Gamelover41592: Indeed they are
Matt (Guest): I think they'll have other people to worry about when they all get back home.
This chapter is either going to be really long or really short. This should be fun. Let's go!
"Wait, where's the lift!?" Kitty exclaimed. Once they arrived in Tapu Village, the girls headed straight for the lift up to Mount Lanakila, only to discover that the lift was missing.
"Kitty, relax. Someone else probably used it," Emma assured her sister. Sure enough, the lift came down and Gladion was riding it.
"I've been waiting for you," He said. "To thank you. For what you did for Lillie. For our mother. I appreciate it. Maybe more than you know. And the only thing I can offer you in thanks is a great battle. So I'm going to show my full power...my real full power this time! With the Z-Power Ring that the old man gave me!"
"I think it's my turn to battle you!" Kitty declared. Emma just smiled and let her. She knew Gladion wasn't dangerous, so she had nothing to worry about. "Primarina, let's go!"
"Crobat, go," Gladion said as he sent out his own Pokémon. "Acrobatics." It nailed Primarina, but didn't do much of anything.
"Primarina, Psychic!" Kitty ordered. Primarina landed the attack and it knocked Crobat out almost on contact.
Gladion hmphed as he grabbed another Pokéball. "Lucario, let's go." Kitty smirked.
"Psychic again!" Kitty ordered. Primarina launched the attack.
And did nothing.
"Huh!?" Kitty exclaimed. Lucario was a fighting type! How did Psychic do nothing?
"Lucario, Grass Knot," Gladion said smugly. Primarina took heavy damage, forcing Kitty to retract her. But she was pretty sure she was catching on to Gladion's trick.
"Bewear, let's do this!" Kitty ordered as she sent out her Pokémon. "Now, Hammer Arm!" Much to her joy, her hunch was right and what she thought was a Lucario was really a Zoroark. The Zoroark was still standing, but had taken quite a bit of damage.
"Not bad," Gladion admitted. "Zoroark, Hyper Voice." The attack landed, but didn't do much to Bewear.
"Bewear! Hammer Arm again!" Kitty ordered. This time, Zoroark fell, causing Gladion to return Zoroark to his Pokéball.
"Lucario, for real," Gladion said as he sent out his true Lucario. "Metal Claw." Bewear took heavy damage, forcing Kitty to return him to his Pokéball.
"Mimikyu, let's do this!" Kitty ordered. "Now, Psychic...please let this work!" Thankfully, this time it was a real Lucario, meaning that it dealt heavy damage, although Lucario remained standing.
"Lucario, Metal Claw," Gladion said. Lucario did as it was told and Mimikyu took heavy damage.
"Mimikyu, Psychic again!" Kitty ordered. Mimikyu was able to knock Lucario out this time.
Gladion smirked. He had a feeling Emma was going to like this. "Silvally, finish this off." Sure enough, Emma's eyes went wide as what she could only guess was Type: Null's evolution.
"Okay then…" Kitty said as she returned Mimikyu to their Pokéball. She had no idea what type Silvally was and Primarina was at low health. Finally, she decided to take a gamble. "Tsareena! Let's do this!" The Grass-type jumped out of her Pokéball with a cry. "Let's try this! Acrobatics!" The attack did a decent about of damage, but not enough to knock Sivally out.
"X-Scissor," Gladion said. The attack dealt heavy damage, but Tsareena was still standing and Kitty decided she needed to take desperate measures.
"Tsareena, unleash your power with your Z-Move: SAVAGE SPIN-OUT!" Kitty roared.
"REENA!" Tsareena cried as she launched the Z-Move. Silvally fell and Kitty had to take a few deep breaths. She and Emma both looked at Gladion.
And found him smiling.
Gladion was honest to God smiling.
"You've got good Pokémon," Gladion complimented. "I know what kind of trainers you and your sister are now. And what kind of journeys you've been through." He then looked away. "Last time I saw Lillie, she was heading up Mahalo Trail...it seemed like she had something on her mind. She's...she's gentle enough to be able to feel how much pain Pokémon go through. I guess that's a kind of strength, too." He then turned back to Emma and Kitty. "Here. Take this. She wanted me to give this to you." He then handed the girls some healing items.
"Thank you," Kitty thanked him as she put her gifts away.
"You know, I tried battling Hau, too...he's really changed," Gladion revealed. "I'm not surprised anymore that he managed to beat even Kahuna Hala. Hmph...if you two are going to get even stronger, then I guess I can't let down my guard yet. I know we aren't friends. But we aren't enemies anymore either. Keep winning. Maybe I'll see you again if you do."
"We look forward to it," Emma said as she and Gladion shared a hand shake, before the latter walked off. She then turned to Kitty. "You brought your jacket and stuff?"
"Yes, mom," Kitty jokingly mocked as she pulled out said objects as she put on her jacket. Mount Lanakila was easily the coldest spot on Alola so you had to wear at least a sweater and pants if you didn't want frozen body parts. Once both girls were ready, they jumped on the lift and headed towards what was going to be their hardest challenge yet.
"No way…" Emma's breathless words were the only words spoken. Both girls had made decent progress up the mountain and were expecting the rest of their journey to be the same: battles and joking around.
But then they found a crater.
And inside was Necrozma.
It was back in it's weakened form. It didn't even seem to notice the girls. It seemed so helpless….
"Emma...what do we do?" Kitty asked her sister. Emma looked back at Necrozma. She began to think about what the Ultra Recon Squad had told her. It wasn't its fault it became a monster. It was then Emma made up her mind. She slowly walked over to Necrozma. It weakly looked up at her.
"Hey," Emma said, trying to sound as nice and soft as she could. "I know you probably don't want to see either of us. But I really want to help you. I don't know how, but I want to find a way to heal you…" She slowly moved her Z-Ring towards Necrozma.
"Linoooo…." Necrozma's only reaction seemed to hint that it was pleased. Emma decided to test something else. She pulled out a Great Ball, deciding that Necrozma deserved a special Pokéball. Necrozma didn't fight, allowing himself to be sucked inside. Emma then noticed a Z-Crystal on the ground. She grabbed it and placed it in her bag.
"Splendid!" Emma and Kitty turned around to see Colress walking towards him. "It's been a while, girls. You must be formidable trainers indeed if you are able to get Necrozma as one of your allies. Good! And this is from me! The Ultra Recon Squad asked me to develop a device that would be able to control Necrozma! But I improved it to my own liking! And now it is a device that makes it possible to draw out even more power from Necrozma! Yes, in short, it makes it possible for Necrozma to fuse with the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo! This is the Colress Machine No. 1198, officially dubbed the N-Solarizer! I think you'll be able to make this work, Emma," Colress then handed Emma the device, whose hands were no longer shaking from just the cold. "In addition, this is the Colress Machine No. 1199, officially dubbed the N-Lunarizer!" He handed this one over to Emma as well. It makes it possible for Necrozma to fuse with the Legendary Pokémon, Lunala! Ah yes. I have heard in fact that you first met Solgaleo-no, it's pre-evolved Cosmog-upon Mahalo Trail. I believe that trainers like you will be able to use both Alola's legendary Pokémon and the fearsome power of Necrozma properly. I happen to know quite a bit about Pokémon fusion myself...but that's a different tale. Good luck in your battles!" With that, Colress walked off. Emma looked down at her still trembling hands. The two devices and Necrozma's Pokéball.
"Emma?" Kitty asked. "Are you okay?"
"...Yeah," Emma said as she put the three objects away. She already decided what she was doing once she reached the top of the mountain.
"Well...we made it," Emma said with a smile. They had arrived at the top of the mountain. Kitty took in the sights and took several pictures. Emma went into the Poké Center. Yet when Kitty went in, Emma was nowhere to be found. Assuming she hadn't gone far, Kitty shrugged, healed her Pokémon and headed towards the new building on the top of the money.
Where Emma was standing.
She had her back to her sibling, staring up at the building. Finally, she spoke. "I take it you're going to challenge the league?"
"Of course I am!" Kitty replied. "Aren't...aren't you?"
"Wasn't planning on it," Emma admitted. She turned around to face her sister, smiling. "You know that I want to be a professor. And if I become Alola's first champion, then I can't really split my time between the two. Besides, I doubt everyone who does our Island Challenge from now on are all going to be ready to challenge the league."
Kitty smiled at Emma. "I guess you're right. So what are you doing here?"
Emma's smile turned into a stern look. "You remember how we started our journey, right?"
"Of course!" Kitty replied as her own face turned unsure. "We battled!"
"I want to finish my journey in the same way," Emma said as she pulled out her first Pokéball. "And for you to prove to me you are ready for this. Battle me!"
Kitty's unsure expression turned into one of excitement. "Let's do this!" With that, both girls sent their first Pokémon, Emma's Vikavolt and Kitty's Tsareena.
"Vikavolt, Bug Bite!" Emma called out first. It dealt heavy damage, but Tsareena remained standing.
"Tsareena, High Jump Kick!" Kitty ordered almost as soon as she realized that her Pokémon was still standing. Much to Kitty's relief, the attack landed, knocking Vikavolt out.
"Lurantis, handle this," Emma said. A quick X-Scissor later and Tsareena fell.
"Ribombee, let's go!" Kitty cheered. "Pollen Puff!" It did quite a bit of damage and Kitty was sure that one more attack would deal with Lurantis. But Emma was ready for this.
"Poison Jab," She said, almost sounding smug.
"Dodge!" Kitty exclaimed a second too late, as Ribombee was knocked out. "I'm so sorry! But I've gotta keep going. Bewear! Finish this!"
"WEAR!" Bewear roared as he came out of his Pokéball.
"Aerial Ace!" Kitty ordered. She knew it was overkill, as Lurantis was on its last legs, but she felt like showing Emma up.
"Mudsdale, let's go," Emma said. Once Mudsdale was out, she wasted no time in sending it on the attack. "Earthquake!" Kitty knew there was no dodging that move, so she just let it deal damage.
"Bewear, use Hammer Arm!" Kitty called out. She knew that it would be better to switch to Primarina, but she wanted to save her partner as her last resort. She dealt damage, but it was not enough to knock Mudsdale out.
"Bulldoze/Strength!" Both girls ordered at the same time. The end result was two unconscious Pokémon.
"Well...didn't know that could happen," Emma sheepishly admitted as she turned Mudsdale to it's Pokéball. Both girls sent out their next Pokémon, their respective Lycanrocs.
"Rock Tomb!" Emma ordered first. Her Lycanroc fired off the attack, dealing a decent amount of damage.
"Brick Break," Kitty retailted. Her Lycanroc ended up knocking out Emma's. "See Em! I can use type advantages like you!"
Emma just smiled. "Not bad...but I think I've got a bigger trump card. Golisopod, go!" The Bug/Water type came out with a growl. "Now, First Impression."
"Touché," Kitty grumbled as she watched her own Lycanroc fall. "Mimikyu, finish this guy!" Once Mimikyu was out, she readied her next move. "Shadow Claw!" The attack did a decent amount of damage, but failed to knock out Golisopod.
"Liquidation," Emma said. Golisopod attacked, but only succeeded in damaging Mimikyu's disguise.
"Thunder!" Kitty called out. She knew that Mimikyu weren't that good with special moves, but she knew that Thunder was powerful enough that it would matter. And sure enough, she was right.
"Incineroar, let's end this," Emma declared as she sent her first ever Pokémon out. "Unleash your power with your Z-Move: MALICIOUS MOONSAULT!"
"INCINEROAR!" The starter roared as it slammed onto Mimikyu.
"Isn't this fitting?" Kitty began as she turned Mimikyu to its Pokéball. "It comes down to the first ever Pokémon we battled with. Only this time…" She spent Primarina out with a grin. "I'm winning! Primarina! Unleash your power with your Z-move: OCEANIC OPERETTA!" Both girls watched as Incineroar did its best to withstand the torrent of water, only to fall. Kitty watched her sister for her reaction, waiting to see how she took her loss.
She smiled.
And began to cry.
"Kitty...that was amazing," Emma said with a proud smile as she brushed her tears away. "You are, without a doubt, the greatest trainer I have ever seen. I can't speak for everyone else but...I think Alola is lucky that you are going to be it's first ever champion."
"Emma…" Kitty was crying as well as she barreled into her sister to hug her. "I love you so much!"
Emma laughed as she hugged her sister. "I love you too Kit!"
Once she calmed down and healed her Pokémon, Kitty walked back to the Pokémon League and looked up at it. She knew this was going to be the greatest challenge of her life. But she couldn't have done it without her special team.
"Prim!"
Kitty jumped back in shock as Primarina jumped out of its Pokéball. She smiled and nodded. Primarina did the same. They were going to win this as a team.
The entire reason I wanted to have that battle between Emma and Kitty at the beginning of the story (along with Emma winning in spite of being at a type disadvantage) was to show how strong Kitty had become in the end. But I know what you are thinking. Why Kitty over Emma, who I said I preferred? Well, like Emma herself says, she wouldn't make a good champion. But Kitty's strength, determination and playful, kind nature, just made her the better fit. Don't worry though. Emma is not leaving this story yet. But next time...I think you already know. See you all then.
