Skylar Marvell stared at the night sky, a sense of calm washing over her. She sighed, taking in the scenery around the her. Skylar closed her eyes, not wanting the peace and quiet to end.

"Skylar!" her mom called from inside the house. "It's bedtime!"

Skylar sighed once again, as she stood up and went inside. She saw her mom smiling at her. "Did you brush your teeth?" Wendy asked.

Skylar nodded. "Yes, Mom."

"Shower?"

"Uh-huh."

"Okay. Off to bed with you, Sky."

Skylar smiled up at her mom. "Okay, good night."

"Night."

Skylar walked to her bedroom and sat on her bed. She huffed, as she soon realized she couldn't sleep.

What Skylar really wants to do is practice her sky slaying abilities. But that won't go unnoticed.

Skylar is a sky dragon Slayer, directly passed down from her mom. Skylar was lucky to be blessed with dragon slaying magic, because she would have probably died without it. She was a frail and sick girl when she was younger, but somehow, dragon slaying magic helps that...? Skylar isn't exactly sure.

Whatever. Skylar layed down on her comfortable bed. Pretty soon, she drifted off into unconsciousnous.

When she woke up, the sun from her window was directly in her eyes. She squinted, as she closed her blinds. Skylar yawned, and then she started getting dressed. After she was in comfortable enough clothing, she went into the kitchen where her mom prepared pancakes and eggs and... was that bacon? Heck yeah!

"Thank, Mom!" Skylar said as she started chowing down on her breakfast.

"You're welcome, Skylar," her mom said with a smile. "Now hurry up, dear, you have school."

Skylar nodded, though she wasn't particularly fond of school.

Once she was done with breakfast, Skylar's mom drove her to hell - I mean school. Nah, I meant hell. Getting there by car was an absolute pain, but she only suffered for a few minutes. Skylar internally groaned when they arrived. Skylar got out of the car, and Wendy drove away.

Just great.

Skylar sucked in her breath and went inside the building. Unluckily for her, she was spotted by Lissa - the meanest girl in the entire grade and she absolutely hates Skylar!

"Well, well," Lissa said. "If it isn't the child of the slut."

The only reason Lissa calls Skylar's mom a slut is because Wendy had her daughter when she was only seventeen and Skylar's dad isn't in the picture. So now while Skylar is ten, Wendy is only twenty-seven

"Don't call my mom that," Skylar said, clenching her fists.

"Or else what?" Lissa said in a mocking sort of way.

Skylar wasn't sure. She's a good student who wouldn't do anything to anybody. She took a deep breath, and stared at a smirking Lissa. Skylar will not take the bait Lissa is obviously dishing out.

Skylar attempted to walk away, but Lissa grabbed her arm. "Don't walk away from me, loser! Who do you think you are?"

"Skylar Marvell," she said. Wrong move. Lissa glared at her with as much hatred she could muster - which was a whole lot. Lissa punched Skylar, causing her to crumple to the ground with a bloody nose.

"You're worthless!" Lissa screeched. "Pathetic! A mistake! You're only here because your deadbeat daddy's condom was a failure - just like you are! No one wants you here. Least of all your mom!"

Skylar could feel tears threaten to spill out of her eyes, but she didn't want to give Lissa the satisfaction of having had making her cry. But Skylar couldn't hold back the tears. Lissa smirked down at her. "Aw, the little baby's crying?" she mocked, all too pleased with herself.

Skylar hates her life. No one likes her. No one at school. Maybe her mom secretly blames her for ruining her life. Wendy seems to only have Skylar around, maybe her parents disowned her or something. Maybe it'd be best if she disappears.

Lissa wasn't the one to give Skylar these thoughts - but she did enforce them. Though Skylar always thought about it. What if she really did ruin her mom's life? What if her mom doesn't love her? It makes sense, doesn't it?

"You should leave," Lissa said. "Leave your mom. Just imagine how happy she'll be when you're not around."

Is that true? Skylar looked at Lissa, and then sniffed. "I--" She stopped. What is she suppose to say to that? But Lissa didn't expect an answer.

Skylar watched as Lissa walked away, and Skylar's breathing hitched, trying to stop herself crying. But the tears just kept falling. She rubbed her eyes, and then she attempted to go through the school day.

--

As soon as Skylar got into her mother's car, Wendy immediately knew something was wrong. She looked at her daughter and asked, "Are you okay?"

Skylar nodded, not quite looking her mom in the eyes.

"Skylar, don't you lie to me."

"I'm not. Promise."

Wendy sighed. "Okay. But remember, I'm always here to talk."

"Mom, I have magic."

"Yes, we both do."

"Well... No one else does," Skylar said. "Not around here, anyways..." A lot of things have been bugging Skylar lately, including this and the feelings of not truly having anyone who cares. But that's in her head, right? Her mom cares for her... Doesn't she?

Wendy said, "Yes, no one else has magic. Why does that matter?"

"I feel so different," Skylar confessed.

Wendy pursed her lips. "Well, I mean... other people have magic though."

"I don't know those other people! Haven't met anyone like myself and you, Mom!"

"Let's just go home, okay?"

Skylar huffed as she leaned back on her seat. Of course her mom wants to avoid the conversation. Isn't that what she always does? When Skylar brings up this kind of stuff, her mom never wants to talk about it. It's getting kind of annoying at this point.

Skylar decided to ignore everything (except for her motion sickness, of course) as they made their way home.
