Northern Districts Hospital - Day 17 Continued

"It's been ages, why is no one telling us anything?" Heath moans as he paces backwards and forwards in front of the chairs.

"Heath, just come and sit down." Bianca says, gesturing to the spare chair next to her.

"I can't sit down." He shakes his head, glancing at his watch. "It's been nearly an hour, I don't get what's going on!"

"What if it's something I did?" Lucas mutters from where he was sitting in Blake's embrace.

"You didn't even go near the machines, we didn't touch them." Heath mutters.

"What did happen?" Emily asks, Heath merely staring at her as he stops pacing. "Don't tell me nothing happened because you were both in there for a long time ignoring us and now my boyfriend's machines went crazy from something."

"Are you saying it's our fault?" Heath glares.

"No one is blaming anyone." Brax says. "But this hasn't happened in the two and a half weeks Kyle has been here, but when you two shut yourself in there-"

"We didn't want Kyle's machines to be turned off so what makes you think this was us?" Heath shouts.

"Okay, fighting isn't going to help anyone." Ricky firmly says. "This is when family should be sticking together, not falling apart. What would Kyle think if he knew this was happening to you guys?"

"He'd be ashamed." Emily says. "All he ever wanted was for your family to get on but this has just divided you. None of us want Kyle's life support to be turned off, but we needed to make a decision as a family, and that was doing the right thing for him. If the doctor comes back and tells us something went wrong and Kyle died in there without us around him, I will never forgive you." She glares, walking out of the relatives room to get some space.

"Neither will I." Brax says as he stands up. "Family should be around Kyle in his final moments, now you could have ruined that. I hope you're happy with yourselves." He says before walking out to check on Emily.

"I never wanted something like this to happen, I just wanted some more time to get my head around what we had to do." Lucas mutters. "I'm sorry."

"Why don't we just wait to see what the doctors say before jumping to conclusions." Ricky says.

"They hate me."

"They're scared, we all are. Things were said in the heat of the moment but it doesn't mean they hate you." Ricky says.

"Don't beat yourself up over this, Luc. You weren't to know this was going to happen." Tyler says.

"That doesn't make me feel any better." Lucas sighs. "I wasn't thinking straight and did something stupid, I didn't mean to take the chance of being with Kyle when he died away from any of you. I'm so sorry."

"Lucas, you made a mistake but none of us are going to blame you." Bianca says.

"And if they do, then they can blame me as well. I was in the room with you, and we didn't do anything. Yes, something has happened but you're not to blame for it." Heath says to him.

"What do you think was happening?" Lucas asks, none of them able to give an answer. "If it was something simple, surely it wouldn't have taken this long?"

"It could just be his blood pressure again." Tyler says.

"But it didn't take this long to tell us last time, and the machines didn't go crazy like that." Lucas says.

"Let's just wait for the doctor who can tell us what's going on." Ricky says as the door opens, Brax and Emily walking back in, taking their seats again.

"I've just seen Nate, he's coming in a second, he just wanted to talk to Sid about something." Brax says.

"But Kyle's alive, he at least said that?" Heath asks.

"He didn't say, just that he wouldn't be long." Brax replies, wishing he'd asked before coming back in, needing to know soon.

"Did he look happy, sad?" Lucas asks, Brax glancing up over to him.

"Neither." Brax replies, just as the door opened, them all rising as Nate walked in with Sid behind him.

"Nate, is Kyle okay?" Casey asks as soon as he walks in.

"He's alive." Nate says, relieving them all that they didn't miss being there, for Kyle to be alone without them.

"So what happened?" Heath asks.

"What caused the machines to start going off like that was Kyle's blood pressure dropped, and his heart rate increased significantly in a small amount of time. We weren't sure what caused this to happen, so ran some tests and took Kyle for some scans, which took us longer to come here." Nate explains, briefly glancing at Sid before turning back to the Braxton's.

"So what caused it?" Brax asks.

"We're not exactly sure, which is why we went through the results. We had to turn the life support machine off-" Nate says.

"What?" They all exclaim.

"But you said Kyle was alive?"

"You killed him without us there?"

"Kyle is alive." Nate quickly says. "He's now breathing by himself."

"What?" Brax frowns. "He's breathing…"

"He hasn't woken up yet, but his condition is slowly starting to improve now." Sid says. "I've never seen something like this before, it's a miracle." He smiles.

"So he's going to wake up?" Emily asks.

"This new situation is still in its very early stages, but it's looking likely that Kyle is going to wake up." Nate nods. "We're going to be keeping an extremely close eye on Kyle's condition. Please know that we were never expecting this to happen, I wouldn't have suggested turning Kyle's life support off if I knew-"

"It's fine, it's not like you knew something like this was going to happen, was it?" Brax says.

"No. This has been completely unpredictable." Nate says.

"Is he going to be okay once he wakes up?" Heath asks.

"It's hard to say. I'm a little worried about Kyle's kidneys. They're working at a very low rate but we'll be monitoring it closely to make sure it doesn't drop to a dangerous level. We'll place Kyle on dialysis if we feel it's necessary which right now it isn't. We'll monitor that just as closely as everything else but Kyle is doing extremely great in the circumstances."

"Do you have an idea on how long it will take Kyle to wake up?" Emily asks.

"It's hard to say. But talking to him, just letting him know you're there for him could help the process." Nate says, Emily instantly walking out to go and see her boyfriend.

"Thanks Nate." Brax smiles. "Is that everything? Can we go and see Kyle now?"

"Sure, I'll let you go. You know where I am if you have any questions." Nate smiles as they leave, walking down the corridor to Kyle's room, seeing Emily already talking to Kyle.

"Hey, doesn't it feel different now?" Emily smiles as they all gather around the bed, the atmosphere being a lot calmer and happier now.

"It does." Ricky nods with a smile.

"You told him to wake up yet?" Brax jokingly asks.

"Yep, didn't get much of a reaction." Emily says. "Maybe if I told him that I was now your favourite, he might wake up." She jokes back, getting a scoff from him.

"Wouldn't go that far." Brax rolls his eyes.

"Well either way he's got a lot to answer for." Heath says.

"For what?" Bianca asks.

"Putting us through the hell of needing to make a decision on his life support being turned off when this is what happened." Heath says.

"I won't argue with that." Brax says.

"I'm sorry for what I did." Lucas says to them all now they were all together.

"Don't be. Things might be different if you didn't barricade yourself in here. We would have already turned the machine off and this might not have happened." Brax says.

"It still doesn't make what I did right. I stopped you from being here with Kyle. You're right, things could have been different, Kyle could have died without us around him in his final moments. That would have been my fault." Lucas mutters.

"Yeah, it would've been." Emily agrees.

"But?" Brax says, staring at her.

"I guess we wouldn't be here if you didn't shut us out." Emily says.

"I think this has happened because you all came together for a really tough decision." Blake says. "Before Lucas barricaded himself in here, you all came together without arguing or fighting over who's right or wrong. That's what was said before, so why does anything have to be different now?"

"It doesn't."

"Then why don't you all agree that Lucas did the wrong thing, but nothing bad came out of it. I'd say he's a life saver in a way." Blake smiles at him.

"You don't need to win any points, he's already madly in love with you." Tyler says, smirking as Lucas glares at him before they all focus back on Kyle.
