Writer Note:

I do not own Naruto

So, a like/follow of this story from a long time ago made me realize that people are reading my Naruto AU ramblings. After re-reading this story I realize there are a lot of thing I want to change. I am going to trying re-writing this and keep the overall same concept of the abilities I have for Naruto.

Naruto: The Last of the Fury

Premise: What if the Uzumaki clan were wiped out for more than just their sealing abilities. What if their heritage hid more than what the world knows or remembers. Naruto is about to awaken a power that hasn't been seen or understood in an era. AU. Naruto x TBD.

Writer's Note: This story is an AU that is not about a God-like Naruto; nor a super-secret over-powered bloodline. It is about fusing aspect of one of favorite Sci-Fi characters into another universe I love.

Intro:

*Boom!*

He dove into a ditch to escape a nearby explosive tag.

~Rumbling~

The rocks jarred loose by the explosion broke away from the cliff-face behind him rolled at him at high speeds. He couldn't risk physically moving from his place as it would open him for an attack by his assailant. However, he couldn't stay put since at best the rocks would trap him in the ditch to be easy prey or at worst the rocks would crush him where he lay.

He waited; timing his escape at just the right moment. The first of the large rocks to reach him landed with a thud knocking up dust and he flared his chakra slightly to replace himself with a nearby log.

Now watching from cover in the nearby tree-line, he took a second to catch his breath and plan his next move.

*THUCK*

*LOW SIZZLE*

Recognizing unmistakable sound, he made a quick retreat from his spot as another explosive tag detonated destroying the tree he was using as cover.

'Damn! They must be a sensor; I barely used any chakra for that replacement.' He thought in surprised frustration as he made his tactical retreat further into the thicker trees.

The denser woods allotted for more places to hide, plan, and ambush. Taking cover in a foxhole hidden among some gnarled oak roots he waited for his assailant to come find him. 'Ok this person likes to keep their distance using kunai and explosives. So I need to find a way to get close and end this.'

Outside the foxhole, the sunlight was fading from the gaps in the thick canopy above, and the sound of rustled branches and snapping twigs had lessened indicating the assailant was now being more cautious in their search while in the dark. He smirked in the darkness, removing the goggles from his eyes reveal luminescent blue eyes, and using a trick he learned to prank as a child; he threw his voice out into the open without chakra.

"You're not afraid of the dark, are you?"

The rustling movements of his pursuer came to a halt. Moving slowly and silently, he shifted himself out of his hiding place while remaining in the shadow. The world rendered in an ethereal blue and white through his eyes. He spied several leaves falling from the canopy above indicated where the attacker had come to a halt after he spoke. Silently he made his approached toward what was now his prey.

He spied the assailant for the most part out in the open, believing the darkness of the woods would mask her presence. Yes a woman, he could see her form for the first time. He had to admit that if under different circumstances he would want to try his luck with her. Gathering pebbles in his hands, he threw them out into the trees to distract her as he climbed her tree.

The assassin sat in her spot frazzled. 'Damn it, I shouldn't have followed him in here. The leaf trash has the advantage in the woods. Fortunately, it's pitch black in here which puts us at the same disadvantage.' A sound to her left caught her attention, she readied an explosive kunai, waiting. Another sound followed by another, they were moving in a trackable vector. Anticipating her prey's movements, she launched her kunai into the darkness with a smirk.

The explosion lit up the forest, unaware that its light revealed that she was no longer alone on the branch.

He was behind her and judging by the frantic twitches in her posture his attacker was frantically search the explosion site for any sign of him. Wanting to end this he spoke one again, not bothering to mask his location.

"You made three mistakes." He spoke casually. The assailant whipped around completely caught off guard.

Smiling to himself at her surprise and fear, "Firstly, you took the job."

He took a step towards her sticking to the branch with chakra, "Secondly, you came alone, fucking insulting."

Raw blue chakra flared and snapped off his left hand releasing a concussive pulse that washed over the entire area. As it hit the female assailant, she dropped to her knees her system succumbing to a temporary paralysis.

He stepped in close leaning down eye to shining eye. "And your worst mistake…you trusted the dark"

He pulled out a wicked curved trench knife and slashed it across her throat. Thanks to the application of wind chakra to the blade the shallow slash bisected the rest of her neck decapitating her.

He watched the body and head fall into a crumpled heap on the forest floor and then let out a long-held sigh of relief.

"Man, I really need a hot bowl of ramen after that." He spoke out loud to no one.

Jumping down he sealed the remains. While stashing the scroll, he flipped the switch to his communicator and then adjusted a dial to boost the signal for longer range.

"This is Fox. Broadcasting on open frequency, code Alpha November Bravo Uniform, protocol Charlie India. Is anyone out there?" He questioned.

"[static]..Kami Naruto, you troublesome bastard, stop shouting over the radio. Flip to channel roger roger tango lima and enable Ino-Shika-Kitsune encryption protocol." Drawled the lazy voice of Shikamaru Nara.

Naruto smirked. Their code wasn't perfect or unbreakable, but it made people over think if they were listening in. All Shikamaru said was turn the frequency dial twice to the right then once to the left and enable standard encryption.

"Checking in, over" Naruto spoke into his mic.

"Reading you, Ino and I were able to complete the mission. Thanks for distracting the assassin. Were you able to find out anything from them?" Shikamaru asked.

Naruto sweatdropped. "Umm no. I didn't so much distract the assassin as be the assassin's assassin. Not much talking or so you can say…hehehe"

"…you did that 'afraid of the dark' thing again didn't you?" Shikamaru asked in exasperated drawl.

The sweat drop grew larger. "Well yeah…the bitch was relentless, I couldn't get the upper hand until it was dark and when it is pitch black how can I resist."

"Troublesome, just get back at the client's home. So we can deliver mission completion to them." Shikamaru muttered.

"Alright see you and Ino there." Naruto hopped up into the canopy backtracking to where he left his team. "Oh and I'm fine by the way; thanks for asking."

"Never crossed our minds you wouldn't be. See you in a bit." Shikamaru replied, mild amusement in his voice.

Naruto switch off his communicator and turned his travel up a notch. 'Kami sometimes I wonder how the hell I got stuck on this team.' And in a leafy gust of wind, Naruto was gone. 'Back to the village… to all the brightness, and everything I hate'.
