?" Nate asks.

"Uh, yeah. I called Heath, he was driving the boys here." Brax replies.

"Okay. Normally we would only allow two people in the room at a time, but I'll make it known to the nurses that you'll be in here with your brothers. I know you'll all want to be with him right now." Nate says, about to leave Brax alone with Kyle to inform the nurses of the decision.

"Thanks." Brax sighs as he takes a seat, unable to think straight. "Wait, Nate."

"Yes?" Nate asks, turning to face him.

"Kyle was meant to have been with Blake when this happened, where is he?" Brax asks.

"I wasn't aware of Kyle coming in with anyone. I can find out for you if you want?" Nate says.

"Yeah, that would be great." Brax nods as Nate leaves to go and find out for him.

Brax couldn't understand why this was happening. Was it a freak accident, or was it done on purpose? He had so many questions that he needed answers for, the biggest one being Blake's whereabouts. Kyle was meant to have been with him, so he could have some of the answers he needs from him. He also knew how close his younger brothers were to Blake, so they would be devastated if both of them had been hurt in the accident.

"Brax." He hears from the side of him, seeing his brothers standing there staring at him.

"Yeah?" Brax asks.

"We asked if you knew anymore about Kyle." Heath says, knowing he needed to stay strong for his brothers, especially Lucas who looked like he was about to break down in tears.

"Uh, yeah Nate told me more earlier." Brax says.

"So?" Tyler asks, waiting for a reply that never came. "Brax, is Kyle going to be okay?" He frowns, Brax merely looking at Lucas as he tried to think of the best way to tell them.

"Nate said the next few days are going to be critical and right now, they're not sure if he'll wake up." Brax says as Nate walks through the door.

"He has to!" Lucas croaks.

"Anything?" Brax asks Nate, who shakes his head.

"There's nothing on the system and the nurse who was on duty when Kyle came in said there was only one person involved." Nate says.

"What's this?" Heath frowns.

"Kyle was hanging out with Blake before this happened." Brax says.

"Blake?" Lucas mutters. "Where is he?"

"I don't know."

"I'll go and call him, see if I can find out." Casey says, rushing out to call his closest friend.

"Nate, tell Brax he's wrong about Kyle waking up." Lucas says, staring at the doctor. "Tell him!" He shouts.

"Lucas, it's okay." Heath says, turning to Nate. "How serious is it?"

"Right now, I'm more concerned about a secondary bleed on Kyle's brain but so far his vital signs-"

"What brain bleed?" Lucas frowns.

"They've only just got here, I haven't had a chance to tell them everything." Brax says to a confused looking Nate.

"Right. Well Kyle was taken straight into surgery when he was brought in by paramedics and was operated on for a bleed on his brain, and internal bleeding, and both surgeries went well. Kyle's spleen was removed during surgery due to it being ruptured, but there's no reason as to why he can't live a long and healthy life without it. He also has a broken leg which will need to be in a cast for several weeks." Nate explains.

"So he'll wake up then, that's what you're saying." Lucas says.

"Despite the surgery going well, Kyle's injuries were still severe. We're monitoring him closely, and as soon as we know more, you'll all be the first to know." Nate says. "Does anyone have any more questions?"

"How bad was the brain bleed? Will it impact him mentally?" Tyler asks, not really wanting to word it bad and upset Lucas more.

"We won't be able to tell until Kyle has woken. I suspect, due to the brain bleed there could be some brain damage, but let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. First, we need to focus on Kyle's condition not deteriorating." Nate says as his pager goes off. "I'm sorry, I need to go but I'll be around today if you have any more questions." He says before quickly leaving just as Casey comes back in.

"Blake's okay. He was called into work and Kyle was fine when he left. Apparently there was a woman watching them and started confronting them but Blake didn't know who she was and never had time to find out either." Casey explains. "He's on his way in and is going to give a statement to the police about this woman in case she's the one that ran Kyle over."

"Shit!" Tyler mutters.

"What?" Lucas asks.

"I can't say mum was best pleased about us wanting her to leave without us, what if it's her?" Tyler sighs.

"She was glaring at Kyle before I went to talk to her." Brax says, thinking back to earlier that day. "Does Emily know? She was looking for Kyle earlier."

"Yeah, Bianca and Ricky went to get her." Heath says. "I'm going to go and wait for them, I think it's best that they're told about Kyle's condition before seeing it." He mutters before walking out to get some air himself.

"Mum wouldn't do something like this, she's never been evil enough to hurt someone." Lucas mutters.

"But it would make sense." Tyler sighs. "I don't want to believe it either, but if the police want to know if we suspect anyone, I won't be lying for her." He says, Brax shooting his gaze to him.

"You'd shop your own mum to the cops?" Brax asks.

"Normally I wouldn't shop anyone to the police, but this is different. My youngest triplet, our younger brother, is lying in a coma after someone ran him over. Whoever did this won't be getting away with it and I don't care what you think of me for doing it, it's going to happen." Tyler firmly says.

"Normally I'd be against snitching on family, but your mum deserves to rot in jail if this was her." Brax says, the door bursting open.

"Kyle!" Emily sobs as she runs to his side. "Who the hell did this to him?" She asks as Bianca, Ricky and Heath walk in behind her.

"We don't know." Brax says, slightly shaking his head at his brothers to not say anything about their suspicion yet.

"How long until Nate knows more about when Kyle will wake up?" Bianca asks.

"Don't know that either. We've just got to wait." Brax replies, and that's what they did, each in silence as they tried to take in the reality of what happened.
