Chapter One
"Hyung, there is something wrong with Go Mi-Nam. When I went to get my phone back, I found him in tears."
A million thoughts were racing through his head as he ran towards where Go Mi-Nam was with Jeremy hot on his heels. He had a bad feeling about the situation. Jeremy looked really distraught. What could possibly be wrong. When he reached the balcony the sight that greeted his eyes made him stop abruptly. Tae-Kyung was crouched next to Go Mi-Nam holding her, comforting her while she sobbed uncontrollably. The cold and narcissistic prince was holding and soothing another human being. The way he was holding her, did he know she was a girl? Another sob tore through his thoughts tugging at his heart painfully. His hands balled into a fist, the compulsion to go to her and pulling her close growing stronger with every cry. Helplessly he stood rooted to his spot unable to do anything.
"What's wrong with Go Mi-Nam, does Tae-Kyung know?" Jeremy was confused.
"I think he might," Shin-Woo answered. "It is possible that he also knows everything." The words only added to Jeremy's confusion instead of clearing them. He stepped forward but a hand pressed him gently back. "Just leave them be for now." Shin-Woo explained softly, his eyes not leaving Mi-Nam's face.
Tae-Kyung was not back yet. He wondered what was holding him up. With effort he kept his features relaxed and friendly while he signed another autograph, smiled for another selfie with a fan, not showing in the slightest how worried he actually was. He wondered about Go Mi-Nam in her dressing room, getting a touch up from the Make-Up Artist. Would she be able to do the interview in the state she was in. Jeremy was across the hall surrounded by an equal mob of fans doing the exact same.
A while later the girl in question rushed down the corridor completely lost in thought, her head still throbbing from all the crying. She ran towards the back of the building away from the front lobby. Her Manager would be waiting by a fire exit with the car. It was a little difficult to move fast with the high heels but thankfully she had managed not trip up so far. She really had to get out of there before anyone saw her. She doubted that she would be recognised with the fake hair and make-up, but she rather be safe. She turned left when someone bumped into her shoulder and just as she was about to hit the ground that person tried to steady her, and she toppled face first into something hard and warm instead. A familiar scent teased at her senses. Panicked she lifted her head and was confronted with the wide brown eyes of Shin-Woo.
"Go Mi-Nam?" He whispered as he took in the sight. His heart thudded loudly in his ears as his eyes flitted over the soft curls of her hair, the rosy blush on her cheeks and the form fitting clothes that encased her feminine figure. She looked so beautiful he found himself temporarily speechless. The panic he found in her eyes was equal to a splash of cold water. She must have dressed like this to leave the building uninterrupted by reporters and fans he surmised fairly quickly.
"Shin-Woo hyung…I…" She started and stepped back from him fearfully, but he interrupted her with an understanding smile.
"It's a really good disguise Go Mi-Nam. You can get out without being recognised." He gently pushed her towards the direction she was going initially. "Go on, hurry."
She felt so drained and numb. Her mother was dead. All that she went through, all the lies she had told to find her, and it was all for nought. What was she going to do now? She sighed deeply and then took a shaky step towards where Shin-Woo would be. She would not be a coward. Did he know now? Did he figure it out? But then she remembered what he said in the corridor. He said it was a good disguise. She was now a cross-dresser, cross-dressing to look like a girl. Her head was spinning making her slightly dizzy. Pull yourself together now, Go Mi-Nyeo. What's done is done.
Later that night…
She still couldn't stop the giggles. She had expected the worst, had certainly not expected a party in her honour. They had made her forget all her sorrows. A. 's early appearances in variety shows were really hilarious, specially Tae-Kyung, however unintentional. Another giggle escaped her.
"I see you're still laughing; you were crying not much earlier." Tae-Hyung looked at her disapprovingly, arms crossed over his chest and slightly pouting.
"I know, but I feel so much better now, thank you hyung-nim. Your acting skills really cheered me up." Her lips twitched despite trying to keep her face straight.
"You don't sound that grateful Go Mi-Nam." He muttered. "I need to do something about those damn videos."
Maybe I should warn Jeremy to hide them. She thought to herself. "I suppose there is no more reason for me to stay any longer." She mused out loud. "I came here to find my mother, but now that I know that she is no longer here, it is time for me to return."
"You are going to leave."
"Yes, I did promise you after all. I will try not to create any more trouble for you and leave quietly." She bowed to him gratefully. "I will go now and help Shin-Woo now with cleaning up."
Tae-Kyung watched her leave with a displeased look in his eyes. She begged to stay for her mother, but she wouldn't do the same for her brother. I thought twins were supposed to be loyal to each other.
She was clearing the plates and stacking them on top each other, silently lending him a hand somewhat lost in thought.
"How are you feeling?" asked Shin-Woo looking at her searching for any signs that she might still be upset.
"I feel much better now, thank you all for giving me so much comfort." She smiled lightly.
"I could give you more comfort." He said suddenly.
Something in his tone made her look up into his eyes.
"If you reach out to me with honesty, I would be able to comfort you." He continued.
"Honesty?" She repeated feeling trapped by his intent gaze. She couldn't look away. What did he mean? Did he know? She felt a catch in her throat.
"Give me your hands" He said not looking away from her even for a moment. When she didn't react, he took both her hands into his own. She looked so scared that he swallowed down whatever he was going to say to her and just placed the plates into her hands instructing her to put them away. He let out a frustrated sigh after she scurried away.
She closed the door to her room and fell against it utterly exhausted. Her heart started pounding again when she thought about how Shin-Woo held her hands. She could have sworn he was about to say something else. What was wrong with her? Was she ill? She was feeling so confused. The thought of leaving them all behind made her feel lonely. Not seeing Tae-Kyung again made her feel sad but it was time for her to say goodbye. She needed to go to Rome as planned. She had put it off long enough.
Why did these things always happen to her? She was supposed to leave today. The day had started well enough, with Shin-Woo inviting her to eat out in a really fancy restaurant. There had been nothing of that awkwardness of last night between them and he had been so kind to even procure disguises they could use for the amusement park they were going to go to later.
How could she have known that Tae-Kyung would be in the same restaurant bathroom hyperventilating because his mother made him eat prawns. She couldn't just leave him like that. He had looked so pitiful. In the end they had used the Shin-Woo's disguises and spend the time out in town. She had managed to let Shin-Woo know that they wouldn't be able to continue their plans. He seemed upset when she returned home later with Tae-Kyung. She wondered if he'd met the girl he liked.
Tae-Kyung had surprised her at the end. The way he had smiled at her, she had never seen that expression on him before. It was a pity his fans never got to see that smile. He had looked happy. She would be taking that memory with her.
She had packed up her suitcase ready to leave when President Ahn Seong-Chang put a spanner in her plans, by suddenly turning up with her Aunt Go Mi-Ja in tow, saying she was to stay with them.
"Okay, Go Mi-Nam why don't you choose?" The President requested with a broad smile.
She peered at her three housemates. They were lined up like the contestant of a game show. Only she could clearly tell that none of them wanted to win the prize. The prize of sharing a room with Mi-Nyeo since her aunt Go Mi-Ja was to take her room. Jeremy looked really uncomfortable. Shin-Woo didn't even look at her, he was still giving her the cold shoulder for some reason and Tae-Kyung…if a mere glare could kill.
What was she going to do? She had promised Tae-Kyung that she wouldn't bother him any longer. She felt like throwing up any minute.
"Ah, I have an even better idea. Why don't we pull the name out of a hat?" President Ahn was really in his element and not reading the mood in the room at all. "Jeremy pass me your hat."
He ripped a piece of paper into three pieces and after writing each of the members names on it, folded them and dropped them into Jeremy's hat. He held the hat out to her with a grin. "Now, Go Mi-Nam."
Her fingers shook as she reached in and pulled out a folded piece dropping it silently into Ahn Seong-Chang's palm. "And the winner is..." He read out loud with the dramatic flair of a game show host.
"Shin-Woo."
Mi-Nyeo desperately wished the ground would swallow her up.
