THE YEAR IS 1979. A PEACEFUL NIGHT AT STATELY WAYNE MANOR, WHERE MILLIONAIRE BRUCE WAYNE IS ROMANCING A FORMER ADVERSARY…

Bruce sat on the couch making out with Selina.

"Ever since the Boy Wonder grew up and flew the coop, we've had nothing but the best of times," Selina said. "I'm so glad you revealed your identity to me, Bruce. I really should have left Paradise Island sooner."

"And I'm so glad you've decided to give up your life of crime once and for all, Selina," Bruce said, "It seems Diana and her fellow Amazons had a remarkable effect on you. That being said, I still wish Alfred were here."

"Oh yeah, your old butler guy," Selina said, "Whatever happened to him?"

"That's right, you never heard the story," Bruce said, "Joker broke into our home and Alfred ended up dying from a heart attack. I blamed myself for it until Wonder Woman gave me hope again."

"She certainly is a very inspiring woman," Selina said, "But Alfred dying from a heart attack because of Joker? I heard stories that he fought off Joker were a fencing sword when he invaded your home during that painting caper of his."

"Yes, Alfred was quite resilient, but this was about 10 years afterward." Bruce said.

"So much has changed in this city since I've been gone," Selina said, "Barbara's the police commissioner now? Who knew? Next you'll be taking in another youthful ward."

"No, I'm afraid those days are behind me, Selina," Bruce said. "I don't want to endanger any more young lives, even though Dick turned out all right."

"Why?" Selina asked. "I promise I won't kill him, even if he does make more 'holy' exclamations. I hear tell the Green Hornet has a new female aide, after his first partner died."

"Yes," Bruce said, "And we found out too late that the Green Hornet was actually on the side of good after all."

"Ha, some detective," Selina said, "I could've told you that! He never did strike me as the criminal type. Plus, the way Joker and Gumm described how he helped you take them down screams more 'hero' than 'villain' to me."

"Well, I suppose you'd know how to spot a true criminal from a pretender," Bruce said, "considering your experience in that area."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Selina asked, "Watch your tongue, Bruce."

"Didn't mean to offend, Selina," Bruce said.

"Of course you didn't," Selina said, "Things have been rather quiet in Gotham lately, with Joker gone and ever since we defeated Ra's Al Ghul."

"Yes, they certainly have, haven't they?" Bruce said, as he leaned in closer to her. Suddenly, the bat-phone buzzed. Bruce picked it up.

"What is it, Barbara?" Bruce asked, "You're interrupting a very…intimate moment."

"You'll have time to smooch with Selina later," Barbara said, "Right now, Batman has a job to do. The Ventriloquist was just spotted fleeing the Gotham City first National Bank. Sources say the perfidious puppeteer and the sinister Scarface have joined forces with Baby Doll."

"We'll be right there, Barbara," Bruce said.

"Do you want me to come along as Batwoman?" Barbara asked.

"Negative," Bruce said, "you're needed at headquarters. Catwoman can help me, and I've called Nightwing too. He'll be coming from Bludhaven and meet us there."

"I'm not going," Selina said.

"Why not?" Bruce asked.

"I have business elsewhere," Selina said, "Besides, I never did like that talking scratching post, even though he only first showed up a few years ago."

"Just no funny business," Bruce said, as he pressed the button under the Shakespeare bust to reveal the hidden entrance to the Batcave.

"Bruce, when have you ever known my business to be funny?" Selina asked, rolling her eyes.

"You know what I mean," Bruce said emphatically.

"You don't trust me?" she asked with a pout and faux sadness, "You wound me, Bruce."

"Of course I trust you, but this is new," Bruce said.

"I'll behave myself, I promise," Selina said, as Bruce slid down the batpole.
