Braxton House - Day 15

"Morning." Brax mutters as he walks into the house, surprised to see Blake in the kitchen pouring two drinks out.

"Morning." Blake lightly smiles before walking back out into the hallway.

"What's Blake doing here?" Brax asks as he sits down at the table with Heath and Tyler.

"Lucas was a mess the other night, so Blake's been staying with him to make sure he was going to be okay. It's just Lucas has taken it really badly and is refusing to agree to Kyle's life support being turned off when we next have a family meeting about it." Tyler says.

"I don't blame him, I'm not agreeing to it either." Heath says. "Blake has been great to Lucas, and he's Kyle's best mate, if anyone can get through to him, I think he has more chance."

"Yeah, he won't even listen to anything I've had to say." Tyler says.

"And what have you been saying?" Brax asks, wanting to know where they all stood on the decision, and Heath was making it clear he wasn't agreeing to Kyle's life support being turned off.

"I don't want Kyle's life support being turned off, we turn 21 next week and I want him to be there considering we've never celebrated a birthday together." Tyler says, having been looking forward to it as much as his triplets. "But on the other hand, Nate said a lot of strain is being put on Kyle's organs. What if it's causing him pain that the doctors can't pick up on when they run tests? I know they don't think Kyle will survive, but he's alive as long as the machine is turned on. We don't know what he hears, or what he feels. He could be in a lot of pain for all we know." He explains.

"I hadn't thought about that." Brax mutters, not wanting Kyle to be in pain when he wouldn't be able to voice it to them.

"Sorry, I don't want you to be stressed about anything else." Tyler sighs. "We just don't know what he's feeling, whether it's pain from his surgery, from the stress his organs are under, or anything else."

"No, I get where you're coming from." Brax says as Casey walks out of the hallway with Denny.

"Morning." Casey mutters. "Denny stayed last night, I was going to ask but you weren't home by then." He says.

"Don't worry about it, you don't have to be alone right now." Brax says, seeing how much stronger Casey was with Denny around.

"Anyway, I better go. I said I'd pick Emily up from her place on my way to the hospital." Tyler says as he stands up.

"I'll be there later." Brax and Heath say in unison, glancing at each other.

"Could I have a bit of time alone later? Maybe like five, ten minutes." Heath says.

"Sure." Brax nods as Tyler leaves. "I think at some point, it would be good for all of us to have some time with Kyle. You know, before the final decision is made."

"Yeah, we need to." Casey nods. "Anyway, we were heading down to the beach for a bit of time out. Do you want to come for a surf?" He asks his brothers.

"No, I'm waiting on Bianca as she's going to meet Irene." Heath says.

"Yeah, I'll come." Brax says, hoping it would help him think clearer. "I'll go and let Ricky know." He says, walking to the flat to see if she wanted to join them.

Northern Districts Hospital

"Do you think I should go and see Lucas?" Emily asks. "I don't know what help I could be, I just hate knowing he's feeling like this. Kyle wouldn't want any of you feeling like that."

"It might help, I'm not sure. Blake has been trying hard convincing him the doctors aren't turning against us over this." Tyler says. "He always has to find negatives in everything, I just want him to see that the doctors know best and wouldn't be telling us to think about turning Kyle's life support off unless they thought there was nothing else."

"I do understand where he's coming from though. The connection he had with Kyle was so strong considering they hadn't known each other long, and now he could lose that." Emily says. "I think it would really help him if you went to be with him and see where he's coming from. Maybe let Blake have a night off and be there for Lucas. You have that connection as well and you would actually know him better than any of us."

"Yeah, you're right. It would beat a night alone at the caravan park." Tyler says. "It's just, I've never seen Lucas like this. He's never hidden things from me, not that I know of anyway, but this is different. I've always been able to work him out, but I can't even figure anything out at the moment."

"Have you heard anything more from the police, about your mum?" Emily asks.

"We're just waiting for her court date to be set. She's already pleaded guilty to it, so it's a guaranteed prison sentence. The police have been in contact with the doctors about Kyle's condition. They're waiting to see if he dies in case the charge needs to be upgraded to murder." Tyler says, having been keeping updated with what was happening with her.

"Could that be making things worse for Lucas, knowing no one has a lot of hope?" Emily asks as Brax walks in with Casey and Denny.

"Maybe. I wanted to stay hopeful, but with what the doctors are saying… I don't want Kyle to be suffering and we have no idea what's going on inside that head of his." Tyler mutters, turning round to see his brothers and Denny stood there.

"We've just been down to see Nate about that. He doesn't think Kyle can feel any pain, which is something." Brax says.

"What if he's lying?" Tyler asks.

"Nate wouldn't do that, I trust him." Brax says.

"But not enough that you got a second opinion on Kyle's case."

"That has nothing to do with my trust for Nate, it was to get another doctor's opinion on whether there was anything else we could do."

"Can we please not argue right now." Casey huffs. "If Kyle can feel and hear things while in the coma, I don't think he'd want to hear you two at each other again."

"I'd hardly say again." Tyler mutters.

"Tyler mentioned Heath wanted some time alone with Kyle when he came in. What time is he coming?" Emily asks to change the conversation away from an argument.

"I'm not sure." Brax shrugs. "He started acting pretty weird when I asked him before we left for a surf. He's made it very clear he won't be agreeing to the life support being turned off and he avoids the conversation when we've spoken about it."

"It's not something any of us want to talk about but we need to soon. I don't want Kyle's life support being turned off unless everyone is in agreement that it's the best thing to do, that means Heath has to as well. I don't want him being harsh towards us afterwards if we all agree and he doesn't." Emily says.

"I don't think he would use it against us. I can understand where he's coming from and I don't want to agree to it either, but we have to. I won't be the one forcing him into making a decision." Brax says. "We will just have to make sure it's clear that no one will use it against anyone once the final decision has been made."

"I can make sure Lucas knows that, not that he would use it against anyone anyway. I think deep down they know it's the right thing to do, it's just the agreeing out loud bit that they probably think will make people hate them, or something." Tyler says.

"How'd you mean?"

"If they think people will hate them, or Kyle will hate them, for agreeing to turn his life support off, they won't want to agree to it out loud. They don't want to be a reason Kyle dies, even though it's probably the best thing to do in Kyle's condition due to his injuries." Tyler says. "I know you trust Nate when he says Kyle isn't in pain, but I don't trust it and I don't want him hurting any longer. If he can go and be at peace, I want that to happen. I know I don't have a huge say in this compared to you guys, I just hate knowing that we don't know what he feels."

"I know, I feel the same." Brax says, sighing to himself as he knew Kyle should be at peace. "I think we all need to think about saying our goodbyes sooner rather than later…"

"Yeah." Casey faintly nods, knowing there was no point delaying it anymore and they all knew it was the right thing to do now.
