Tech-Star: Thank you!
Like I said last time, this chapter is gonna be the big event: Emma and Kitty heading after Necrozma! But I have made you wait long enough! (College is already crushing me). Let us begin!
"Well...this is it," Emma said as she and Kitty looked around the Altar of the Sunne.
"It's huge!" Kitty exclaimed as she pulled out her phone to snap a series of selfies. As much as Emma wanted to tell her off, she was mostly just happy that her sister was still herself after everything they had gone through.
"Emma! Kitty!" Lillie called out as she and Hapu arrived. Hapu hopped off Mudsdale and walked in front of the group.
"Our history tells us that the Vast Poni Canyon trial was the very first trial ever to be held," She revealed with the wisdom of an older traveller. "You two did a fine job clearing it."
"You've cleaned your seventh trial in Alola's island challenge now! That's wonderful!" Lillie cheered for her friend. "You've pushed yourself beyond your limits and really become great trainers, haven't you?"
"Huh...I guess we have," Kitty said with a smile.
"And you never could have done it without your Pokémon! Let me heal them for you quickly!" Lillie said. Emma and Kitty handed their Pokéballs over while Lillie pulled out her supply of potions.
"Look at the three of you. I think this might just work out," Hapu said before grinning. "No, I am quite sure of it!"
"The Sun Flute...and the Moon Flute...if we sound both together…" Lillie was still trying to make sure she understood everything they needed to do. She turned back to the sisters. "Let's go!"
"You're the boss!" Emma replied with a smile as the girls began to walk up the staircase, Kitty still taking pictures and selfies all the while.
"I can feel the strong power of the sun," Lillie said once they arrived at the top. "Nebby...before I can return you back to your original form, I've got to go find my mother! I have to tell her...I have to tell her how I feel...And then we'll find a way to stand against Necrozma together!" She then handed Emma and Kitty the Moon Flute.
"It feels so strange to hold this…" Emma said as she fiddled with it in her hand. Even if it wasn't her normal topic of study, Emma wanted to learn more about these flutes.
"The Sun Flute...it feels like it was made to fit my hand. I think I can play it…" Lillie assured the girls.
"Yeah, I think I get what you mean…" Emma said. She turned to her sister. "Kitty...I trust you to keep Lillie and I safe. So if anything bad comes out, let 'em have it!"
Kitty smiled and gave Emma a hug. "I'll keep you safe. I promise."
"I know you will," Emma replied as she turned to face Lillie, who had walked onto a platform in the middle of a stream.
"Emma, you should stand over there," Lillie said as she pointed to another platform on the other side of the altar. Emma did as she was told while Kitty stood behind them, keeping her hand on Primarina's Pokéball. Emma took another deep breath and turned to Lillie.
"The middle of the day...I think this is perfect for us!" Lillie said as she put the Sun Flute near her mouth. Emma did the same with the Moon Flute and both girls began to play in unison. Much to their relief, the flutes were rather simple to play and whatever they were playing seemed to be working as suddenly, the water began to glow. Emma and Lillie stopped playing as they watched part of the altar open up and fire a giant laser at the ground. Suddenly, Lillie's bag flew off and straight into the blast that the laser was formed. Nebby flew out of the bag and began to glow. The glow was so bright that all of the girls shielded their eyes. Suddenly, Nebby transformed into a majestic white lion.
"That's Solgaleo!" Emma called out.
"You mean...Nebby was Solgaleo this whole time!?" Kitty exclaimed as Solgaleo landed in front of her. Emma and Lillie rushed over to her.
"Nebby...th-thank goodness...you're all right...Please don't ever do that again! You made me worry so much!" Lillie cried. "And I never imagined that sounding the flutes would give you so much power…or let you evolve into the Legendary Pokémon!"
"This is incredible!" Emma exclaimed, having already pulled her notebook out and scribbling down everything she had just learned. This could be what got her a professorship!
"This is, like, so cool!" Kitty said as she began to take pictures.
"Not in all our reading...never did I or Emma ever come across any hint that you would evolve into the Legendary Pokémon…" Lillie then looked down. "Please, Solgaleo…" She then shook her head. "No...Nebby. Please. I need to go where my mother is! We want to protect Alola, but there's no need for her to try to catch Necrozma all on her own!"
"SOL!" Solgaleo roared out. The girls all smiled. Nebby had agreed to help.
"Now we can finally follow after Mother-" Before Lillie could finish her sentence, Guzma was suddenly dropped in front of them.
"Guzma!?" Emma exclaimed in shock. "But how did you-!?"
"Guh!" Lusamine grunted as she was dropped on top of Guzma.
"Mother as well!?" Lillie exclaimed. Emma and Kitty's hands were already on their Pokéballs. Something was about to go wrong.
"Look out!" Kitty called out as she pointed towards a large Ultra Wormhole. A strange black creature emerged from it.
"Y-you children…" Lusamine struggled to speak. "Run away...That thing...is a monster!"
"That's Necrozma?!" Emma exclaimed.
"Mother!" Lillie cried.
"That is Necrozma…" Lusamine grunted out as she struggled to stay conscious, as if to answer Emma's question. "The instant it woke, it flew into a rage and repelled everything that came near it! Lillie! Run from this place! You can't do anything!"
"Maybe we can't...but I think Nebby can," Kitty said as confidently as she could. She wasn't even sure if Solgaleo could beat Necrozma, but she had to hope for the best. Necrozma and Solgaleo began to stare each other down, until Solgaleo charged forward. The two Legendary beasts charged each other repeatedly, only they finally came crashing down towards the girls, who all narrowly jumped out of the way. Everyone gasped in horror as Solgaleo was pinned down by Necrozma. Necrozma's hand began to glow.
"Nebby!" Lillie exclaimed. The glow grew too bright, leading everyone to shield their eyes again. Much to their horror, when the light died down, Necrozma had fused itself into Solgaleo. "Nebby...no…" Suddenly, Ultra Wormholes began to open all over Alola.
"What is that thing?!" Kitty cried.
"I don't know, but we need to stop it before it tears all of Alola!" Emma called back. "Incineroar! Let's do this!"
"Primarina! Help me back up Emma!" Kitty called out. Both starters came out with a battle cry.
"Incineroar, unleash your power with your Z-Move: MALICIOUS MOONSAULT!" Emma roared as the boxing ring formed around the monster in front of them. With all it's might, Incineroar belly flopped onto Necrozma.
"Primarina, unleash your power with your Z-Move: OCEANIC OPERETTA!" Kitty decided to take her sister's lead and unleash her strongest move as soon as she could. Nercrozma was assaulted by a torrent of water. Necrozma suddenly let out a roar and no one could tell if Emma and Kitty had actually defeated it or if it had just gotten angry. Darkness began to flow out of it as it slowly lowered itself into another Ultra Wormhole.
"No!" Lillie cried as the Wormhole closed. "Nebby…"
"We've got another problem!" Kitty exclaimed as she pointed towards the sky. There was a flood of dark clouds blocking out the sun.
"This is bad," Was all Emma could say. Dulse and Zossie rushed over.
"Alola's light has been stolen by Necrozma…" He revealed. In spite of his normal vocal tone still shining through, everyone could hear the fear in his voice. "It is only a matter of time before all of Alola is wrapped in such darkness."
"And I really loved Alola's light…" Zossie said sadly. "It was so warm…"
"But what do we do now?" Lillie asked. "It seemed to me like that beast...like Necrozma was also suffering somehow…It seemed to hurt, to be without its light." Lusamine appeared to be in thought.
"You worry even for Necrozma? You are too kind, Lillie. Far too kind." She noted. "That is why you took Cosmog as well, isn't it? You foolish, sweet child…" Lusamine then turned to her the Ultra Recon Squad. "We will need your help. We need to be able to travel between worlds using the Legendary Pokémon's power, just as you are able to do."
"You dare ask for our help now!?" Dulse demanded.
"Now's no time to be fighting, Dulse!" Zossie reprimanded her older partner.
"Well, there is one thing I am curious about after witnessing that battle just now…" Dulse admitted as he turned to Emma and Kitty. "Necrozma seemed quite distracted by those bracelets you wear...those Z-Power rings, or didn't you think so?"
"You mean...it wants Z-Crystals!?" Guzma exclaimed in shock.
"It's true that Emma and Kitty have an awfully large number of Z-Crystals after coming so far in their island challenges…"
"Yeah, that's true…" Guzma chimed in to back Lillie up. "Even more than the dumb captains and kahunas and all, who just focus on one type!"
"I see...so it is the Z-Crystals?" Dulse clarified. Emma nodded. "And you...you were truly able to summon Solgaleo?"
"Yep!" Kitty revealed.
"Such able trainers…" Dulse marveled. "Trainers like you might be able to ride upon our Lunala to reach the world where Necrozma can be found. Yes, just as you people ride upon your Pokémon here in Alola."
"We call it the Ultra Warp Ride! If you want to go after Necrozma, you'll need to reach the white warp hole and go through it! Any other warp hole will send you to a different world altogether." Zossie revealed.
"Perhaps you will be able to save Necrozma…" Dulse realized.
"So we're doing this?" Emma asked as she sighed. "Okay, I'm in."
"Not without me you're not!" Kitty replied as she slung her arm around Emma's shoulder. "I'm going with you!"
"Then I think we're ready," Emma said to Dulse.
"Very well." He then helped both girls into the suits that the Ultra Recon Squad wore.
"Lunala! Help us out!" Zossie called out. Everyone watched in awe as the other Legend appeared before the group. It easily opened up another Ultra Wormhole.
"Emma, Kitty," The sisters turned to Lillie. "Good luck."
"Hey, we'll be back before you even know it!" Emma promised. Lunala then flew towards them, letting Emma and Kitty hop on, before flying into the Ultra Wormhole.
"Whoa…" Kitty trailed off as she looked around. The Ultra Wormhole was a strange combination of space and psychedelic colors.
"Kitty, whatever you do, do not let go of Lunala!" Emma ordered as she steered Lunala as best she could. Being on top, she could easily see all of the other colored warp holes and as much as she wanted to explore them, she knew it was a bad idea at the moment. Even then, she also had strange eclectic orbs to watch out for and needed to keep Lunala's speed up via the yellow rings. Finally, she managed to find a white warp hole and flew inside.
"What is this place?" Kitty exclaimed as she and Emma hopped off Lunala. They could only guess they were in a strange city of some kind with darkness emitting from the top of a large tower. In front of them were two other people in Ultra Recon Squad uniforms.
"I don't know, but it looks like something out of that video game series you like with the people who swing keys around," Emma noted. Kitty just blew a raspberry at her older sister. The two people turned around.
"Welcome, resident of Alola," The woman greeted them. "I am Soliera. I am a member of the Ultra Recon Squad. Necrozma returned from Alola. You will find it up ahead. It seems to be resting atop the tower. Our people have all fled indoors to safety. They fear it will fly into another rage, as it did when that woman Lusamine appeared.
"So this is what the humans of Alola look like?" The man, who the girls assumed was the leader of the Ultra Recon Squad, questioned. "I would quite like to investigate you further. Hmm, yes. I am Phyco! I am the captain of the Ultra Recon Squad. Now that it has found a source of light, Necrozman will regain its true power. But it cannot control its own light in the broken form it was left in after it lost a part of itself. This power will only bring Necrozma more pain. We used the power of our technology to try to quiet Necrozma...just as we used our technology to provide this dark world of ours with some light. Necrozma...and us ourselves….we have both suffered so many long years in this darkness, living a life we did not wish for…"
"Please. Help us stop Necrozma," Soliera all but begged. "You will find it ahead of this place...atop the Megalo Tower."
"We will stop Necrozma," Emma promised. "For the sake of both our worlds...and Necrozma's as well." Soliera merely nodded at her. Emma nodded back as she and Kitty walked into the tower. They were confronted by an elevator. Emma sighed and turned to her sister. "Kit, if you don't want to do this, I won't be mad if you wait outside."
"Are you kidding!?" Kitty asked. "Emma, you saw that thing! No matter how scared of it I am, I'm not letting you face it alone!" She then took hold of her sister's hand. "We're sisters, Em. We do this together, or not at all."
Emma smiled. "Thanks Kitty. I'm looking forward to finally bringing this mess to an end."
"You and me both," Kitty replied. Soliera and Phyco walked over to them.
"So you both will truly go?" Soliera asked.
"It's like I said. It's the fate of two worlds on the line. We don't have a choice," Emma replied.
"Our Ultra Megalopolis was once a world filled with light…" Phyco reminisced fondly. "Necrozma was called the Blinding One, and it gave us all the energy we needed. "And in fact, we were not the only ones who basked in its light. It traveled even to the distant world of Alola by passing through the Ultra Wormholes."
Soliera looked away. "But...our ancestors grew too greedy, and they caused Necrozma to lose a part of its body. And this in turn made Necrozma run wild...Help it if you can. We beg you…"
"We will, we promise," Kitty promised them. Hand and hand, the girls entered the elevator, slowly growing more and more nervous as they moved the elevator, there were stairs. They had no idea what was waiting for them at the top. But they both found the courage to keep going knowing that the other sister was going to be with them every step of the way. At the top, Necrozma was resting and drawing any light it could into itself. There was a large explosion of light and when it died down, there was a giant light dragon staring the girls down. Necrozma almost seemed to be studying them. "Em, what do we do?"
"We have to battle it," Emma realized. Kitty nodded. Their Z-Rings were not fully recharged yet, but they had to fight
"Lie...Lie...LIIIGHT!" Necrozma roared. Both girls tossed their starters out.
"Incineroar, Darkest Lariat!" Emma ordered. She was going to guess that this new form of Necrozma was a psychic/dragon type.
"Primarina, Sparkling Aria!" Kitty ordered. Both attacks landed, but the giant dragon barely flinched. It launched a Power Gem at both starters. Primarina dodged, but Incineroar didn't and was quickly knocked out.
"Incineroar!" Emma exclaimed as she returned her starter to his Pokéball. "Lycanroc! Go!"
"Primarina, Moonblast!" Kitty ordered.
"Lycanroc! Crunch!" Emma ordered. Again, the attacks landed. Necrozma aimed a Smart Strike at Primarina, knocking it out.
"Mimikyu! You gotta finish this!" Kitty practically begged as she tossed her Mimikyu out. "Now, Shadow Claw!"
"Bite!" Emma ordered. More attacks, and this time, Necrozma launched a Prismatic Laser, knocking out both Lycanroc and Mimikyu. This time, Emma and Kitty picked Golisopod and Bewear. They continued to fight and Necrozma continued to knock out Pokémon. Soon, Emma was down to just Mudsdale and Kitty was getting ready to send out Tsareena. "Kitty, wait!"
"Um, why?" Kitty had to ask.
"Because I'm about to finish this!" Emma promised. "Mudsdale, EARTHQUAKE!"
"DALE!" Mudsdale cried as the attack launched. The attack didn't finish Necrozma, but Kitty's Z-Ring was fully recharged.
"Tsareena, unleash your power with your Z-Move: BLOOM DOOM!" Kitty called out. The Z-Move finally did the trick. Slowly, Ultra Necrozma collapsed. It stopped glowing and seemingly melted away, revealing Nebby, perfectly fine. "So...it's over?"
"Yeah...yeah it is," Emma said as she watched the light slowly spread out. She smiled and looked at Nebby, who faded away. "Let's head back down and head home."
"It will likely take some time, but eventually we may also be awash in light again. Like you all," Soliera said, her voice of hope. "My thanks to the people of Alola. My thanks to the light of the Z-Crystals."
Phyco nodded in agreement. "Necrozma took on that brillant form once again and became Ultra Necrozma, thanks to you all. But now...Necrozma has lost its light once more and appears to have fled to Alola. And your Solgaleo, weakened as it was, has also returned to your world. I am grateful for all you have done, humans, from the world of Alola." The Poipole with them suddenly started making noises and moving around. "Now what is Poipole creating a fuss for?"
"Captain Phyco...I believe that Poipole is showing an interesting in this person in Alola," Soliera explained. "It seems like it wants to stay together with them."
"How fascinating," Phyco noted. "Does it perhaps seek to become stronger? Or is there some other reason for its interest?"
"According to what we have learned through our investigation, I believe that in your world, giving a Pokémon to another can be a way of demonstrating your feelings for them…" Soliera noted. "And besides, Poipole seems to want to go. Take it with you, if you have no objection."
"We'd be happy too!" Kitty said happily. Sure, neither of them could use Poipole due to the six Pokémon law, but they knew that their father would love to meet it.
"If you wish to return to the world of Alola, you may ride upon our Lunala. Though...I suppose you could also ride upon our Solgaleo." Phyco said. Emma and Kitty smiled at each other.
"You're back!" Lillie cheered when she saw Emma and Kitty ride out of the Ultra Wormhole, Emma on Lunala and Kitty on Solgaleo.
"Impressive, human of Alola," Dulse admitted.
"Thank you so much!" Zossie cheered happily.
"While you were battling Necrozma in our Ultra Wormhole, we were able to make some discoveries about the auras here in Alola," Dulse revealed.
"The auras of Alola came from Necrozma! They're the remnants of the light it emitted long ago!" Zossie exclaimed.
"These...auras...must have been particularly strong at the trial locations. And the Z-Power for the Z-Moves...it is also similar to the auras of the Totem Pokémon. Both came to Alola as Necrozma's light! You are such a powerful trainer...maybe you can return the light to Necrozma, without having it run wild. As a sign of thanks, we'll continue to share our Lunala and Solgaleo with you. Use the Ultra Warp Ride to explore many new and different worlds! No doubt you will find amazing Pokémon." Dulse told the girls. "I think we will stay in Alola for a while. It is practically overflowing with Z-Power. It would be good for us to really experience life here. Maybe even do our own island challenge."
"Ooh, ooh! I want to become friends with Diglett!" Zossie declared. With that, she and Dulse headed off.
"Lillie…" Lusamine trailed off. She didn't know how to say this. "It seems you were right. Right to feel hurt by the suffering of Pokémon. Right to take Cosmog away…"
Lillie shook her head. "No, I just...The ones who really did everything were Emma and Kitty, not me."
Lusamine walked over to the sisters. "Here...you should take these Beast Balls. Put out your hand." Emma and Kitty did as they were told and Lusamine handed them some strange looking Pokéballs, three for each girl. "Those are special Pokéballs that we developed with the Ultra Recon Squad's help to capture Ultra Beasts. I know I can trust leaving them in the hands of trainers like you."
Emma gave a small smile. Maybe Lusamine wasn't so bad after all. "Thank you."
Lusamine then began to walk away. "With its light stolen from it, Cosmog is...no, Solgaleo is weak. We will take it back to Paradise to care for it. Lillie, you will help also." Lillie's smile when she realized her mother wanted her help could have lit up all of Ultra Megalopolis.
"Of course I will!" She promised. Behind them, Guzma looked away.
"Maybe when you bring out the best in others, it helps you find the best in yourself too, huh?" He grumbled to himself before walking off.
"Um...Emma, Kitty?" Lillie began. "I know I couldn't do anything to really help, but I was always on your side. You and your Pokémon's side. I got the chance to finally talk with my mother...about a lot of things, really. And I think I understand a little better now. Emma. Kitty. You saved Necrozma and the people of that world...and all of us, too. You gave us all the chance to smile again. I'm going to go back to Paradise for a bit to help Nebby recover, but...do your best on your Island Challenge!" With that, Lillie left to join her mother and Guzma."
"C'mon, Kit." Emma said with a fond grin. Her little sister really was growing up. "We need to go tell mom and dad what happened."
Kitty smiled back. "Right behind you, Em!"
HOLY CRAP! This was fun to write! I knew I wanted Ultra Necrozma to be another tag team fight when I first came up with this idea so I really hope it went well. Next time will be a bit of a filler chapter and then we get back to the exciting stuff. See you then.
