Northern Districts Hospital
"You must rest, I don't want to see you back in here as a patient, okay?" Nate says to Tyler, who he had just discharged under strict rules.
"Yes, I will." Tyler nods.
"Okay, I'll let you go then." Nate smiles before going to check on other patients.
"Come on, we'll give you a lift home." Heath says as him and Bianca stand up.
"Are we not staying here longer?" Tyler frowns.
"Visiting hours are nearly over and Kyle will still have Emily, and I'm guessing either Brax or Lucas." Heath says. "Plus we need help moving our things out if you want to move in."
"It's getting pretty late in the day to be moving out, and I can't help you move out when I need to rest." Tyler says.
"Take my room for now." Kyle says.
"You sure?" Tyler asks.
"I think it's the least I can do after you gave me a kidney." Kyle smiles. "It's not like I need it right now either."
"Okay, thanks." Tyler smiles.
"Lucas, you coming with us?" Heath asks.
"You need to get some proper rest as well, come on." Blake smiles as they all stand us, saying bye to Emily, Brax and Kyle before leaving for the night.
"I don't think it will be too long until you're discharged." Emily smiles up at Kyle.
"Hopefully not. Sounds like I've been in here too long anyway." He jokes.
"Yeah, you have." Brax nods. "Emily, could you give us some time alone?" He asks.
"Sure, I could do with stretching my legs a bit." Emily nods, kissing Kyle before leaving them to it, guessing it was going to be important.
"Is everything okay?" Kyle asks his brother, who sits on the side of Kyle's bed.
"I just wanted to talk alone." Brax says. "How're you really feeling?"
"I'm still confused about a lot of things but I'm glad my real mum is now in prison so I don't have to see her again. And I guess I'm lucky that I'm alive after what you guys and Nate told me." Kyle says, still not able to understand how they got through it. "When you popped out earlier, before the others came, Lucas and Emily told me you haven't been doing great that it had something to do with me being here." He mutters, Brax glancing at him.
"It wasn't that simple."
"Why wasn't it?" Kyle asks. "It's something the others know, why am I being left out just because I was on deaths door?"
"I had a breakdown because everything got too much." Brax says, not wanting to lie to Kyle after everything they'd gone through before the accident with Kyle's counselling sessions. "I blamed myself for what happened to you. I never made sure your triplets mum had skipped town, I didn't make sure there wouldn't be a problem anymore and then she tried killing you. I didn't do anything to stop it and you nearly died. Doctors said there was nothing else they could do for you and I just went to a really bad place. But I'm okay now, you don't need to worry about it anymore."
"But it was because of me." Kyle sighs.
"Kyle I'm fine now, it was a just a few days that I didn't have my head straight. And anyway, when I came back here after that, it was made clear I wasn't to leave again." Brax lightly scoffs. "I always told you to be careful around Emily, she's a bossy one. So's those triplets of yours, especially Lucas." He shakes his head.
"Been around our family too long." Kyle laughs. "But why wouldn't you leave again just because of them?"
"Apparently your blood pressure was all over the place during the few days I was gone, and it suddenly got better when I went back. I don't really understand what happened but the others said it stopped. I think they were just playing with me for whatever reason." Brax says.
"How was everyone else?" Kyle asks.
"Emotions ran high, especially when we were told to make a decision about your life support. Lucas barracked himself in your room, refusing to let it happen. Blake managed to get through to him, that's when he came out as gay as well. Your machines started to go off and then about an hour or so later we were told you might wake up." Brax says.
"So Blake came out in front of all of you?"
"Yeah, said you had been leaving hints or something about who Lucas liked. I don't think they've left each others side properly since then."
"I never even really knew Blake was gay, I was just hoping I guess. I think it would be good for them both." Kyle says, happy for his triplet and best mate. "I'd also think it would be good for you to see someone over what you said."
"It's not happening, Kyle. I've told Ricky the same thing. I've dealt with it now and I'm doing a lot better, especially now you're awake, I don't have to worry about what's going to happen next." Brax says. "I want you to drop it, okay?"
"I don't think that's a good idea. You made me see someone after I was going through a rough patch, yours sounds a lot worse than what I had. It's not good to let yourself go through it alone and you didn't let me." Kyle says.
"Kyle, I thought I said I was fine now?" Brax says. "You don't need to worry about me because I will be fine. Yes, I went through a really rough patch and had some stuff to work through but I have now. I had Ricky helping me and she can be stubborn when she wants."
"And what happens if you're not really okay but think you are?"
"I am, I know I am." Brax says. "If we need to be worried about anyone, it's you."
"No it's not." Kyle says. "I'm fine."
"Recovering from brain surgery, internal injuries, they took your spleen out and you've got a broken leg." Brax says.
"You and Nate really like to keep reminding me of that." Kyle rolls his eyes. "You known I don't actually have bad brain damage like they thought I would?"
"No, but you could have. Stop worrying about the rest of us when you need to be focusing on getting better. You might think you feel fine but after what we've seen you go through, you're not, not yet."
"I will be. Yeah it hurts like hell when the pain meds wear off but I guess I can't complain, I could be dead as you all like to remind me."
"And we will keep reminding you until you realise how serious this actually was." Brax quite firmly says.
"I know, I'm sorry."
"Good." Brax smirks.
"Can I ask you something?" Kyle mutters, not sure if he should be asking after so long.
"Sure, what is it?" Brax asks.
"It's something I've had on my mind for a while, I don't even know why. I was going to talk to you about it the other day, actually that's not right… Before my accident." Kyle says, noticing Brax's expression. "Don't worry, that's not a sign of post brain damage, I'm still getting used to the fact that I've been in a coma for three weeks."
"As long as it is that, I'd like to think you'd tell us if something wasn't right." Brax says.
"I would." Kyle nods.
"So what's this thing that you were going to ask me?"
"If dad had told the truth about having an affair and that it resulted in me, Tyler and Lucas, what do you think would have happened?" Kyle asks, not even sure why it ever came to his mind, as he knew Brax wished they knew about them years ago.
"Kyle, you know I would have done everything in my power for you guys to have come to live with us a lot sooner. Even if there was a chance he really didn't know about Tyler and Lucas, they would have come as well. Although I highly doubt I would have coped with bringing up Heath, Casey and triplets." Brax smirks, wondering how that would have gone.
"I don't think you would have had a problem with me or Lucas, it's Tyler you would've had to watch out for. I think him and Heath would have caused a lot of trouble together." Kyle scoffs.
"Yep, I can imagine that. There would have been a lot of good things though, could have been a proper family sooner." Brax says, glancing down as he knew it would have meant he would have had more brothers to protect from their father.
"Least we're one now I guess, can't really complain at that." Kyle says.
"Yeah we are." Brax nods, noticing Emily was now waiting outside the room, so calls her in.
"Everything good in here?" Emily asks as she joins them at the bed.
"All good." Brax nods as he stands up. "I'm going to check in with Ricky, do you want me to bring any food back later?" He asks them both.
"Yes please! I really don't like this hospital food." Kyle says with a grin.
"We don't mind what you get." Emily smiles as Brax leaves with a nod. "Why don't you get some rest?"
"I'm not tired considering. Why don't we watch a film instead?" Kyle says.
"I thought you'd never ask." Emily smiles as she grabs her tablet from her bag.
