Operation: Rescue Lillie is go! Let's begin!
Kitty looked over at Emma with a look of concern. She'd always been good at hiding her feelings, but Kitty could see right through her. Emma looked pained at the reveal that Lillie was being held here. She had looked up to Aether Paradise since their inception. She wanted to work for them, for Arceus sake!
"Em, you doing okay?" She had to ask.
"I'm fine," Emma said numbly. Kitty knew she wasn't, but chose not to push as they hopped off the boat.
"Aether Paradise's harbor...we made it this far without running into trouble," Gladion began. "But I don't like how quiet it is. You three...stay alert."
"But...why would Lillie be here at Aether Paradise?" Hau asked for himself and the girls.
"She just will be," Gladion said bluntly.
"Argh! This guy!" Hau exclaimed, turning to the girls with a pretty funny disgruntled expression, causing the girls to snicker a little. He then turned back to Gladion. "Fine. So what are we going to do?"
"Should we look around?" Kitty asked.
"I guess...we take the elevator," Gladion said.
"Please tell me you actually have a plan," Emma practically begged. Even if she was still in denial over the idea of Aether Paradise being evil, she still knew that storming the place was not a smart idea. Gladion merely walked ahead. "We are so going to get arrested for this."
"Not if we're right!" Hau pointed out. Emma flinched, but followed Gladion nonetheless. She was surprised that a bunch of Aether employees were waiting for them.
"Intruders spotted!" One called out.
"How do they not know who we are?!" Kitty cried as she was dragged into yet another battle.
"And how do they even know we are here?" Hau questioned. "Gladion said we weren't spotted!"
"Talk later! Fight now!" Emma snapped at them. Hau and Kitty shared another nervous look, but had to shrug it off in order to focus on their battles. They managed to make it to the elevator. Gladion was already waiting for them.
"Hmph. Just like I thought…" Gladion grumbled as he turned away from the elevator to face the other three.
"What were you doing there?" Hau asked.
"Looks like outsiders can't use the main elevator to reach the lower levels," Gladion revealed. "I was afraid this might happen. But still...what a pain."
"So...we need to dive under the water?" Kitty asked in an attempt at a joke. Much to her relief, Emma and Hau both laughed.
"No...we have to go up!" Gladion declared. With that, the elevator headed upwards. Emma clenched her fists. This was not going to be easy for her.
"I, Faba, am the Aether Branch Chief," Everyone groaned internally when they realized who they were going to have to deal with. "The only one in the world, I'm irreplaceable. And here you come back...uninvited!?"
"Like you don't know why," Gladion snapped at him. "You of all people should know all that happens in the Aether Foundation. Isn't that right, high-and-mighty Branch Chief?"
"Give us back Lillie!" Kitty barked at him.
Faba cackled as he walked towards the kids. "Look at you...living out in the world hasn't been kind, has it? But I'm still not telling you anything! And you of all people should understand why...Gladion."
"Hey guys? You know why being a trainer is so great?" Gladion asked, not waiting for an answer. "Because when you're battling, it doesn't matter if you're a kid or an adult. Everyone's equal in Pokémon battle!"
"Oh ho...is that right?" Faba mockingly asked. "Is that what you think? So you wish to battle me? Branch Chief Faba? The man who is called Aether Paradise's last line of defense is to battle a mere child!?"
"Bring it on...you bug eyed weirdo with an ugly beard!" Kitty said as she stepped forward. Faba gave a horribly offended gasp.
"How dare you!?" Faba snapped as he threw out his first Pokémon, a Hypno.
"Mimikyu, handle this clown!" Kitty ordered. "Now, Shadow Claw!"
"Kyu!" Mimikyu shot forward and attacked, dealing heavy damage to Hypno.
"Hypno, use Disable," Faba said. He realized that he was screwed bringing only one Pokémon. And he knew that Hypno's sole attacking move would not affect Mimikyu at all. But maybe he could stall-
"Mimikyu, X-Scissor!"
Or not.
"Well done Kitty!" Hau cheered.
"So, Mister Branch Chief, is that all you got?" Kitty taunted. Faba just scowled.
"H-How can this be?!" Faba exclaimed. "How could this child…"
"So…" Gladion began. "As I said, Faba. You of all people know what we're here for."
"Indeed…" Faba trailed off. "The world truly hasn't been kind, has it? Look how hard it has made you. If you're looking for Cosmog, I suppose it would be downstairs."
"Downstairs?!" Hau exclaimed.
"Didn't Ms. Wicke say there was another level when we were here the other day?" Kitty pointed out.
"If I had to take a guess, it's their labs," Emma said. "What are you guys doing down there!?"
Faba shrugged. "Experiments to reach a world different from Alola…That's what I've been told, yes."
"We're in a bit of a hurry, Faba. A lift would be nice," Gladion chimed in.
"Why not? This is an act of kindness I can do for you thanks to my position as branch chief," Faba said. Everyone kept a hand on their Pokéballs just in case as he adjusted the settings on the lift.
"If you guys are ready, let's head down," Gladion said.
"Let's do this!" Kitty said as she raised her fists.
"You said it Kitty!" Hau agreed as they shared a high five. Everyone turned to look at Emma, who merely nodded. Everyone nodded back.
"...Alright. Let's go," Gladion said once Faba finished. As he hit the buttons, Emma noticed Faba smirking.
"We're about to walk into a trap, aren't we?" She internally groaned.
"...Everything looks the same," Gladion noticed once they arrived at the labs. "I guess it's only been two years, though."
"Wow, it's like a secret hideout!" Hau exclaimed as he rushed off the lift.
"Don't get too excited, Hau," Gladion warned. He then smirked. "Though I guess it's better than freezing from fear or nerves."
"So where do we go now?" Hau asked.
"There are two labs up ahead. Me and you will check the first lab, Secret Lab A. Emma, Kitty, you will check Secret Lab B. It's the second lab, down the hall," Gladion explained.
"Why do you get the first one with me?" Hau asked. "And why do you know about all this?"
"...Just focus, Hau. Think you can do that?" Gladion replied in a clear attempt to dodge the question. "We can't trust Faba. I'm sure he's already told half the foundation all about us."
"I saw him smirking on the way down. No doubt he's plotting something," Emma chimed in. "Never liked him anyways."
"You didn't even answer my question…" Hau pointed out. "I know what it's gotta be. Nerves, eh? I reckon that you're more afraid to be here then any of us, huh, Gladion?" Gladion didn't reply. "Lillie must be scared right now...let's buckle down and do this!" With that, he and Gladion headed into the first lab, causing Emma and Kitty to walk over to the second one, stopping to deal with some scientists.
"Ready Em?" Kitty asked as she put her hand on the door.
"Ready!" Emma declared as she put her own hand on the door. With a nod, the duo pushed the door open. A few workers inside noticed them walk in.
"Wh-what are you kids doing here?!" The worker screamed at the kids. "Don't touch anything with your grimy hands!"
"This research is our life!" The other worker snapped. "I don't care if you're a kid or what. I'll send you flying if you threaten it!"
"We aren't trying to damage anything!" Emma tried to insist. "We're just looking for someone!"
"What are you looking for?" The male worker suspiciously asked.
"Did you see a girl about our age? With a bag?" Kitty asked. "Lillie and Cosmog?"
"She's not here, is she?" The female worker mocked them. "Even you kids can see that!" The workers then walked off.
"Let's split up and look around," Emma ordered her sister. "Maybe we'll find some clue?"
"You got it Em!" Kitty said as she walked towards the window in the labs to see if she could see the subject. Emma, on the other hand, went to check out the books and notes. She found research on the Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Beasts.
"What does this stuff have to do with Lillie?" Emma wondered as she checked out the computer. Her hands flew to her mouth as she read the report.
"Emma? What's wrong?" Kitty asked as she walked over to her sister. Emma merely moved aside, letting the sisters read the report together.
"Cosmog is hypothesized to be a type of Ultra Beast that hails from another dimension. A dimension we have named Ultra Space. When placed under sufficient stress, it reveals the power to create and open Ultra Wormholes in order to escape the suffering. We are now working on a device that will allow us to manipulate the Ultra Wormholes created when Cosmog is subjected to extreme stress…"
"So Cosmog is an Ultra Beast!?" Kitty exclaimed.
"I don't know?" Emma said. "But we should tell the boys." She began to walk towards the door. "C'mon. Let's get going." Kitty nodded and followed her. Gladion and Hau were waiting for them outside.
"Did you find anything?" Gladion asked.
"We learned a bit about Cosmog!" Kitty cried before Emma could get a word in.
"The reports claimed that it might be an Ultra Beast and that, if put under extreme stress, it will create Ultra Wormholes," Emma explained as professionally as we could.
"If you stress it…" Gladion trailed off. "If you hurt it-is that what you mean? Was that why she ran away with Cosmog? She was always too nice…"
"But we didn't find any sign of it down here," Hau pointed out.
"Yeah...Faba probably knew this was a dead end," Gladion noted.
"That snake!" Emma snapped. "Knew he was a slimeball!"
"Damn...did he outsmart us?" Gladion asked. He then rushed back towards the elevator.
"Gladion never really explains anything, eh?" Hau noted with a smile. "Probably thinks it makes him look cool...Should we go after him? We are all in this together. Might as well see it to the end together!"
"Let's go then!" Kitty said as she and Hau rushed after Gladion. Emma trailed behind them. She had a feeling she knew who was running all these experiments.
And she really, really hoped she was wrong.
"Yeesh, Emma, what took you?" Hau asked once Emma finally arrived. Kitty flinched and elbowed Hau before she could say anything else.
"Hmph...even beaten down, old Faba doesn't change, does he?" Gladion grunted.
Hau shook his head. "So what do we do now?"
"Beat whoever stands in our way," Gladion replied. "What other choice do we have?"
"Fine," Kitty groaned. "But do you have to be so negative about it all the time?"
"Hello children," Another worker greeted them as they, along with three other workers ran over to the group. "I'm afraid Branch Chief Faba has given us orders regarding you four. Now that you have learned the darkness of Aether Paradise, we'll need you all to conveniently disappear!"
"Good luck with that!" Kitty challenged two of the workers. "Emma, battle these guys with me!...Emma?" Kitty looked over at her sister, who just numbly nodded at her. Kitty nodded back. The battle was easy, but Kitty could tell Emma's heart was not in it. But then again, Kitty couldn't blame her. Emma just learned that her heroes had been doing some extremely shady things. Kitty wasn't sure if she had taken it any better. She just hoped that she could help Emma get over it.
"Ridiculous," The head worker snapped, once he and his co-workers had all been beaten. "...Have the children of Alola always been this strong?"
"That's what you get when you go through the trials of the Island Challenge," Gladion declared, shooting a glance at each of his three partners. "Now that you understand...how about you get out of our way?" The workers all ran away screaming.
"I really wish I could enjoy these battles you can't afford to lose," Hau admitted. "Maybe if I just got stronger…"
"Let's go," Gladion said, cutting off Hau's thoughts. "I know we aren't friends. But I'm glad you guys are here…I remember what you said at Battle Royale Dome that day, Hau. About how people can achieve way more if they do things together." He then cracked a smile. "Looks like maybe you were right." All Hau could do was smile and nod.
"Young master," Everyone turned around to see Wicke standing nearby.
"What'd you mean 'young master'!?" Hau and Kitty both exclaimed, while Emma's eyes went slightly wide in surprise.
"It's been a long time…" Wicke admitted as she walked towards the group. "And hello to you three. Please allow me to heal your Pokémon."
"Nice to see that at least one of the people here is still on our side!" Kitty said happily. Emma finally managed a smile as she handed her bag over.
"What happened to Lillie? Do you know anything?" Gladion asked rapidly as Wicke healed his Pokémon.
"I...imagine she is with the president," Wicke revealed. Kitty then realized why Emma hadn't spoken since they left the labs.
She had already figured it out.
"Emma…" Kitty trailed off. She could see the pain and betrayal in her sister's eyes. She placed her hand on her sister's hand in support. Emma gave her a weak smile.
"Then that's where I'm going," Gladion declared. "That's all I need to know."
"The president? That's Miss Lusamine, right?" Hau clarified. "She's a really nice person, so I'm sure she'll listen to us if we explain everything nicely!"
"Hau...you are so dense sometimes," Kitty internally noted.
"Yeah, she's real nice...as long as you mean nothing to her," Gladion gruffly replied.
"But I'm afraid the doors have been locked…" Wicke revealed.
"Again!?" Hau cried.
"That's not stopping me," Gladion declared before rushing off, followed by Hau, and Kitty.
"Emma, I know that this was hard for you," Wicke assured the young teen, who flinched a little. "I know that the Aether Foundation are your heroes, but I can assure you that many members are just misled."
"I...thank you," Emma replied as she rushed after her friends. She wasn't even sure if it was just something Wicke said to get her head back in order. But if it meant she got to show up that jerk Faba, she was happy. Speaking of him, he and a few employees were blocking the door.
"My, my...what naughty children. You should just lay your heavy heads down," Faba taunted. "But I knew you would struggle onward-I could see through every action you would take. So I knew you would try to reach the president. And that is why! I knew I would be able to ambush you here, just in front of the mansion where the president remains, and remedy my previous failure."
"Failure is an understatement," Emma replied. "You had one Pokémon and fought someone with a full team of six."
"Why you-!" Faba was ready to snap, but calmed down in order to compose himself. He would win this time! "The only reason I let you in the lower floor was to buy time to gather more time to stop you."
"Wow, Mr. Faba! You're so nice!" Hau began. Emma and Kitty looked at each other in confusion. Where was he going with this?
"W-well...of course! I am a wonderful branch chief, after all!" Everyone rolled their eyes. Of course Faba couldn't resist having his ego stroked.
"We didn't even have to ask where the president was and you just confirmed it for us!" Hau laughed. Gladion smirked while Emma and Kitty went into a fit of giggles. "So the president is up ahead, huh? Thanks! Now we know where to find Cosmog and Lillie!"
"WHAT!?" Faba cried once his mind caught up to everyone else. "E-enough! You lot! Teach these children a lesson!" Three of his workers stepped up to Hau, Emma and Gladion, leaving Kitty free for Hau. "And you, child! I didn't forget my loss to you. So, just to ensure I win, I will be fighting you with my employee here."
"Wow, can't even beat me yourself?" Kitty mockingly asked. "That's sad." She then grabbed a Pokéball. "But if you insist…."
One pathetic battle later
"H-how is this possible!?" Faba exclaimed in fear. "To be cornered by mere children?!"
"I wanna help save Lillie and Cosmog, so I'm going ahead!" Hau declared as he and Gladion walked up to Faba, getting as close to him as possible. "You don't mind, right?!" Faba looked around: Gladion was sneering at him, Emma's Incineroar was pounding it's fist into its palm, Kitty's Lycanroc was baring its fangs and Hau was grinning evilly at him. With a shaking hand, Faba merely handed Emma the keys.
"Pleasure doing business with ya!" Emma taunted as the group rushed over to the door to open it, Hau waving at Faba as they went.
"This is why...this is why I can't bring myself to like children,"
"Whoa…" Kitty trailed off. How did they never notice there was a mansion here!?
"What the heck are these guys doing here?!" Emma exclaimed as she gestured to the many Team Skull grunts laying around. Gladion paid them no mind, rushing for the mansion.
"Hey, wait!" Hau called after him. But Gladion didn't listen. He only froze when he saw Guzma blocking his path. "So the foundation was really working with Team Skull? This is, like, way too mind blowing to think about right now."
"No kidding," Emma grumbled. "But it looks like we're gonna have to fight our way to Gladion and Guzma. So, break out your Team Skull fighting gloves!" Kitty and Hau smirked and nodded. They were able to make it through with ease. By the time they reached Gladion, he had already lost.
"Ngh! So I'm still not strong enough!" He grunted. "All the days that I struggled alone and lonely...it was all for nothing? Is that it?" Guzma just smirked at him. Kitty stepped forward.
"The hated boss who beats you down and beats you down and never lets up...Yeah! Big Boy Guzma was here!" Guzma boasted. "I did that spoiled little brat a favor and crushed me. Yeah, that was me. Y'know, I kinda liked you, kid. Leaving home like that and wanting to get stronger and stronger. You had some real guts. Going so far as coming over to Team Skull. And rejecting your own father!? That was impressive. And now it's your turn, lil sis! You little misfits keep getting up in my girl, like a cloud of smoke that I can't brush away. It's time I put out your fire at the source!"
"Bring it on! If my sister could beat you, so could I!" Kitty declared. "Bewear, go!"
"Haha! Masquerain, deal with this!" Guzma laughed.
"Bewear, use Hammer Arm!" Kitty ordered. This dealt with Masquerain effortlessly.
"Grr! Pinsir! Go!" Guzma snapped. Another Hammer Arm effortlessly dealt with it, Vikavolt and Golispod.
"Yeah!" Kitty boasted.
"Nice job, Kitty!" Emma cheered.
"Guzma! What is wrong with you!?" Guzma roared as he clutched his head. "Tch. Looks like I got no choice. Go on...go through!" Emma and Kitty nodded and walked through. Waiting inside was Zossie and Dulse.
"An Alola to you two," Zossie greeted the girls.
"It is the custom of your people to have your Pokémon do battle if your goals are in conflict with those of another, isn't it?" Dulse asked. "That is what we learned during the course of our research."
"What do you mean, conflict?" Emma asked.
"I may not be well practiced in Pokémon battle, but I will make you leave Cosmog to us," Dulse revealed. "Show her your power, Poipole!"
"Ugh, why is nothing ever easy!" Emma groaned as she pulled out Vikavolt's Pokéball. She dealt with the strange Pokémon effortlessly.
"Even with all our technology, we cannot control the outcome of battle," Dulse admitted. "This must be why we are unable to maintain perfect control over Necrozma…"
"You people here in Alola really are something, being able to make your Pokémon battle and all!" Zossie was impressed. "But…"
"Do not fear, Zossie." Dulse assured his younger partner. "We can rely upon the strength of the Aether Foundation. We will use Cosmog and send formidable Pokémon Trainers through the Ultra Wormhole to battle and defeat Necrozma. That is why we had the scientist Colress create a device that will be to restrain Necrozma!"
"The president is going to help us!" Zossie cheered. "Please don't get in our way…"
"We don't want too...but we don't have a choice," Emma replied as she and Kitty headed further inside. In the next room, Lillie was confronting Lusamine. Lusamine then noticed Emma and Kitty walking in.
"Ah, Emma, Kitty. It's been a while since we last saw you," Lusamine greeted them.
"Wha-?!" Lillie exclaimed as she turned around to see the sisters.
"Good to see you again Lillie," Emma greeted.
"Y...you came?" Lillie asked in shock. "You actually came to help me? Thank you…thank you!"
"Hmm...so you two know each other?" Lusamine asked. "Two gifted young trainers...and they bother with someone like you? How disappointing."
"I don't need your approval, Mother!" Lillie snapped. "Or your permission! I will save Cosmog!"
"MOTHER?!" Emma and Kitty exclaimed in shock.
"Actually...now I see it," Emma admitted after a few seconds.
"My...you do say such incomprehensible things," Lusamine chasisted. "Calling me mother? I don't have children! Certainly not any wretched children who would run off and regret my love! So tell me how you'll save that Pokémon. What can you do, Lillie? You failed to convince me to listen to you. You don't even have the strength of a Trainer. The only thing that you've ever done on your own is steal someone else's research material!"
"Lillie…" Kitty trailed off, placing her hand on Lillie's shoulder. She merely looked down.
"It's so terribly unattractive," Lusamine continued as she turned away. "But know that my fathomless love will save even someone like you...when I protect this entire world from darkness!"
"Protect this world…?" Lillie questioned, trying to understand what her mother wanted. "Mother! What is it you're trying to do?! Is that why you want Nebby? Is that what you would sacrifice Cosmog for?"
"That's right...I will force Cosmog to use its power, and it may very well die. But if it will save the world for all of my beloved Pokémon, then that is what I will do," Lusamine revealed, still not bothering to face the kids. She hit something on her mirror, revealing that it had a teleporter hidden behind it. She turned around. "Lillie. I will be using the Cosmog you stole for a great purpose. You have kept it safe until now, and for that...I thank you." With that, she disappeared.
"Mother!" Lillie exclaimed.
"Lillie, are you okay?" Emma asked. She was utterly crushed that she turned out to be right, but her younger friend needed her for comfort.
"Emma, Kitty...I really am happy that you came after me…" Lillie said with a sigh of relief. "But...but...I...I want to save Nebby, but I don't know what to do!" She broke down sobbing into Emma's arms.
"Hey...hey, it's gonna be okay," Emma said as she used one hand to rub Lillie's back and the other to brush away her tears. "Listen, no matter what, Kitty and I are gonna try our hardest to save Nebby and stop your mother. I promise on my starter."
"Really?" Lillie asked, sniffling a little.
"You bet!" Kitty assured Lillie, pulling her into a hug. Lillie blushed a little, but smiled.
"Thank you…" She said.
"Now c'mon Kitty!" Emma ordered as she pointed towards the teleporter. "Let's go get Nebby back!" Emma hit it first, followed by Kitty.
"Whoa…" Kitty trailed off as she looked around. The teleporter led to a strange room full of water. There were a bunch of strange containers. Lusamine was standing in the middle of the room with a strange black case at her feet.
"What is this place?" Emma asked as Lillie teleported in.
"I d-don't know…?" Lillie had to admit.
"If you want to see, you'd better hurry," Lusamine taunted them. "This way."
"What is in these?" Emma asked as she looked over the containers. Brushing aside some frost, she let out a scream.
Inside was a frozen Slowpoke.
"What do you think? It's my private collection," Lusamine revealed. Emma promptly doubled over and threw up. She was so disgusted.."My precious babies...they will all be preserved for eternity here.
"This is so wrong!" Kitty cried.
"But if the light is stolen from this world, then I won't be able to love my babies any longer." Lusamine then spread her legs out. "So I will open the Ultra Wormhole and take on the Pokémon that would steal our light...I will capture even poor Necrozma!" Hau and Gladion then teleported in.
"Whoa! Hey guys!" Hau greeted them with a wave. "Whoa-ho! And Lillie! Man, I'm so glad to see you're OK!"
"Ah. Sweet Hau. So you came, too?" Lusamine asked. "I know better than to expect much from the members of the Ultra Recon Squad, but really...couldn't Guzma even stop a few children?"
"Listen to us. Please!" Gladion begged. "Don't open the Ultra Wormhole! We can't lose anyone else...not like we lost Father!"
"Do you think I've forgotten!?" Lusamine snapped at him as she walked forward. "As if I could forget what happened that day...I hate the Ultra Wormholes from the depths of my being! But that is why I will be the one to go! I will not let anyone stop me! Not even my own daughter and son!"
"Does ANYONE ELSE want to reveal who they've been secretly related to this whole time?!" Kitty exclaimed as she threw her hands up. Emma looked just about done with all the reveals as well.
"Wait!? You are all a family?!" Hau cried as he looked between Gladion, Lillie and Lusamine. He could see the resemblance now.
"Perhaps we once were…" Lusamine trailed off, clenching her fists. "Sweet Hau. But those wretches besides you left me." She then turned away. "But I will still save them. With all the endless love of the president of the Aether Foundation, as someone tasked with the protection of all Pokémon…" She walked forwards, towards a strange case on the ground. "I was able to open an Ultra Wormhole using just the gases we'd extracted from Cosmog when it was in Aether Paradise, wasn't I?" The crate shook.
"Nebby…" Lillie said quietly.
"And now I have Cosmog itself inside this crate here," Lusamine continued, undaunted. "If I use its entire body, I should be able to control the Ultra Wormhole."
"Please don't do this!" Emma begged. "You don't know what is beyond the Ultra Wormhole. This is going too far!" Tears began to stream down her face. "For someone who claims to want to protect all Pokémon, you sure don't have a problem risking Cos-no, Nebby. And what if Necrozma is too strong for you!? It's already destroyed one universe! And you want to risk letting it into ours!?" Emma gave a bitter chuckle. "You know, I used to look up to you. I wanted to be like you! But...now...I still believe in your mission here at the Aether Foundation...but I don't believe in you." Lusamine couldn't reply. She tried to muster an answer, a word, anything, to refute Emma, but her words, plus her heartbroken expression, was too much for Lusamine to handle.
"If Nebby isn't-if you make it use too much of its power…" Lillie began to chime in. "You don't understand what will happen! Like when we ran away from the Paradise...it couldn't move for ages after that...IF YOU USE TOO MUCH OF ITS POWER, IT WILL DIE!"
I...I am Lusamine," Lusamine managed to say. She walked over to the control panels and began to enter some commands on them. Suddenly, the world began to seemingly warp around them as an Ultra Wormhole opened up.
"EVERYONE GET DOWN!" Emma ordered as the kids all dove behind whatever cover they could find. If anything did come out, they did not want to be seen by it. Mercifully, the portal failed to open all the way.
"Phew…" Kitty breathed a sigh of relief as everyone nervously stepped out.
"Oh?" Lusamine shook her head, realizing what the problem was. "You are trying to resist, aren't you, Cosmog? But why? For Lillie's sake, perhaps?"
"P...ew…"
"How gallant you are…" Lusamine almost seemed impressed. "You love Lillie, don't you?" She chuckled a little. "Perhaps Gladion and Lillie have both grown up a bit since leaving Aether. But I still won't allow them to interfere with this! If I am going to protect the Pokémon of Alola, I must go through the Ultra Wormhole and meet this Necrozma! I will have Cosmog open the Ultra Wormhole. No matter what! I will use the power of its cage to insure that it cannot resist any further!"
"Hope I'm not too late for this party!" Guzma declared as he teleported in.
"There you are." Lusamine said with a sigh. Lillie shook her head a few times. This was insane!
"Mother, if you disappear too-!" Gladion began, only for Lusamine to cut him off.
"Now you worry for me?" She questioned him. "Fine, Gladion. I will do what I must to put your worries to rest...by demonstrating my strength in battle." She then surveyed the group. "Let's see...Yes, you. Emma. You will battle me. If I can defeat even you, then that should silence Lillie's last objections as well!"
"If it has to be this way...then fine!" Emma replied as she stepped forward. Maybe if she won, she could dissuade Lusamine from continuing onward. "Incineroar, go!"
"Lilligant, handle this," Lusamine announced as she sent out her own Pokémon. "Petal Dance!" Emma didn't bother telling Incineroar to dodge, as she knew he could tank the attack. Sure enough, it did little damage.
"Fire Fang!" Emma ordered. The attack landed and knocked Lilligant out almost on contact. Lusamine then sent out her next Pokémon, a Bewear.
"Bewear, Drain Punch," Lusamine ordered before Emma could even speak. The attack landed and dealt heavy damage, which, combined with what the Petal Dance had done, knocked Incineroar out.
"Okay, new plan," Emma said as she recalled her starter. "Mudsdale, let's go!"
"Bewear, Drain Punch again," Lusamine said. The attack landed, but Mudsdale remained standing.
"Mudsdale, Counter," Emma ordered smugly. The attack was dealt back even harder, knocking out Beware.
"Milotic, go," Lusamine said.
"Mudsdale, come back," Emma said as she returned him to his Pokémon. "Lurantis, take this guy down!"
Lusamine just smirked. "Icy Wind,"
"Crap!" Emma internally exclaimed. Somehow, Lurantis was able to remain standing. "Okay, Leaf Blade!"
"LUR!" Lurantis attacked best it could, and while it dealt heavy damage, it failed to knock out the Milotic.
"Milotic, Icy Wind again," Lusamine ordered. This time, Lurantis was barely able to stand.
"Lurantis, you can do this!" Emma encouraged her Pokémon. "Now, Razor Leaf!" Lurantis managed to attack down the Milotic before passing out itself. "Lycanroc, let's do this!"
"Mismagius," Lusamine replied simply as she sent out the Ghost Type. "Shadow Ball!" Lycanroc narrowly managed to dodge out of the way.
"Lycanroc, Crunch!" Emma ordered. Lycanroc lunged forward and bit down. It dealt damage, but Mismagius threw Lycanroc off.
"Mismagius, Mystical Fire," Lusamine ordered. The attack landed, but Lycanroc remained standing.
"Lycanroc, Bite!" Emma ordered. This finished off Mismagius.
"Lopunny, go," Lusamine ordered. "Ice punch." This took care of Lycanroc. Emma opted to send Mudsdale back out. "Thunder Punch."
"Mudsdale! Dodge!" Emma called out. Mudsdale barely got out of the way. "Okay, now Superpower!" This took care of Lopunny with no problem.
"Clefable, end this!" Lusamine ordered, slowly getting more and more enraged. Emma returned Mudsdale to his Pokéball again.
"Golisopod, let's go!" Emma ordered as she pulled out a Z-Crystal to put into her Z-Ring. "Golisopod, unleash your power with your Z-Move: ACID DOWNPOUR!"
"GOLISOPOD!" This finished off Clefable, as well as Lusamine's final Pokémon. Both Trainers were breathing heavily.
Lusamine began to chuckle. "Heh heh heh...oh, Emma, you are strong. You should carry on with your Island Challenge." She then turned back to the others in the room. "Perhaps I've made you feel uneasy about my ability to handle this task? I will be fine. I won't be alone. Guzma. With me."
"Yes, ma'am!" Guzma replied with a nod. With that, Lusamine turned away from the kids again.
"I am off to capture Necrozma," Lusamine replied.
"Wait! Let me go! My partner Null was born to be a beast killer!" Gladion begged. "I've trained it all this time to be able to battle on the other side of the Ultra Wormhole!"
"You're a sweet boy…" Lusamine had to admit as she held up Nebby's cage. "But do not worry. You can leave it all in my hands! Children would really be much happier...if they'd only listen to the adults around them." Holding up the crate, Lusamine watched with a grin as an Ultra Wormhole opened right before them. The kids all began to freak out as Emma moved to protect them all. Lusamine merely entered the portal with a smile, while Guzma rushed after her. Before anyone else could react, the portal shut.
Holy crap this was a long one! But there was a lot to cover. So, eagle eyed readers might have noticed that I gave Lusamine six Pokémon, compared to the five she had in game. This is because I thought it was stupid that the big bad of the games didn't have a full team of six. And she already has a team of six since depending on whether you are playing the originals or the Ultra Games, she has either a Lopunny or a Mismagius. Hence me giving her both.
